Canonical answer (other than "the other Ace Attorney titles"): 999.

I liked the first game, but the second game was boring as hell to me. HAven't gotten a chance to play the others yet.

Just play all the Ace Attorney games. They're amazing. I've not found anything to match them, although you could try stuff like 999, Hotel Dusk + The Last Window, and Ghost Trick.

Guys, come and join us in the AA Community Thread! It's been dead a little less populated for a month now.

On topic though, The Last Window and 999 should suit your needs as well.

I've played through all of the Ace Attorney games that's been localized. So 1-3, Apollo Justice, and the Miles Edgeworth one. I'm replaying the first three on the Wii. Nothing like pointing that Wiimote on the screen every time you present evidence. So good.

Like mclem said, get 999 then it's sequel, Virtues Last Reward, for the 3ds/vita, you wont be disappointed.

Justice for All gets a lot of hate, which some I understand, but it has one of the most 'edge of your seat' last cases ever. So tense and so awesome.

Like everyone else said, play 999, Hotel Dusk, The last Window(Sequel to Hotel Dusk), and Ghost Trick. All of them are amazing games.

Other VNish games that tend to crop up if you like Ace Attorney: Professor Layton (various brainteasers, crossover game with Phoenix Wright is probably coming stateside next year), 999/Virtue's Last Reward (horror/escape-the-room), Hotel Dusk/Last Window (heavy noir influence, point-and-click adventure), Ghost Trick (rube Goldberg-esque puzzles, made by the PW team). All have strong stories and lots of dialogue.

Trace Memory

Play this. :)
...plus this. The girl's story is OK, but the best part is the backstory of the family who lived on the island. Plus, the game had some very interesting uses for the DS' touchscreen. I replay it every year or so.

I rebought Trace Memory, I traded it in years ago. It was my first DS phat game when I got it, regretted it. I'm waiting for the mail! Can't wait to replay it.

Sure, but the VN part is the real component.

It's the fact that the story is dangled in front of you with revalation after revaltion. But you have to work for the story yourself. Even if the specifics are filled in you need a hunch of problem solving.

Another game you might try would be Time Hollow for the DS. It's not as well regarded as the already mentionend games but personally I liked it very much. I am a big friend of time travel stories, though.

Sorry for the necropost but I'm still a junior and didn't want to forget about posting. Also, a LTTP thread with another LTTP thread posted only three months prior would probs not go down well. I'm cross-examining
Vasquez
right now and this game has really surprised me. Obviously, I've heard a lot about it and had seen all the meme's and a little about the characters. I didn't really expect the game to go on for as long as it has. I see mention that the first three games are good. Is the quality not consistent in the others?

I'm thinking after I play the first game, I will jump to 999 and if I enjoy that, snag VLR for Vita. Then maybe jump back to Phoenix Wright. I don't want to wear myself out on these incredibly long, dialog driven stories.

I think my favorite character is the judge.

Scratch that, mistyped my search entry.

Anyways, jealous as could be. Wish I could experience all 3 of these games as "new" again.

I stopped playing during the case at the movie studio. The game just dragged at that point.

This is where I'm at on my PW playthrough right now. I kind of lost interest towards the end of the case, it's a shame because I was enjoying the game but the movie studio case went on for far too long.

This game surprised me. Never played a graphic novel game before. I enjoyed it a lot and really got into the characters and story. Still need to ay the sequels as well as try other graphic novel games like Hotel Dusk, 999, Broken Sword and Walking Dead. Never thought I'd like these types of games.

Just started playing Phoenix Wright: Justice for All!

Solved the first case and I like it so far.

Once you finish it, take a bit of a break so you don't get fatigue like I did. Because going into Ace Attorney 3, you're going to want to appreciate every minute of what is the pinnacle of the series.

Seconding the recommendations of Ghost Trick, in many aspects I consider it Shu Takumi's magnum opus. For other DS VNs, 999 is a must.

The second case in Ace Attorney 2 is pretty important, though. The third case is one of my least favorite ones in the series and the last one on the other hand is one of the best. People seem to be a bit harsh on AA2, but I think all the hate is mostly undeserved.

And I second the recommendation to take a break after AA2. I put AA3 down for a couple of months on the second chapter because I was pretty much fatigued, but minds were blown when I came back to it.

I realy enjoyed Ace Attorney and i did take a 3 month break in between finishing 1 and starting 2.

1 is still better than 3 honestly, but not by far

2 is clearly the weak link. Even Apollo is better.

In my opinion;
Trials and Tribulations = Ace Attorney > Justice For All > Apollo Justice = Investigations.

Ace Attorney has two of my favorite cases in the entire series with the most straightforward and consistent character development while Trials and Tribulations has the best overall story to me. Justice For All is salvaged by it's final case which is absolutely phenomenal. Investigations is better than Apollo Justice in writing and game play but for me it's marked down because of the entire set up building itself around one story thread that just wasn't very interesting to begin with which makes the finale a drag.

They're all great games worth playing though and even the worst Ace Attorney game is a good game. Can't wait for AA5.

Also can we just appreciate how Masakazu Sugimori brought back the best song in Ace Attorney for Viewtiful Joe
