Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
I personally do not have a problem with the hardware price. The value is there for what you get out of a mobile device. Compare it to other mobile devices like the aging Steam Deck, ROG ally, or the Legion Go the Switch 2 is a better value and more capable device. It's the Software side of things. I will never get behind all digital for one reason, A company can shut down the servers in say 10 years time or sometimes much less and you lose access to your game. I am not against all digital and buy plenty of digital games but the most important games to me, I like to have a physical copy and not a download code or it has to connect to a server to work. I am an older gamer and have games that are nearly 30 years olds, I have already lost digital games in the past due to servers no longer storing them so I like to have physical when possible. So my opinion have changed to a big No buy for me unless most games are on the Cartridge and a little more affordable.

Lets stick to the facts:
(United States Pricing)

*Hardware Price before any Tariffs: $449
*Software Price: $60-$80+? Also there have been images leaked showing launch switch 1 games like Zelda: BOTW is selling at $70 on the Switch 2.
*Physical vs Digital Key in a box: Nobody can say for certain how many games will do this. No doubt it will be much higher percentage than the Switch 1 due to Game Size increases. Bottom line is some developers are not going to pay for the Cartridge's and will just stick a code in the box.
*Joycons and accessories also got a price increase: The Joycons look the same with an added C button. Hopefully Hall Effect sticks. A whopping $90 for the Joycons and over $100 for the Dock which just a plastic housing with an added fan. IMO they are borrowing from Apples playbook with accessorize pricing
*Charging for the System Demo: This is a very bizarre choice. Sony Gave Astrobot away to show the potential of the Dualsense but Nintendo is putting a game called "WELCOME TOUR" as a paid game.
*Lack of Software Choices: If you are only a switch user there is tons of old games for you to play. If you have gamed on any other modern console, most of the game ports are old and most of us have played through them. The added feature is that games I can get for $10 on other platforms now cost $70 and run worse. I mostly play Nintendo games on the Switch platform and I personally have not seen enough software to sell me on it. Mario Kart is Cook, I'm on the fence about Donkey Kong, and Metroid Prime 4 I can play on my OG switch for cheaper. Just my take.

Maybe you have a different take and are blown away and just can't wait to get the Device in your hand.

I went to an EB Games in Sydney and at least 3-4 people that entered the store said that the System has the same price as the PS5 and how expensive it is with the games.

All those ones said that they're not getting the system on launch.

Still, the base system is sold out at EB.

I might be not buy at first, because the price will be cranked up when my country see new console, it migght cost $1500 here. But i definitely will sometime after, already told my wife, i will buy it, be it this year or next year, as long as my saving is done and the price is reasonable. PS5 was also overpriced when they are arrived in their new release back then, but bought when the price is reasonable.

I see no problem for it.

Crazy, I walked in to an EB Games in Sydney and saw a dude listening to at least 3-4 people that entered the store complaining about that the System has the same price as the PS5 and how expensive it is with the games.

Already preordered it, and it will be the first console I've ever bought day 1.

Been waiting since 2014 for a new Mario Kart and Donkey Kong, so getting both in the first 2 months is awesome, plus the first year looks remarkably strong.

Super excited for it.

Assuming you're not in the US, pre-orders haven't started here.

My opinion remains unchanged, I will wait to get the OLED redesign, it will most likely have better battery and kickstand. And the lifespan of the Joycons will be well known.

Edit-Bored is my consensus, I have no FOMO with Nintendo this go around.

I'll wait for solid title to hit the platform, maybe give it a year or two after stock stabilize where we don't have to worry about scalper price.

I'll get it just to have it but i dont think ive ever had this lack of excitement for a new console in a long time.

Pros
  • Build quality
  • Screen size
  • Magnetic joycons
  • 120hz/VRR
  • 4K60 Docked

Cons
  • Price for value
  • Battery life
  • Game price compared to console games
  • Classic games remain locked behind subscription
  • No OLED screen
  • Lackluster internal storage
  • Price of expansion storage
  • Lack of launch window titles
  • Less impressive visuals than I hoped
  • Trash gimmicks, c button/chat, mouse controls
  • Pro Controller 2 lacks any innovation

My consensus is why do we need so many threads repeatedly asking about our opinions about the switch 2?

Edit: that aside I still have mixed feelings about it. More positive though. I'll still probably get one day one alongside mario kart, elden ring and dk

Depends on what you are calling launch window because the first 6 months looks really strong in my opinion.

I think it's a great successor to the Switch 1, with good choices in terms of hardware design (modern NVIDIA featureset, LCD screen with HDR and 120 Hz and VRR).

