AC Shadows biggest UK launch of 2025 in physical sales, ahead of MH Wilds. Sold less than Valhalla, but did more in 1 week than SW Outlaws in 3 months

I figured it didn't do as well as Valhalla. I'm surprised it's apparently doing better than Wilds though. Even in the UK.

I wonder if it's because Wilds sold much better digitally.

Edit: Also, Valhalla is pure unfiltered garbage. It's the only modern AC game I couldn't stand whatsoever. The others are at least good for some brainless fun while enjoying gorgeous vistas.

Seems like it’s doing pretty okay.

Not a massive bomb or anything

Not going to save the company, but maybe they can restructure around this IP and shed headcount and hope to grow from here
Even if it sold shitloads it wouldnt magically save the company. With the sexual harassment lawsuits, investors upset about possible IP diversification through other publishers, their recent bombs such as Prince of Persia, Avatar, SW Outlaws, Skull & Bones (lol) they dont seem to be doing great.

They have some stuff going for them with Siege which has an active player base, and the crew motorsport seems to be doing okay.

But all in all this was never gonna 'save the company '

Even with MHW numbers Shadows will hardly save Ubisoft, they’ve dug a hole too deep and their problems are too systemic for a single AC to save everything.

That being said, Shadows is the game that I’m enjoying more than any RPG AC and I’m glad it’s doing well.

They’re probably also hoping the Rainbow Six Siege revamp does great numbers.

Though I’m not sure I’m seeing much hype here

One mild success won't save the successive flops of Prince of Persia, Skull and Bones, Frontiers of Pandora and Outlaws indeed

No, but the damage has already been done.

If Shadows had bombed, the company would be in a much worse state (and it's already pretty dire). Basically, the company would be insolvent without one good IP. We can at least hope that they can rally behind Assasin's Creed moving forward, and hopefully the executives stop making bad decisions everywhere else, relying on other people's IP is not always a good thing.

It worked amazingly well for Insomniac, but not so well for many others....misjudged the popularity of Star Wars and Avatar in the gaming landscape.

Definitely was never going to save the company. They needed something along the lines of Elden Ring or Monster Hunter Wilds to make up for the past several flops.

This does add value to the Assassin's Creed IP, however. Or at least, it doesn't lower it.

I said it in another thread, but I hope it does well enough to not completely crash the company, but also poorly enough to make them have a serious rethink about how they make games.

Is there any monetization in this game?
I've never played any Assassin's Creed game so I don't know if that's a standard feature of them.

Imagine getting a perm warning due to having a meltdown over Veilguard, and then subsequently landing the permanent ban due to AC Shadows.

Crazy work. Hope he finds a happy home over at Reee.
Don’t worry, he will beg his way back for an unban like a couple of members on here.

Edit : oooh the boss banned him? N/m then

Valhalla was middle of the pandemic wasn't it, and released on previous gen so not sure it's an apples to apples comparison tbh.

fascist reee banning people for minor disputes is one of the reasons why nobody likes that place

Why though? At this point AC is better off in other hands.

How many more mid Witcher 3 rip-offs do gamers need. With time saver mtx and a cosmetic store to boot.

Well if he does grovel to come back then it's as clear as day that he needs to be here for obvious reasons. Especially given that he's mentioned on a few occasions recently that he didn't like being on this forum. There comes a point where that infamous Tyler the Creator tweet starts to apply.

100% agree. I was kind of rooting for Shadows to bomb so the process of Ubisoft being sold off would be quicker. There are like 10 AC games currently in development. We sadly won't see any massive change until many years down the road, regardless

I loved AC + Far Cry once upon a time.

I take comfort in the fact that smug prat Yves will go down as the face of their downfall.

I think there's still talent left at Ubisoft, and a complete decimation of them is NOT good....

I think they have gotten the picture with enough bombs that things have to change. Their development strategy must change....so maybe we get away from all the gimmicks and they get back to focusing on what matters rather than checklist committee style game direction focused on monetization.

Too many examples of smaller studios absolutely killing it because their games are good games first that don't focus on junk. This isn't rocket science, I would hope the executives would finally wake up that their consumers are not stupid....

He needs a time out.

The game is good and even us anti-woke warriors on GAF like it too. The OT is full of praise but he kept winding himself up over people on X and bringing it into the thread. Like mate, just play the game.

They will never change, trust me. I spent years hoping Activision would change and make Call of Duty what it used to be. It will never happen.

Empires rise and fall. Don't get excited for brands because of what they did in the past, get excited about games that actually look exciting.

That's the thing, if the game ends up doing well and saving Ubi and/or the franchise then so be it. That's ultimately what the audience have decided. I'm a strong believer in letting market forces do their thing and that the collective customer is always right.

There are serious and more interesting discussions to be had about why (and how) the build up to this game has been so shrouded in controversy, but there are certain individuals here who have been insistent on being rude, patronising and reductive in the way they've addressed individuals who have spoken out against the game (or elements of it).

At this point Ubisoft would need a time machine, some corporate espionage to steal the League of Legends concept in order to save the company. I don't even think Fortnite would save it.

Next best thing is pay the Guillermots' to get the fuck out of the way and put someone else in charge.

The issue isn’t the sales or the wokeness of the characters.

It’s the fact that these games cost multiple times more than the older AC titles because of DEI crap where they are paying some person who should be flipping burgers at McDonalds $200k a year to tell them to make it more gay.

Like having 75% of the romances in the game being gay isn’t going to equal more sales, and they are spending enough money to make like 5AA games on putting gay stuff in the game.

The fact it’s gay isn’t the point. They could be spending that money to put like the Hamburgler and Grimmace and Mickey Mouse into 1700s Japan, it would still be a waste of money. That’s not why people play AC.

People thinking Ubisoft's biggest IP by far would be a massive flop are huffing the same copium that the shills are pretending this game is some massive chud-owning success story.

It's likely not going to do as well as Valhalla, even if by the looks of it being a better game than that (stealth mattering again is nice), and I don't think it's going to have impressive long-tail sales vs other entries unless Ubisoft pulls off some interesting DLC expansions.

Doesn't MH typically skew far more towards a non-Western audience than AC does?

MH World didn't make the top 20 for physical sales in the UK in its release year. On the other hand, Shadows being 'well short' of Valhalla could just be because less people buy physical games now.

Except they aren't. Maybe there are some cushy DEI hires in their main Montreal studio, but the majority of the game was made by infinity Indians in outsourced studios getting paid peanuts. That's the reason why the credits are 2 hours long and half the people involved are called Baldeep.
