AC Shadows biggest UK launch of 2025 in physical sales, ahead of MH Wilds. Sold less than Valhalla, but did more in 1 week than SW Outlaws in 3 months

it will give the Guillemot family a considerable advantage in negotiations for a possible acquisition or financial partnership
Dont care if the Guillemots are pissing off with a billion more or less...and I dont get it what gamers have of it? (it makes it just more difficult to get a fresh wind into that company imho)

Without actual numbers this isn't useful information at all. Even if we had numbers, the sample size is so niche that it could hardly be used as an indicator for how the game is doing generally. Physical only in just the UK.

We know Star Wars Outlaws sold like a total of 1 million units.

We know Monster Hunter Wilds sold 8 millions copies in the first 3 days.

And we know that Assassin's Creed Shadows has 2 million players (a mix of copies sold and subs to Ubisoft's sub service).

So the only information that's really given is people in the UK love buying Assassin Creed games physically.

Valhalla sold around 151k copies physical and around 159k copies digital on launch week in the UK.

That was in November 2020 during Covid and PS5/Xbox series launch.

Well behind is Origins with 102k units physical and 57k digital.

Odyssey did 75k physical and 50k digital.

The previous entry, Mirage, did about 40k physical and 60k digital on launch week.

Is not known where Shadows landed, but it did around 10k+ on Amazon alone for the PS5 version.
Where is the 151k number from?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Didn’t you rent the game from GameFly?

It’s funny commenting about physical game sales when you are the biggest proponent of gamepass which ultimately kills game sales completely dead?

Very weird the way people are championing this game one way or another.

Even if it sold shitloads it wouldnt magically save the company. With the sexual harassment lawsuits, investors upset about possible IP diversification through other publishers, their recent bombs such as Prince of Persia, Avatar, SW Outlaws, Skull & Bones (lol) they dont seem to be doing great.

They have some stuff going for them with Siege which has an active player base, and the crew motorsport seems to be doing okay.

But all in all this was never gonna 'save the company '
AVATAR sold 1.6mil in its opening week, compared to 1mil in the first month for Outlaws.
It also had much smaller discount sales than the likes of Skull and Bones, and even Outlaws despite launching much earlier. In fact it took months for its first discount, while Outlaws and Skull and Bones was a few weeks.

So i think AVATAR did ok, not massive obviously but fine i guess.

It isn’t just one person, that was an example. Where did I say $200k a year covered the budget of multiple past AC titles?

I said that if you add up the millions they spend on DEI, Ubisoft could make a few AA games.

Well, you did say it was a ‘person’.

But where did you get the idea that they’re spending millions on ‘DEI’? Find it strange there’s a lot of people making arguments on data points that are either made up or assumed.

AA games. You know the cheaper niche games that used to actually make some money that propped up these companies?

You mean like that well received Prince of Persia AA game that debuted to solid reviews but sold poorly?

Or even Immortals Fenyx Rising that didn’t sell that well?

Pretty good news, I guess. Valhalla did extremely well and it's actually one of the AC games I really liked (although it suffered from being way too long) so it's hard to beat that.

Yeah its worth remembering that Valhalla was the biggest selling AC yet, and was 4th or 5th biggest selling game of that year (and 3 of them ahead of it was COD, GTAV, and Fifa).
Even without all the fake rage, Shadows probably wouldnt of beaten Valhalla. Not physical anyway.

I don't get it...how is it that being the biggest launch of the year and a launch bigger than a Monster Hunter game in a country points out for a game just "not being a total epic bomb"?

Sounds like "roughly breaking even" is a given?
Worldwide its not biggest launch of the year, its only biggest launch of the year in UK 1st week when we only count physical copies, u think if it was biggest launch worldwide(aka bigger from 8m sold copies in 3 days that MH:W did) ubi would stop at 2m players announcement and didnt say more?

Valhalla was also a launch title this gen. Hell of a lot bigger promotion than a title launching 4+ years later

Seems like this game not being a failure broke some people around here.

People are trying to grasp at straws to paint the game as a bad product.

Folks who are playing it are enjoying the game, and seems like its selling well.

Embarassing to see some people who are never going to buy it this much invested on hating it "'cause Ubi sucks", "woke product" or something

Weird for fans of AC to hope an AC does well? Why?

No that’s not what I’m saying. I’m not talking about assassins creed, I’m talking about the drama surrounding this game and there seems to be sides being taken.

I’m on no side at all. I think the game looks pretty good apart from the 30fps hideout. But there’s people cheering it to do well or bad on both sides that I just find to be an interesting observation.

Edit: also the fact that Adamsapple somehow cares about physical game sales or game sales at all is completely ridiculous, they want to pay the minimum amount for every game going, absolute race to the bottom mindset.

Fair enough. I misunderstood then.

Doesnt SW Outlaws run on Snowdrop?

It's not as good looking as AC Shadows nor does it run as well

Outlaws with RTXDI and Ray Reconstruction looks absolutely phenomenal.
The setting lends itself well to the engine due to all the hard surfaces and varied roughness. (interiors really shine in this game, id assume a SplinterCell game would have alot of interior scenes).
Avatar also runs on Snowdrop......peak geo density and GI implementations.

But either engine will do a good job.

Edit: Also, Valhalla is pure unfiltered garbage. It's the only modern AC game I couldn't stand whatsoever. The others are at least good for some brainless fun while enjoying gorgeous vistas.
I'm a big AC fan and I put Valhalla down after like the first big mission. After researching and finding out this is what most of the game is going to play like. Thankfully I only play these games when they get down to like $20 after a year or so.

It’s crazy how many people shaded their analysis of this game based on their desire to see a shitty company go out of business.

Exactly! It's sad. Yeah Ubisoft isn't a great company anymore, but to be so jaded about this one game is crazy.

The spin is hard with this one; it is not going to matter.

SEE! This is what I'm talking about. ChorizoPicozo ChorizoPicozo is a good poster, but even he is falling prey to this jadedness.

I love analyzing the video game industry, it's a fun industry to monitor and go into depth with, especially since its a product I enjoy.

But there is so much that comes along with it these days, it used to just be the fanboy-ism and console warring but now it's that with cultural stuff. It makes this infinitely less fun.

I could tell if half these guys were refereeing a game, they'd call the game so that the side they wanted to win, won... there's nothing analytical about them. The data is just a means to an end. It's honestly sad. I've been analyzing the video game industry for more than 20 years and I've never seen this before.

Is the data even a means to an end? It seems like regardless of what the data says, they are already locked and loaded with their opinion. They seem to only need the data as their "spin".

Well what I meant by that is you use the data to win your points regardless of what the data says. All you have to do is move the goalposts if you don't like the data or interpret the data a different way.
