I think it's logical and rational to assume that we're probably not the only life form to inhabit the universe.

I was mainly thinking about the planet they are talking about. Even the closest earth-likes we know of are lightyears away.

K2-18B is 124 light years away which is a huge distance. Spectroscopy can show us clues for life, but we'd never be able to actually go there any time soon.

There are earth like planets that are a lot closer. Proxima Centauri b is on our door step at only 4.2 light years away. A little further out, we have Teegarden b at a little over 12 light years. There are others as well that are pretty close.

The best bet for discovering life in lifetimes will be searching the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. We're already doing this now with the Clipper Misson that is currently on it's way to Europa.
