According to Jeff Grubb, Sony is set to release a God of War side-story set in Greece this year

OK. Everyone keeps asking about this, so I've tried to find out more: There's still a Greek God of War thing coming out this year, but it's not a remaster collection. It's a new side-story project.

I was never told about a Remaster collection, but I asked a source about the rumors (that I saw were focused on a collection) and they told me that nothing God of War would happen at the State of Play but something could show up at the anniversary.

From the guy who said it was remasters and that they would be announced at the anniversary...

Stop listening to this guy. He is a terribly inconsistent source and the biggest things he has gotten right are a Day's Gone remaster and knowing when there is going to be a state of play...

Would be great if they brought TC Carson back to voice young Kratos while old Kratos somehow meets up with him. Maybe try to talk some sense to him while they continuously clash throughout the story.

I am curious what this is even going to be. Coming out pretty soon after Ragnarok so it could be a bit of a reskin of the modern games. I dont know if they would try something like the old games again. Then there's that canceled GAAS. I have no idea.

wonder if this is a bridge to kratos ultimately settling in egypt and vanquishing the gods and becoming a pharaoh

If it's a smaller project it could be more DLC for Ragnarök ala Valhalla. They already laid down some of the foundational work there like bringing over the enemy models from the Greek Saga into the new engine.

I'm interested of course, but if they dare to pass on integrating rendering and streaming tech worthy of the PS5, I'm out. They neglected doing such things with major cross-gen titles like Forbidden West and Ragnarok. And continued the new tech neglect with PS5 only titles such as Burning Shores, TLOU Pt 1, Death Stranding and Ghostbof Tsushima director cuts. No more excuses. Your first party titles should be evangelizing the hardware capabilities of the platform. Kudos to Insomniac for understanding this from the very start of the generation.

TLDR: No RTGI, no buy.

I hope we're also getting that rumored collection as well.

I'd love a Demons Souls-level sendup of the original trilogy. The last two games really didn't scratch the same itch as the first six for me. I was pretty much over it by the time Ascension came out, but that was a long ass time ago. The last two are fine for what they are, just not what I want in a God of War game, and I'm guessing this side story will be in that style as well. Would be cool if they did a side series that played like the original games. I'd love a God of War VR game as well, but we all know Sony like to pretend PSVR2 doesn't exist...despite pissing away probably enough money on a trash idea live service game to fund all the shit I mentioned above.

Still salty we never got an exclusive Vita game after all these years. Those two PSP games were GREAT, especially being handheld titles. Here's to hoping that with these rumors of a handheld that plays games natively being a part of PS ecosystem next gen, Sony toss some money at making good, smaller titles that make sense to play on a device like that. I love Housemarque, and still think Returnal is one of the best games of the last five years, and very much look forward to Saros...I'd also love it if they grew to a size that would allow a team to continue to put out those smaller, fucking awesome games they're also so good at making.

He definitely did...

I think people just see Jeff Grubb mentioning a rumored project and an event, and immediately assume that he is backing it up.
No, it was quite obvious that he was telling those other insiders that, if that rumored GOW collection was a real thing, it would probably be shown at the anniversary event (before it was confirmed that no game announcements were going to happen there).
Now, if this GOW spin-off for this year doesn't end up being a thing, sure, call him out. That's all on him.
Grubb? Trust me, bro. He's worse than Jez and you're setting yourself for a disappointment.
He *did* get a new Astro Bot game for 2024 right, even if a lot of people were actually expecting if for that year.
It may be bullshit, yeah, but I'm slightly willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Mostly because this isn't something that would make me sad if fake, lol.

Jesus Christ... way to double down.

I agree. Then young Kratos could kill old Kratos, effectively putting an end to the Norse series, and pick right back up where Young Kratos originally left off.

New storyline: Atreus gets killed by one of the gods. Kratos loses his final straw, goes back to the old kratos and beyond. He shaves off his beard and makes a promise to not stop until all gods are done for. To do this, he must become most powerful and all, and kill anyone in his way. And so the quest begins..

After the "collection" we've just seen, this "story" will probably be little more than a limerick.

There once was an young man from Sparta
Who found out that Zeus was his father
He beat him to death
Then got up and left
And grew out his beard some time after

A collaboration between Santa Monica Studio and an external studio for a 2.5D metroidvania not unlike Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown sounds like the most reasonable excuse for them to want to go back to Greece in a spin-off form.

A smaller project from a tentpole IP very much along the lines of last year's LEGO Horizon Adventures.

Betting on an Until Dawn-style choose your dialog game staring Atreus and the Witch lady from 2018.

Yeah, the consequences could be dire as it would ultimately be a suicide mission either way. I imagine a measured Kratos, looking to right the wrongs of his past and potentially reunite his family, traveling back to confront his younger self desperately trying to caution him of what the future holds. However young arrogant Kratos, full of impudence and disdain, dismisses this portentous encounter as lunacy.

Of course if this were to take place before he pledges himself to Ares it could yield some very interesting results. For example, if young Kratos is eventually talked down and chooses a more righteous path then maybe he returns to his first wife and daughter, possibly even reuniting with his brother Deimos. This would mean old Kratos, Atreus and the whole Norse timeline would cease to exist. It would no doubt weigh heavily on his mind.

Or maybe he doesn't reach young Kratos in time, already having offered himself to Ares becoming the Ghost of Sparta much to his dismay. He sees himself on the path of God killer. This would introduce an interesting dynamic in the story and would prove a very compelling narrative if handled correctly. But honestly I think most us just want to see both throwing hands and runnin that fade off the bacc!
