Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Shadows will not be compatible with the Steam Deck at launch, which will come as bad news for those hoping to play the game on Valve's handheld platform. Assassin's Creed Shadows is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, but will still be unavailable to a small section of gamers after this news.

That might be a deal breaker for me . . . . or I'll have to pay full price for it on PS5 and use my Portal.
I've started using steam key sites for 3rd party games.

Did they give a reason WHY it’s incompatible.?

I love my Deck but why do so many in the community expect a handheld PC that’s 3+ years to be able to play the latest AAA games? especially at launch

frankly it’s amazing how many games released in the past couple of years that they’ve gotten to run on it
Games like Cyberpunk or RDR 2 can run perfectly on the Steam Deck...And they look very good currently.

The thing is that Ubisoft is not interested in optimizing it.

Nor does the Assassin's Creed game look luxurious, honestly.

Exactly this - I look at my massive back library of steam games and think how much of a miracle that little box is. The fact I can play the vast majority of new AAA games on a tiny portable 15W box is a bonus on top.

It gets me when I see people screaming for a deck 2…. By the time it launches it’ll be the same situation & people will be crying for deck 3 - as games will have moved forward and require more grunt to keep up. You’re never going to be ahead of the power curve with a portable low watt device & compromise willing or otherwise, will be part of the game. With expectations in check - it’s my favourite gaming device ever.

Aren't many Ubisof games not compatible with steam deck just for the sole reason that their anti cheats system does not like Steam OS /proton? I sure have a bunch of Ubi games I can't play on my steam deck...

Cause pretty much everything works on it, even games that are not officially supported. So why would we expect different?
The only game I've tried that was too terrible to play on it was Pacific Drive.

I Have a Rog Ally X and its brilliant, but I dont expect new games should or will run on it, Steam Deck or other PC handhelds. Some people get shity about it but I dont know what fucking magic they expect from them, they do still play some new games but for me its amazing for my backlog.

it probably is compatible... they just aren't ensuring compatibility.

nearly all Windows games are compatible, the only issue that can come up is anti cheat systems kicking you out... but I kinda doubt that's the case here. but it could also be their DRM fucking with proton

I'm mad that it won't be on 3DS 🤬

Will be funny going forward to see how many games skip Steamdeck but release on Switch 2
Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than the Steam Deck based solely on specs

The Steam Deck is not particularly strong hardware by any stretch of the imagination and while it got away with playing older AAA games, stuff like Black Myth Wukong, Monster Hunter Wilds, and now AssCreed Shadows is simply too much for it

Not really; the Switch 2 will be more potent and capable than the Steam Deck. And, it’ll have a significantly higher user base due to, well… Nintendo.

OT: I’ll be playing Shadows part time on my Ally, then. My Steam Deck has become my last gen/older games machine in any case with the ROG around now.

New games have been running fine on my Ally Z1E, to be fair. I can play Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a heavy UE5 game, on it and get stable and consistent performance without sacrificing too much in the way of visuals. Hell, I’ve even tried the likes of Avowed and KCD2 on it, and both have run quite well, and I’ve even seen people play through Stalker 2 on their Allies.

The Ally (at least the Z1E and X), have plenty of life left for current gen only titles.

ah yea there are alot of new games that run and are playable on these handhelds, I think there great but when a new game dosnt im completly ok with it as I know its limits. Im keeping an eye on a couple more patches for Avowed then im going to give it ago on the AllyX, seems a good easy game to play on work nights for an hr or so. Realy happy with my Ally and im excited for the future of handhelds now with Xbox and PS getting involved aswell.
