Why why why remake the books again. Make it a prequel series and copy & tweak the book story slightly. You literally have the original author on board and you can't write a new script?

Because they missed a lot out from the books and a TV show will allow it to be more faithful to the story. They could focus on the adults a bit more and spend time showing off the Marauder's story and more about the teachers/adults/Order of the Phoenix members. A lot of Dumbledore's backstory was left out and even more of Voldemort's. The final battle that the entire series builds up to was completely ruined in the movie so for that alone I think it's worth doing it again. And of course there are numerous other things that were left out.

The movies are good but they butcher the last few books.

The first season is going to be 8 hours long. The movie is only 2.5 hours. So we could get 8-10 episodes most likely. The movie was quite faithful to the book so that means we're very likely to see the original opening scene with Mr Dursley at work and seeing all the wizards/owls, extended Zoo trip, Harry and the Dursleys trying to hide from whoever is sending the letters (they drive around for hours and stay at a hotel instead of just ending up in the middle of the sea), more of the scenes of Harry in Diagon Alley (like the first time he meets Malfoy instead of at Hogwarts), Hagrid & Harry riding the tube, The dursleys taking him to King's Cross and abandon him there, they could show Harry and Ron being terrified about what the sorting ceremony is (Harry thinks he has to fight a troll iirc), Harry sneaking through the castle with Norbet the dragon. There are some more challenges for them to go through to get to the stone like Snape's riddle/potions + poisons. That's all I can remember but there are more scenes they could add of course.

They can always make a Cursed Child movie later on... :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I grew up reading the books and love each one of them. I enjoyed the movies but the books are way better. This show is what I always wanted from a Harry Potter Adaptation. Longer Run Time and around 8 to 13 Episodes will be fine with me. The movies cut alot from the books which is understandable but with the added runtime with shows, they can add alot more from the books

I'm iffy on the Snape Casting News but I'll give it a chance. I hope they knock this show out of park. I have faith in the show because J K Rowling is heavily involved

the snape thing isn't official yet. i'm iffy on it too but i'll "worry" about it when it's confirmed. the guy is talented as fuck for sure but he just doesn't scream Snape to me (and no it's not because he's black). It seems all the other rumoured cast are good so who knows.... I'll give a chance. I'm gonna watch the show start to finish no matter what because I love HP.

might as well go through the rest of the books and pick out stuff that the movies didn't show and things they could spend more time on! this isn't exhaustive....there's much more that can be shown.

CoS (this movie is also quite faithful to the book)

Longer extended Dobby introduction/Mr + Mrs Mason scenes.

De-gnoming the Burrow garden. More time at the Burrow

Extended Floo Powder / Knockturn alley scene and the fight between Mr Weasley and Lucius Malfoy

Everyone (Mr + Mrs Weasly, Harry, Ron, Ginny, Fred, George, Percy) all fit in the tiny Ford Anglia and try drive to King's Cross but Ginny forgets her diary (the horcux. foreshadowing) so they have to go back.

They could spend more time with Harry + Ron flying the car.

Harry finding out Filch is a squib scene and the whole Deathday Party scene!

Lockhart's Valentines party

More Hagrid backstory

PoA

Harry gets to spend way more time at Diagon Alley during summer. I would love to see Harry explore and relax more in the area instead of it most of it being at the Dursley's.

Extended scene of Hermione getting Crookshanks and foreshadowing for Scabber's the rat.

Harry sneaking through the tunnel to get to Hogsmeade.

More Marauders story, more focus on classes, and snape/lupin foreshadowing.

A lot more of the time travel scenes.

GoF
More of the Riddle House scenes.

The Weasleys arriving at Privet Drive to get Harry but get stuck inside the wall and destroy the living room. Fred & George pranking Dudley. Mr Dursley throwing shit around the house in anger.

Dinner at the Burrow. Could spend more time here.

A lot more time of them travelling to the Quidditch World Cup and at camp. and ALL of the scenes they cut from the entire QWC. Winky. Ludo Bagman. The veela..... and the actual match itself!

More Mad Eye Moody scenes

More class scenes. I want to see Blast-ended Skrewts.

S.P.E.W and the entire house elf plot

Moody casting the imperius curse on Harry... not a spider.

More Rita Skeeter
Weighing of the Wands

Hogwart's Kitchen scenes

More Yule Ball scenes

Much longer second task

Much longer third task (i wanna see the sphinx)

Meeting Sirius in the mountains

Longer voldemort/harry fight

Harry giving his prize money to Fred & George

OOTP

Harry chilling in the dursley's garden

Dumbledore sending a howler to Mrs Dursley

Way more time at Grimmauld Place. HRH discovering a locket (the horcrux)

Ron and Hermione becoming prefects

Mrs Weasleys boggart

More Luna

The sorting hat singing

Dobby wearing all his hats <3

More of the Percy fallout

Hagrid telling more of his adventures to visit the giants

Ginny becoming seeker

St Mungos / Nevilles Parents / and the return of Lockhart

Christmas at the Grimmauld Place

More occulumency with snape and his backstory

Firenze the centuar becoming a teacher of Divination

Marietta Edgecomb

More flash backs

Harry having career's advice with McGonagall and discussing becoming an auror.

A LOT more of the Department of Mysteries. There are so many rooms they explore. The one with brains, the one with time turners, more of the veil room, and the prophecies.

Much longer conversation with Harry/Dumbledore where Dumbledore reveals to Harry a lot of information. How Neville could've been "the chosen one", why he has to go to the Dursley's each year.

