The main issue IIRC was the position of the fans (on top), which resulted in many people resting their books on top of it, causing it to overheat.

:lol

RTFM
ID 10 T Error

Etc...

I think it looks great! But I wonder 'bout the screen. It's an LCD but what are its specs (contrast ratio, display type, response time, brightness and so on)?

Okay, one more picture. The thing looks pretty badass.

The store is up, btw. Damn, the bluetooth keyboard is expensive, and doesn't come in a fullsize form.

Open the damn store so I can get my purchase in :)

Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect.

Thanks sportzhead! Seems to be OK screens to me but I would have preferred a higher contrast ratio. And I assume that the response time is 8ms, right? :)

I'm serious. They didn't ditch the fat chin? And they added brushed metal? Bleugh. That's going to look dated far earlier than it should. I'm surprised they didn't learn their lesson with brushed metal in OSX.

And the keyboard is mehtastic. So they ditch the numberpad and make the keys flat like the Macbook's? Boo. Apple, I bought an iMac so I can put it in a corner and let it stay there and look pretty (as well as have great functionality), not to haul it around with me in my travels like a laptop.

So total disappointment for me. I'm glad I decided to bite early and buy a regular Intel iMac. :/

I like it a lot. Moving away from bathroom white is definitely a good design decision. These kind of make me wish I were in the market for an iMac.

I would imagine the "chin fat" is necessary to accommodate all the components inside a fairly small case in addition to the LCD itself. As for the keyboard, the pictures on Apple's site are showing a normal sized keyboard with the 10-key attached, so I suppose the previous picture was just for the wireless option. One question I have: how would the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO hold up if I wanted to boot into Vista and run some DX10 games?

I can't make any claims about its DX10 performance (there aren't many games out that use it yet), but that'd be a more than fine general gaming card.

That's just the wireless model. The wired one has the full set of keys.

Argh.... it says estimated ship 3-5 days for the iMacs, but once you add any build-to-order option (even just the wireless keyboard!) it goes up to estimated 3-5 weeks.

The 20" 2.4 Ghz model is probably what I'm gonna get. I wanted to bump up the RAM to 2gb and add the wireless keyboard, but I'd rather not wait 3-5 weeks. I guess I'll just order RAM off newegg.com or something. This might work out better in the end, now I can just purchase everything from the retail store.

You must be crazy if you are ordering RAM from Apple.

I ordered the 20" 2.4 Ghz model and upped the HDD to 750GB. Didn't bump the delivery too much -- my confirmation email says delivers by the 17th. BTW Apple's RAM is incredibly expensive so you're better off just getting it with whatever it comes with, buying RAM from newegg, then eBaying or selling the stick the system comes with to pay for it.

I'm kinda torn atm, any advice.

Is the 2.8 Core 2 Extrem a significant boost compared to the 2.4 Core Duo. Right now i would go for the 24" or the 20" with 2.4 Duo but i don't know really, any advice on what is Configuration would be a good median on Value/Performance/Price ect?

Why would you ever... EVER... order RAM from Apple? Bad, bad Sean.

I never did before, but was thinking of doing it this time for convenience sake since I was already customizing it by adding the wireless keyboard. After I saw the ship date move to 3-5 weeks, forget it. I'll just order everything separately instead. I'm too impatient.

Think I might just max out the RAM to 4 GB now if it's cheap enough. That should be useful for running Parallels.

Man, I know it's Apple, but the value proposition on the second-tier model, at least in Canada, is sketchy at best.

For $1299 you get the base model.

For $1599 you get the base model with 70GB of additional HDD space and the upgraded graphics chip.

So for $300, you're getting 70GB of space (a $54 upgrade through Apple) and a graphics part you can buy for $115 at retail. It's even worse when you consider at retail you can get a 256MB 2400XT for $90. So big picture, you're paying $300 for a $79 upgrade. Meh. (EDIT: So I guess $221 for 400 MHz? Forgot about the processor difference... although I think that's about $100 more in real retail cost)

Needless to say if I bite any time soon, I'll go for the base model. I'd like some more 3D capability, but I think I can live without.

That new mini bluetooth keyboard should be a godsend for PS3. At a fraction of price of that Logitech Edge keyboard too.

So when will Apple upgrade the ipods? My 8GB Nano is almost full, and I want to upgrade to itunes plus too... 16GB Nano please.

I'll soon be in the market for a new PC (laptop or desktop I haven't quite decided) and while the iMac obviously isn't aimed at the gamer market, the more reviews I read on the ATI 2600 PRO HD the more I see the words "disappointing" and "gaming performance" next to each other. It's starting to look like it'll technically run modern games, but they're likely to be less than fluid at idea resolutions...

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/radeon_hd_2600_performance_preview/

At the price I'd pay for an iMac after the warranty options I'd be after, I think the card could potentially prove to be a bottleneck. It'll be nice when some real world benchmarks come out for the system.

Well, 24" for me, when I can afford it. Need to get some furniture for my condo first. :)

I guess the hardware will be powerful enough to run StarCraft II too, whenever it's released.

Man, Apple complains about their low presence in Japan every time they report their earnings.

But Apple can't even be arsed to update their Japanese product pages to reflect the new design that was unveiled a few weeks ago (with Safari 3.0 as such). Their website still shows the old iMacs. :lol

You can pretty much bet it'll run Starcraft II well. Likely not at ZOMG maxed out settings, but it'll look good.

Hmm...when did this happen? Looks like the Apple Store dropped the price of all their mice in NZ.... Maybe time to get a wireless mighty mouse? OR maybe I just get a wired keyboard...it has more USB ports for me. Oooo....

God, I'm such a Mac ho.

So the entry price (by dropping the small screen) actually got higher for desktop Macs? Eh. He says in the QandA that they can't ship crap (ie. cheap) but I thought Apple might fill a gap in their lineup. Mini got a very small face lift, but it's obvious they don't care about the unit much.

Interested in how the 2400 (and the 2600) performs compared to the X1600. Wondering if it's worth picking up a 20" old-style iMac. I think I can get it cheaper with a 2.16GHz processor...

Well I just ordered a 24". It will replace my old G5 iMac. A nice plus is being able to play Roller Coaster tycoon 2 on my iMac now, love that game.

I'n still curious about the macbook--- I'm still planning on buying the $1299 mid-range version-- but apple has a history of updating or bringing in new versions nearly every season--- so now I'm wondering if I should just wait.
They last refreshed the MacBooks in May. So you're probably safe to buy now ... for a few months anyway. But you might as well wait until at least October. Then you'll get Leopard built in.

As for the iMacs, I really like this refresh. Slimmer, sleeker, glass. And I don't even mind the black border. My boyfriend does not like the black either, though, so I may be in the minority.

Why do they design the monitor to be square ?

There's a huge space wasted (the part where the Apple logo located)

Another weak attempt at trying to be different, but it will probably passed off as "artsy"
