‘Harry Potter’ TV series has been delayed until 2027

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Originally planned for 2026, now pushed back til 2027. The series is supposed to be a re-adaptation of all seven books, over the course of 10 years / seasons - meaning the final season should air in 2037 now.

One of the most effective shows displaying wizards and spells, I remember years of Harry Potter content, and that was only 10 years ago.

Gonna try not to die before 2027
Supposed to air through 2037, so try and hang on an extra decade beyond that if you can.

I have zero issues with race swapping characters in this, because we already have a pretty definitive live action version of the story.
The issue here is that virtually all of the characters come from families with long ties to England, so they all predate the vaaaaaaaaaaast majority of the minority influx to England. To realistically stay "in universe" it would need to be a muggle born from an immigrant family. Hogwart's should NOT look like it pulls students exclusively from London!

My guess is they are all looking at the DEI checklist and trying to see how much they need to follow it. Do they add a lot of POC to the main cast? Do they add a lot of LGBTQRS characters and storyline?

Or do they do the safe, logical, reasonable thing and hew close to the movies (and the books) with casting and characterization?

The money guys certainly want the film magic again. The creatives may want a much more trendy "modern" take, which would be a big mistake IMHO since the Wizarding world is so technology regressive. Those first books are very much kids books as well, all the "edgy" teen crap doesn't come in till later so it's hard to have a consistent tone across the entire series IMHO.

Didn't the cast for the play(the one with Harry Potter kids) also race swap Hermione?
Honestly it wouldn't surprise me.
That stuff doesn't really bother me, plays have a fairly limited audience and could even be run in multiple places with very different casts. It would be an issue if suddenly Hermione is now ALWAYS played by a black actress no matter what. Plays, to me, have the max amount of actor leeway because they have to be put up by whoever is there. So a school doing this play would just cast the students, so makes sense that the ethnicities of the actors would directly reflect the composition of the current theater class.

But a TV show, with a GLOBAL market, has to think a lot harder about what the audience really wants (versus what the creators want to serve up). HP, to me, is selling a kind of mythic tale of England and relies heavily on a Victorian aesthetic, which includes casting almost all white folk because that's just what lives in almost all of england. And IF there were other ethnicities, most of them should be southern asian, not black. Trying to "Cast the world" into harry potter, but not significantly changing the story to accommodate it, won't feel right to most everyone. And if they do make Hogwarts a global school, instead of a regional one, then I think the "britishness" that so characterizes the story will also be lost.

They really can't "have their [casting] cake and eat it [retain the flavor of the books and visuals of the films]". This isn't a Bridgerton situation, though I suspect they will go that route. They should heed the lessons of Rings of Power (and to a lesser extent Wheel of Time) and realize that book lore and especially a previous establishing film series can REALLY focus the audience and if you just assume they will still show up that can be a VERY expensive mistake.

Now a lot of current stuff is being deliberately written to avoid any and all defining physical characteristics like skin, eye, and hair color so it can be color wheel cast for the inevitable adaptation. But Harry Potter, through the authors own art, has a specific casting particular to the place it is representing.

Ultimately I don't think casting "for color" will make or break this show. But I don't think they are being genuine with "open casting" either. Just admit to a quota system, own it, and then let the actors win us over instead of the gaslighting we are being fed instead.

Yes and Rowling was shilling that she was always black. In 10 years Harry Potter went from left wing fiction to ring wing fiction.

I'm glad, I was so tired of full grown adults using Harry Potter to make sense of the election in the States.

OBAMADORE.

Loved the books and the films. The thing I fear the most will be will they even want to to explain to new audiences that the books are before internet? Not before AI, Youtube or even Wikipedia. But before 9/11 and the wars in Afghanistan and Irak? I am sure that the showrunners will not care and made it happen today. And Harry isolation in today overconnected world? Not possible. So there will be minor inconsistencies often, and this is before talking about injecting new storylines in the series. For me the actors choices will be primordial. Because the books are over, and the films too, they will have a impossible mission: be young actors and be compared to veterans like Emma Watson and Alan Rickman. Here they are fucked no matter what. Race swapping is in theory not a problem in the setting, outside of the obvious consequences in terms of plot armor that will be given to the person they will race swap. If I had a choice, put the whole Weasley family AND the Malfoy family minimum.

Zero interest in this as it is. Books and movies are great. This just reeks of a creatively bankrupt money grab. Mix in race swapping for the sake of it and that's just another strike against it.

Didn’t they just welcomed back JK Rowling? (After removing her) Maybe they scrapped whatever they had and now they’ll start again with a more faithful adaptation 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
The whole idea of a Harry Potter tv reboot should be forever delayed. Nothing good can come of this.
Plus the original movie cast are pretty much iconic. I don't see any of the characters from the TV series going to resonate with people especially Snape.

Other than the kids, the rest of the cast are brit acting LEGENDS, just shocking who they were able to get for these films. Brits seem particularly resistant to long term contracts that eat up 5-10 years. And if this show has the "new normal" of a season drop every 2 years.....I just don't see how they can do it with real talent. Obviously there can be break-out stars but this is such an ambitious project because everyone knows how every character ends up, those contract negotiations have gotta be brutal!

The shows been delayed cause finding 3 young kids who fit the role and are willing to give up their lives for the next 10-12yrs is no doubt proving insanely difficult, I'm a parent and I would have to seriously think long and hard about letting my kid get cast in a show that's going to pretty much be theirs AND our lives going forward, yeah the money will be great but child stars don't have a good run of it and they need em young, it's a monumental task and one any decent parent would need to think about