The two way mirror

HBP

the muggle prime ministers meetings with the minster of magic.

dumbledore arriving at privet drive, talking shit to the Dursley's, giving him Kreacher and Grimmauld Place from Sirius' will.

Harry/Dumbledore's first lesson where they learn more about Voldemort (The Gaunts)

More Snape/Malfoy plot

apparition lessons

The other (third not second) Harry/Dumbledore lesson where they learn more about Voldemort's past.

Kreacher and Dobby spying on Malfoy

Other Harry/Dumbledore lesson where they see Voldemort visit Hepzibah Smith and Dumbledore interviewing Voldemort to be a teacher.

More focus on Horcruxes

More prophecy stuff

Longer scene of Harry/Dumbledore visiting Voldemort's cave.

Dumbledore's Funeral.

DH

way more dumbledore backstory

better scene of the dursleys saying goodbye to harry to go into hiding. Mr Dursley showing some sense, Dudley showing he actually cares about Harry, and the scene with Mrs Dursley.

longer 7 potters extraction scene. them stopping off at different safe houses on the way to the burrow.

more time of HRH escaping the burrow and travelling to grimmauld place

more Kreacher/RAB/locket backstory

longer scenes of HRH planning to infiltrate the ministry and what they get up to inside it

way more time of HRH travelling around the country trying to avoid death eaters.

Potterwatch Radio

visiting Godric's Hollow in disguise. could extend this too.

longer scenes at Lovegood's house.

Ron's reaction to Hermione being tortured.

more down time at Shell Cottage

Gringott's break in could be longer

Harry going in search of the Ravenclaw diadem and visiting the Ravenclaw common room.

A LOT LOT MORE scenes of the battle/voldemort hiding in the shrieking shack

More Snape/Lily backstory

and of course the whole entire final battle. Not harry/voldemort hugging and flying around Hogwarts. It's meant to take place in the great hall where everyone witnesses Voldemort dying. Not going up in a burst of confetti but just falling over stone cold dead like a mortal man and then getting stuffed in a cupboard and buried beside his muggle father who he despised.

Harry repairing his wand.

I read it think thr first 4 or 5 books and I was a fan but not obsessive to the point that they need to redo all this again. The movies were good to great

see above.

for someone who loves the books the movies were disappointing to great.

book 1-2 are faithful. 3 is quite good but starts missing out things. 4-6 cut out so much (because they are the longer books). splitting the final book into 2 movies was a good decision but could be better.....and they fell at the last hurdle. the final battle is fucking shit in the movie. almost ruins the entire movie series.... all that build up for that? i get it's a movie and they need to add some excitement and action but just no.

Quite honestly, the films are great as films. The books great as books.

I'd prefer an anime.

That said, I don't care for the story much past the Goblet of Fire. The Order of the Phoenix was the first book I struggled to even start and it took me years to get around to finishing it and the later books. I like the world of Harry Potter in the more innocent early years, not the teenage angst and more serious tone in the latter parts. That is how the story was meant to be; I just don't like it much.

Thank god driver is not snape.

Everytime i look at him i think about that kylo moron acting like an angry child in the shit wars movies.

I thought the same after the Star Wars movies, but then I binged a bunch of his SNL stuff. He is actually really funny and can act. Staw Wars just portrayed him as an idiot.

The shows been delayed cause finding 3 young kids who fit the role and are willing to give up their lives for the next 10-12yrs is no doubt proving insanely difficult, I'm a parent and I would have to seriously think long and hard about letting my kid get cast in a show that's going to pretty much be theirs AND our lives going forward, yeah the money will be great but child stars don't have a good run of it and they need em young, it's a monumental task and one any decent parent would need to think about

Showbiz parents aren't exactly beacons of great parenting methods.

I didn't read all the books, but I felt the existing movies did a good enough job. This isn't like ASOIAF where there's meticulous subtle details all over the place; I don't think HP will benefit a lot from the extra runtime. I suspect this'll suffer even worse than fire and blood WRT filler episodes.

On the point of race swapping. I'd guess a delay will actually help on this front. The culture is very much moving away from this bullshit. While a lot of the casting is probably actually already done, those which aren't will most likely not have as much pressure to toss in PoC/LGBTQ/etc... where it is obviously not the original intent.

They're probably just going off some comment Rowling made that she wanted a British cast.
Hey. Don't you "they/them" me, bro!
For a story set in Britain.

And we still haven't forgotten Dick Van Dyke.
Provided they're not too ugly we allow all sorts of British actors to ply their craft. And aside from the occasional misstep, for the most part it's fine.

Anyway, that was a pretty strange way for you to write, "he's right, she put a blanket ban on American actors in the movies and unless she does a 180 she would never consider Adam Driver for any role let alone a major one like Snape"

Americans have no place in Harry Potter. End of.

Go enjoy Fantastic Beasts if that's what you want. 😄

Yeah yeah JK was all tough too until she realized nobody in Britain has composed a banger since Greensleeves and the studio dangled John Williams in front of her gnarled schoolmarm face!

I think it was this image that first introduced me to the idea of HP anime. Outside of the later film inspired muggle school uniform inspirations, where wizards famously bad at muggle fashion somehow do proper shirt and trouser/skirt attire perfectly, I like the style and it makes you wonder what it would be like. Anime for one would be able to stay truer to the books, and the ageing cast wouldn't be an issue.
