Ok I have a thread ready to go, I guess I should post it when I get up tomorrow morning and then get in touch with a mod to close this bad boy down. Say goodbye to the thread guys. A new era starts tomorrow!

Still not sure why a monthly thread is needed. :x

A curated list of gaf's favorites of the month would be better than the annual popularity contest anyhow.

Just not sure how a monthly thread would be any different from this.

It's not supposed to be different. It is an attempt to be more welcoming and updated than a mega thread. We're hoping it brings in new members to explore iOS gaming. With so many releases and news coming so quickly it is hard to curate a megathread.

Hopefully it works, but it sucks since I prefer having just one thread for it subscribed.

OK, let me play Devil's Advocate here - where would the monthly curated lists be found? Who would make them? If they were in new threads (one per month), then who would post in them other than the OP? A thread with one post in it is next to worthless.

With the monthly threads we still get the same freewheeling conversation, we get the cool curated lists and newcomers won't be asking the same questions every week. I really can't see a better way of doing it. And it's not like you'll need to search out the new threads - a link will be posted at the end of each month to the next thread. Just go to it and sub.

And it's cool. Everyone gets a turn at being thread leader, even you if you want to. How cool is that?

That's exactly what the monthly thread will be!

Good stuff, Jedeye :)

Anybody want to give the IAP heads up with knights of P&P? Looks like you can buy gold, so it will be the old "don't need to buy it to progress test?"

The dev stated this over on TA, make of it what you will

The only in-app purchase the game will have are for game money.
We are never making items purchasable only by real life money, quote this if you will. New campaigns, room itens and everything else are bought with game money that you can farm on battles and quests.

I'm playing Hundreds (which is great), and I'm reminded of an old Windows game where you had to extend barriers to separate bouncing red and blue balls. It's not the same mechanic, but conceptually similar in that it focuses on high-tension space management with seemingly unstable elements. Also: balls. But yeah, anyway, can anyone remember what that game was called?

Hundreds is indeed super duper cool. No idea what that game you're thinking about is though!

Arc Squadron looks incredible. Definitely buying that tonight.

What's Minecraft Pocket Edition like? Never played any other flavour of the game but feel like I should try it, really.

This is how I've beaten Ithaqua, several times now and with the best ending.
Do not forget the second part has (some very cool and nasty) random effects each cabin you visit and that there are multiple endings.

Load your characters with clues before the last sign, when you discover the cave.
Select characters with high stamina so, if something goes wrong, they will survive 1 more turn and be availbe as a free 'lock the skull' spell.
There is character, I forgot his name, that is able to produce skulls out of any sign...could be helpful too.
Yeah, so I think it scales to how well you're doing. Which partly explains why all my games have been close I suppose. Absolutely wrecking the game this time. Every adventurer fully stocked and ready to destroy Ithaqua. Only a couple of Elder Signs away from getting to Ithaqua and suddenly I get hit with -15 supply, effectively wiping me out. I don't mind rotten rolls (part of the fun), but that felt cheap as hell to me. You spend the entire first half of the campaign building up your supply, and then it can all be wiped out on a whim no matter how much you have? Lame. I'll be back for more punishment though. :p

Sooo pretty much this thread with an updated OP reflecting the newest hottest stuff?

Sounds good to me. Most of this thread tends to be "what is a good tower defense game?" or "what is new and good?" So a rolling OP with some good games will be helpful to all.

As for Knights of P&P just put about 20 minutes into it. Very early days, but the IAPs level seems pretty low, most of the items I can see don't seem to cost much at all.

It also helps that the game seems pretty darn awesome.

Is this out or you do you just have access to it early?

Jezzball? Sounds like fun.

Well, it's not that bad, I assure you.
The -X supplies is the better thing you can get...I got it all the times...just be prepared and enter the cave.
One game I got the wolves packs.
They are monsters that exponentially grows over time.
Before entering the cave, I got 22 (TWENTYTWO) because I couldn't kill them fast enough.
Took ages just to end the turn when they replicate!!!
Was really tense.
I won nonetheless with just one character standing (not the best ending tough).
Was an epic game.

Yeah I've gotten those wolves too.

Are you saying losing all your supplies is something that always happens if you have a lot of supply late? Because if so I definitely won't bother stocking up early on.

Punch quest has odd cloud sync. Doesn't carry over your levels or challenges just your unlocked powers and abilities. Big dissapointment.

So I have all the unlocked powers on my phone but since my level is like 4 I basically have to do all the challenges over again. The only good thing is this means you can do the easier challenges twice and unlock powers easier.

I'm sorely tempted to get this. Any Gaf impressions?

This GAF impression is that you should try it.

It seems a few of us have played it in the last couple of hours since release and impressions seem fairly positive. How about you try it for yourself and become one of them holy tastemakers. So then when people say "I hear it's good" it will be because they heard YOU say it was good. Oh, imagine the power!!

I feel like despite today being the 31st, this game should count as the first November game to be listed in the new OP, if the first few positive reviews hold up. Agreed?

You're a good man.

I don't know any professional reviewer that reads outside opinions before committing to their own. Even when I was at smaller sites and had the luxery of missing embargos I wouldn't read IGN or GameSpot's review before writing my own. No good can come of that.

Around the office the person reviewing the game doesn't even want to hear what anyone else playing it thinks, before they're done.

I think the definition of this is where a lot of game journalists fail at.

Borderlands Legends is not a great game, but I liked it more than many reviewers, it sounds like:

It can be very fun at times. I don't read other people's reviews before doing my own and I expected ~70%. Not 50%.

Nice review. I think I'll wait for a sale on Borderlands.

Just a side point, but I don't normally read the comments section of reviews and articles. Are they always as stupid as they are in that link?

Is it just me or did the last update ramp up Punch Quest difficulty ? Totally burned my nerves this session.
In all honesty this could really be in my head as I was perfectly fine with the original game and dreaded the changes. Or it could be the so-called emphasis on speed when punching and slow downs when... Errr... Uppercuting ? ^^
I will gladly accept a psychological explanation but come on, the green bats now appears reallyyyy soon for example. And if I was a natural 120 000 before, I'm really not surprised to bite the dust in the 60-80 000.

The good side is that the game threw so many manners of shit at me that I flew up in gamecenter. Still, I badly need a peaceful game now.

Anybody else see the terrible cloud sync for punchquest. You cant really go between devices. All it does is unlock the powers on both device but does not carry over your levels or challenges.

Eli of Touch Arcade posted this in response to the score IGN gave Borderlands Legends:
That's basically a 1 out of 10 on anyone else's scale.

Fight! :) But seriously. TA making fun of another site for giving out high scores is... ironic? (Speaking of comments, don't read any of the other comments on that page:)

In any case, BL sounds like a game that falls right in the range of "average", ie a game I'll put on AppShopper and grab when it goes on sale. Though I don't buy that not directly dropping loot is an ok 'thing'. This is Borderlands! A better answer might be just don't severely limit your character to 17 slots so you don't have to worry about what you pick up or sell mid-mission... Yes, I'm looking right at you Borderlands 2!
