Switch 2 won’t have achievements, Nintendo has confirmed

it's not something I care for, so no big deal for me that it isn't there.
Same, I personally never understand how anyone would find gaming achievements that doesn’t even unlock anything fun. I also don’t care for speedrunning, only time I did speed runs was during RE2 on the N64 AND ONLY because it’s required to unlock certain stuff. But I can even understand speedrunners more than just achievements since I can see some people wanted to try beating something a bit faster compared to their previous playthrough even though both anchi and speed running are useless to me.

But at the same time I don’t care if they do include them like if this thread never existed and instead this thread says Switch 2 will have platinum/trophics/medals or whatever that I wouldn’t mind either as I’ll just ignore them and view them as useless just like I always do if they don’t unlock anything in game.

So while I don’t mind or care if they’re included, I also definitely don’t mind that it won’t be included either lol.

From a development perspective adding achievements to an ecosystem has a compounding effect on the release process. For something that has been baked in (PS3/Xbox 360) since the start of that ecosystems "digital presence" carrying that functionality forward probably seems very simple/easy from an outside looking in vantage point.

Completely agree with an earlier comment in this thread as well, if they are important to the developer they will implement them into their game. This is a sign the developer wanted achievements as part of their game design and it isn't something added in the time period before submission/launch.

I can count on one hand how many times I have seen a title get chucked from TRC/TCR/Lot check review because the 'chieves were not set up/implemented properly esp. for localization support.

It's basically stats, that's the short answer. Just because it's "gaming" doesn't mean that some people don't want to look at their path they carved out.

Think about sports it's to me in the same boat, when players play their sports journey is documented with touchdowns, yards, receptions, 3 pointers, batting average etc... I mean to some stats are worthless, some sports players care and some don't. I view it the same with my gaming performance it's nice to see it documented.

I mean I gotta say tho that makes no sense to me that you can understand speed runners yet having a checklist of tasks within a game that can often challenge a person, just like the speed runner challenging himself, doesn't make sense to you.. I sorta dont get that.

Let's be real at the end of a day playing a game gets you nothing of substance, it's satisfaction and enjoyment but there's nothing tangible you have from any of it.. So its really that easy is for some it's the satisfaction of set goals and challenges that are extra tied to a game.

Of course not, lets wait until switch 4 when they introduce it like some amazing new feature like they did with party chat.🤣

On a more serious note : fuck off Nintendo!!

Not trying to be hostile, just my honest opinion that I can’t understand the achievement fans and honestly both speedrunners and achievement stuff are close enough that I don’t understand either of them being fun at all.

Like I said I’m not being hostile like I’m not going “muhahaha all games needs to remove them just so people that like them can suffer” as I said I don’t care/mind even if they include them in their game but just as I said I definitely also don’t care or mind that they’re not included again since I don’t care for them.

I hear ya not saying youre hostile just tryin to explain the reasoning behind it. It's just all preferences is all because I personally don't have any interest in speed runners not even in the slightest, but if that's what they enjoy I say go for it. Trophies aren't new and have been around a long time now so I think they've proved to be worth whole for those that like them otherwise they'd have probably faded off.

Good. They are mostly lame. If someone has a good idea for achievements, they can just make what would have triggered one unlock something. Most achievements are trash. Though I do like the funny ones.
Resident Evil and Ratchet and Clank games are usually great with their own in game achievements where you actually unlock actual stuff.

I think most indie games on Steam have that too like Infernax, Huntdown etc. I agree once in awhile there would be a funny achievement title that pops out forgot what game I was playing on Steam.

At the end of the day for the achievement that don’t unlock anything, it’s a thing that I don’t care for but don’t mind it being in either as it’s easy to ignore.

Meh, I don't really care that they include achievements, especially since it's a software level feature. You can easily add them to your own games if you really want to have them. Still, it's quite interesting that Nintendo is steadfast into not including them.
Considering we have games that seemingly imply trophies and achievements are replay value and not actual gameplay or design I'm all for it.

I’m fine with Zelda Notes and the way they do in-game achievements in many of their games. And I’m also hoping for Elden Ring Notes as well but I know it’s a long shot. But it would be fcking sick

This is from Going Commando but every game in it's series their own set of unique unlocks and different tasks. I know other games have something similar.

For every few you do, you unlock ingame stuff like new skins, even some whacky stuff like mirror mod, or other funny stuff like big head etc.

It's pretty good and fair too cause these are just cosmetic and doesn't effect you ingame wise so it's also good for the people that don't wanna do it since it doesn't make you stronger. But for those that do at least you actually get something.

Yea Most these days are tied to optional bosses and quests, or missable stuff. That's why I like it also is because so many are aspects of a game where you need guides, so alot of them are getting you around to see more areas of a game that you may otherwise miss

I like having achievements there even though I’m not that into them. Feels weird when they’re not there. It’s enough for me to get multiplats on pc or ps.

I think achievements are retarded and don't get why people care about them so much. I guess they can give some a sense of accomplishment?

having said that, people do care about them so it is odd Nintendo never capitalized on this. wondering what philosophically their reasons are.

I never understood why people get so vehemently opposed to something optional they can just ignore if it's not something they enjoy.
In this case I think it is more about “if Nintendo did not want it I do not want it, they look after me and it is time I look after them”…

Hated the gamer scroe shit since the 360 days.
I don't want them to be a part of gaming culture, I cringe whenever I hear someone talking about platinums and it affecting what they buy and play

Yes there are some games which are based around accomplishing objectives to progress, that's also what the binding of isaac and most roguelite function. But the thing is, these "achievements" can be implemented without having it as an OS level feature.

On the contrary, if you force this feature on your console, you begin to have games that have no reason to have any achievement to get some ridiculous ones: "bonk 10 times against the wall and we'll congratualte you with a useless message". I can't believe some people can get outraged by this and demanding this filler feature to be there while Nintendo has more urgent stuff to sort, like implementing good netcode in high demanding online games or not giving a freaking user guid as a paid game...

Shame.

I know that are useless and I don't hunt or care about the number but I still love achievements/trophies. Always gives me little motivations to go back and play and play differently.

It's always funny when people like to take a dump on the achievement systems, but no one's mentioning stuff like leaderboards from the arcades or competing in online rankings. At the end of the day they all don't matter and won't change the world, but they can give you some sense of an accomplishment or motivate you to stay with the game. Plus you can just hide the notifications if they're really bothering you and ignore achievements with idiotic requirements.

In my opinion no one should force Nintendo to introduce their own version, but it would be better than having only single games with built-in achievements.

Then why go through the effort of doing achievements for your Zelda notes app? Nintendo wants to do achievements, but they seem to not know why people like them. This half ass way they've done it seemed like it always seemed inevitable that they'd eventually become a thing with Nintendo, since so many of their games have built in fake achievements. Whether you like them or not though, part of the point of achievements is showing them off on your profile or something. Whenever they do it just as some background thing built into the games that only you can see, it's very pointless.

LMAO, you can blame Nintendo for a lot of thing, but blaming them for not giving you a list of task you have to do because you can't have fun otherwise on your shitty call of is not one sorry.
i think we have a different view on what trophies are.

i can have fun playing a videogame without trophies. Personally i love them because it gives an incentive to play the game after you finish it. games are getting any cheaper and to me trophies are just a way to get more of a game after finishing it.

At least they added revolutionary chat functionality. Nintendos system software/ux/online infrastructure is their biggest Achilles heel not graphics power.