Lineup looks okay so far. Mario Kart World looks excellent. Donkey Kong seems pretty decent but kind of a wait and see type of title. Looking forward to playing Kirby for the first time with the upgraded version and DLC. GameCube games on NSO is great. Awesome to see BOTW and TOTK looking amazing with HDR + resoution/60fps uplifts. Playing Metroid Prime 4 on the device is going to be so much better than the Switch 1.

Should be a really great console experience for me to play Nintendo games on into the future and a much better experience versus Switch 1 for TV play. Excited for its future.

Disappointed with a lot of questionable pricing/business decisions is my only major complaint. But I'm there day 1 if I can get a pre-order. Nintendo systems are ALWAYS a side console to me, which is fine. My expectations are kept in check. I hope that the lineup for later this year and beyond becomes clearer in a few months so there's something else to look forward to, seems kind of sparse after donkey kong and MP4.

Everyone has been waiting for news on this console for months if not years. What did you expect?
Yeah that came off snarkier than it should've but i mean we do have like three or four threads currently discussing switch related opinions atm

As somebody who hated the Switch I had hoped Nintendo might have been changing their ways but their presentation was a train wreck. Outside of the mouse controls and DK looking great everything else was a turn off. If the backwards compatibility was actually competent I might have considered one since I still haven't gotten to like 99% of my Switch library but as it stands I'd rather just leave my original switch plugged in.

Exorbitant game prices, more nickel-and-diming, so-so library of new games with a concerning focus on rehashing switch 1 software, no dpad, dock is still hideous, the unit is even less portable than before, and the poor backwards compatibility make it an easy pass for me.

Only natural mate. Biggest talking of the the generation so far will alway generate loads of threads and disscussion. Some people are hyped and other pissed off and everything in between.

Don't expect it to calm down anytime soon. Personally im just happy ive had it beaten into me multiple times I could get a PS5 and a portal for not much more lol.

I escpially hyped for new DK, I'm super excited for MKW but DK is the one I'm most excited about.

I love what they are going for with gameplay and destruction system.

I'm sold on Switch 2--the hardware, and the software look great. It's some of the pricing I'm not happy about, like everyone else.

Currently planning on buying the MK bundle and then just not picking up any other Switch 2 software for a bit. I'll content myself with MK and better performance on my Switch games until I can find some deals. That and Split Fiction whenever it hits.

pros: Everything
cons: Nothing

OK price I thought they would surprise lower. Might be tariff related. And might go higher even, unfortunately, as tariff man raised tariffs more than expected.

The higher game prices...well I'm just not surprised.

Switch games for me are already dropping in priority behind ps5/portal, pc/steamdeck, pcvr/psvr, and gamepass drop.

It's going to take more than Mariokart and donkey Kong to sell me. I've hardly even played the Mariokart 8 dlc.

Day 1 if I can manage to get my hands on one.

I'm excited about the new Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Bananza and replaying both Zelda's the way it was meant to be played!

I thought Metroid had a poor showing with the last 2 trailers but seeing it at the Treehouse changed my mind, looked so much better. Hopefully not too far away.

That's 3 big first party games if it releases this year within 6 months. Can't argue with that.

My biggest worry here is not the price, its trying secure pre-order.....it was pain in the ass trying to pre-order PS5 and I have worse luck when comes Pre-ordering anything Nintendo related.

I just hope Nintendo made enough unites....thats all I'm worried about.

I'll wait until a new mainline Zelda games comes out. I typically get Nintendo's consoles late in their life. Hell I didn't get into the Wii U until sometime last year (really fun console). The switch was the only exception to this, and I still didn't pick it up at launch.

I bought a switch thinking I might like it. But I didn't. It reminded my why I dislike Nintendo games and why my last Nintendo console was n64. Same kiddie games, same lack of value for my tastes. I was trying to like this new iteration but it seems like more of the same ol' Nintendon't, but now this bitch is expensive. And the game prices are crazy expensive.

The pricing is ridiculous but the bigger issue is that you know they'll release a refresh with OLED screen and bigger battery.

I was always going to buy one, but the games and hardware do look great. The console is $50 more than I expected but it's also more capable than I expected. I'm happy with the console itself. It's the game prices that I'm not happy with. $70 should be the max for Switch 2 as it is for PS5/XSX. $80 is terrible, and even more so for Switch 1 + expansion/upgrade games. Drop Mario Kart to $70 and the Switch 1 games (and PS4 ports) to $60 and it all becomes much more palatable.

I'll take things that never happened for $10 please.

Preordered! No hesitation here, it's kicking off a new Nintendo generation. Loving what I've seen so far regarding system capabilities.

Too small of a sample to make any conclusion.

There are plenty of news I don't like about it, but I was never on the fence.

I'll be there for the first party stuff as always.

Really awesome hardware

The problem is software. $90 for one game is just too much. Even worse when you imagine how low the budget is (or at least should be) to make a game like Mario Kart compared to other current gen games.
