I'm serious. They didn't ditch the fat chin? And they added brushed metal? Bleugh. That's going to look dated far earlier than it should. I'm surprised they didn't learn their lesson with brushed metal in OSX.
And the keyboard is mehtastic. So they ditch the numberpad and make the keys flat like the Macbook's? Boo. Apple, I bought an iMac so I can put it in a corner and let it stay there and look pretty (as well as have great functionality), not to haul it around with me in my travels like a laptop.
So total disappointment for me. I'm glad I decided to bite early and buy a regular Intel iMac. :/

I would imagine the "chin fat" is necessary to accommodate all the components inside a fairly small case in addition to the LCD itself. As for the keyboard, the pictures on Apple's site are showing a normal sized keyboard with the 10-key attached, so I suppose the previous picture was just for the wireless option. One question I have: how would the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO hold up if I wanted to boot into Vista and run some DX10 games?

Whoa. I didn't think I'd buy a imac again but...
Argh.... it says estimated ship 3-5 days for the iMacs, but once you add any build-to-order option (even just the wireless keyboard!) it goes up to estimated 3-5 weeks.
The 20" 2.4 Ghz model is probably what I'm gonna get. I wanted to bump up the RAM to 2gb and add the wireless keyboard, but I'd rather not wait 3-5 weeks. I guess I'll just order RAM off newegg.com or something. This might work out better in the end, now I can just purchase everything from the retail store.

For $1299 you get the base model.
For $1599 you get the base model with 70GB of additional HDD space and the upgraded graphics chip.
So for $300, you're getting 70GB of space (a $54 upgrade through Apple) and a graphics part you can buy for $115 at retail. It's even worse when you consider at retail you can get a 256MB 2400XT for $90. So big picture, you're paying $300 for a $79 upgrade. Meh. (EDIT: So I guess $221 for 400 MHz? Forgot about the processor difference... although I think that's about $100 more in real retail cost)
Needless to say if I bite any time soon, I'll go for the base model. I'd like some more 3D capability, but I think I can live without.

I'll soon be in the market for a new PC (laptop or desktop I haven't quite decided) and while the iMac obviously isn't aimed at the gamer market, the more reviews I read on the ATI 2600 PRO HD the more I see the words "disappointing" and "gaming performance" next to each other. It's starting to look like it'll technically run modern games, but they're likely to be less than fluid at idea resolutions...

Man, Apple complains about their low presence in Japan every time they report their earnings.
But Apple can't even be arsed to update their Japanese product pages to reflect the new design that was unveiled a few weeks ago (with Safari 3.0 as such). Their website still shows the old iMacs. :lol

So the entry price (by dropping the small screen) actually got higher for desktop Macs? Eh. He says in the QandA that they can't ship crap (ie. cheap) but I thought Apple might fill a gap in their lineup. Mini got a very small face lift, but it's obvious they don't care about the unit much.

After playing around with Numbers a bit, i must say it rocks. I'm buying the new iWork 08 for sure.

Well I just ordered a 24". It will replace my old G5 iMac. A nice plus is being able to play Roller Coaster tycoon 2 on my iMac now, love that game.
They last refreshed the MacBooks in May. So you're probably safe to buy now ... for a few months anyway. But you might as well wait until at least October. Then you'll get Leopard built in.courage201 said:
