Since you posted that laughing emoji under my post saying I set the difficulty to Story:

On Story you can just casually enjoy the game and focus on exploration while having a little sense of progression.

Couldn't give 2 shits about challenge in a game like this. I'm not playing this game for the 'game' part.
Yeah that doesn't work for me, i get no enjoyment from curb stomping a game and i find funny when people love to just button mash their way to victory with no friction at all like a story mode suggest (never tried so i don't know how brainless they can be)

Progression\exploration enjoyment for me is strictly related to challenge and the core gameplay is nowhere strong enough to make up for it.

To each his own. No judgement here.

I also get no enjoyment out of curb stomping enemies. But it seems you missed the point when I said I don't play this game for the 'game' part.
I'm just enjoying the visuals, exploration and world-building and it's the sole reason I bought this game.

Soon, I'll be busy with the Monster Hunter World, PoE2 and Arma Reforger updates anyway. This game is like an audiovisual intermezzo to me.

About 2 hours in and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did than the opening of Valhalla at least, Naoe is not a bad character but I'm baffled with how they start her as a assassin kinda but then delve into her backstory at optional parts which are more interesting of a story to tell. I guess they're going with the Redemption/classic Samurai story of killing the group that did you wrong one by one

Looks gorgeous on a base PS5 though

Yeah i usually never do that so it wasn't clear when you said that you bought the game for the non-game part, now it is more clear.

Don't get me wrong, some times a game is just ok in terms of gameplay\challenge but i stay for the location\plot\characters (like yakuza 0, core gameplay is just...ok but the rest is wonderful) but i never do that on purpose, it's just something i discover after playing the game a bit.

I envy the fact that you are gonna play world for the first time, that's one hell of a game.

This is running on Geforce Now. You don't need a PC as expensive as a car, you just need decent internet.

- Edit, sorry, double post.

Why you have to laugh at Nvidia like that? :messenger_dizzy: GFN is likely the best streaming service out there, but it's still limited by what current encoders can manage.

Post a 4K capture during night time, if you want... you'll see a big time struggle by the encoder to handle 60 frames per second in real time even the latest and greatest AV1 can't manage to draw a presentable image at 60 fps in dark scenes. Let's forget about all the advantages of owning a personal system for a second, about downgraded IQ... but there no way to avoid additional input delay or lag and there no way to counter that by increasing frame rate to 120 you will get even worse IQ opposite of game running locally.

Switched to atomfall for a moment, the game ultimately feel like every other ac game where you see everything gameplay wise after 10-20 hours and then it's just going through the motion until you get bored, and i'm not exactly a samurai/feudal japan super fanboy so the location and lore doesn't do much for me.

Also, the game is far too easy, even during stealth i barely used the prone and i think i only used shadows to hide 1 times in 30+ hours, you don't need to engage with all the systems because the usual whistle from bush + kunai headshots is really enough, i don't even need to move bodies, this is nowhere near mgs5 level imo.
Combat is even easier than stealth, i don't like power fantasies, i like to have a constant challenge, right now i don't give a damn when i find legendary loot, a cardinal sin in a game like this, they should have released the game with an extreme mode.

Also the plot really shoot his best load at the beginning, the presentation of the masked dudes and some naoe/yasuke scenes were really the highlight and since then it has been the usual lame ubisoft writing for most of the time with some rare exceptions (usually related to my dude nobunaga being on screen, at least they nailed him).

Maybe some time away from the game is gonna recharge my synapses and make me ready for round 2.

I think i liked origins more even if it is probably a worse game than shadows, maybe because it was the novelty of an action rpg assassins creed, the sequels never hooked me the same.
Agree with difficulty part. Finding legendary items should feel rewarding, but now it's almost worthless since your characters are so overpowered already and once you rank up suddenly or noes now my little Naoe can take on a group of 5 head on and make quick work of them fairly easy and I feel she shouldn't be able to do that. Some hardcore setting with maybe extra achievements for it would be nice.

Exactly, naoe with the kurasigama is lethal, you just need to space yourself well and don't get gang up, and with infinite stamina roll it's not hard to do and the enemies just can't keep up.

I'm not even using the kurasarigama with that absurd 200% bonus damage when you send enemies against other enemies because it would break the game even more, exactly like the yasuke armour that make you parry red attacks, and i fucking hate to limit myself in games.

Cool thing is...
when you reach knowledge level 6, you get an additional upgrade tree.

With newer skills?

And yes I agree that the game needs a nightmare mode or lethal mode. I dont know how they will call it but I think it's needed because I am at level 30 now and I dont find much challenge anymore during fights

It's more like... to further increase various stats like damage, health, crit and so on. No new skills unfortunately.

It's true, its not perfect, but I play in 1080, and while there are times when it can struggle with heavy vegetation when I ride at full speed, it's fantastic for 98% of the time. I can't afford a top tier system right now, I am still rockin my old rtx 2060. But with GeForce Now, I have played through Indiana Jones and Avatar, and I am playing Avowed and Assassin's Creed right now, all at ultra with ray tracing, and it feels like magic.

I plan to upgrade to a better machine later this year, but for now its perfect for me, it's miles better than any other streaming service, and well worth it if you have a potato pc.

After my early restart I am only 20 hours in to the new game but I finally unlocked Yasuke. I'm just sort of bumbling around not knowing what I want to do next. I didn't really know what to add to the hideout either so I just increased levels to the main buildings. Turns out to be the best thing I could have done.

I'm enjoying the game. At the same time, its frustrating how close it comes to some really special, but Ubisoft is gonna Ubisoft with some amateur mistakes.

* Way too many cutscenes early on. Like, wow.
* Dialogue is fine (I'm playing japanese), but script is too bloated. So many meaningless conversations that could have been cut and nothing meaningful would have been lost.
* Assasinations using R1 is such a shit design. More than a few times I tried to assasinate someone, but it ended up in absolute chaos.
* The scout system sucks. It just sucks. Its cool on paper, but the execution is terrible.

Loved the flashback sidequests and world design. As someone who have replayed Unity recently maxed out at 4K, the graphics here arent mindblowing, but they've finally reached Unity visuals again since 2014 (for the most part)

I love the game. 50 hours in and i see myself playing this for another 50 hours but everything you mentioned is so on point its almost depressing. Brother, you dont have bloated conversations until you are 20 hours in and start bashing circle button yelling SHUT THE HELL UP. Although i like the combat to an extend, this game have no right to map the hit buttons to r1 and r2 since your attacks have zero heaviness to them. It should have been square and triangle. I know i can change them but im just talking about the mentality. Scouts are also dumb and pointless since all they do is first; delay some looting and second showing a location exactly like the regular map would do but with tha square button in the middle.

Is there a way to call your horse without it storming in from offscreen like an absolute lunatic?
Nope, no matter what you do it will rush burging in and lounge you to the exact opposite direction
Surely maxed out geometry should look better than this? These textures at distance look like dogshit, it's like I'm back in pokƩmon scarlet at times.
Thats an issue with this game, it doesnt look that still but it looks perfect in motion

It does kinda make sense, if you subbing for a few months and then don't play for next few and resubbing again after some time, but if you a gamer who plays every month then it's 500 for two years. That's a whole new graphics card which you can sell for 250 easy after getting a new one and just continue the cycle.

And you probably can't play this on NGN:

You don't want textures to be as sharp and high res as the ones you're standing on or there will be no sense of scale, no sense of distance, it would just look very strange. Even in real life you don't see super sharp trunks of trees 5 miles away... well I can't anyway.

You exaggerate my issue, I'm not talking about some crystal clear mountain miles away from me. This tower on the hill is not that far away from where I am, so I expect a more graceful transition in quality reduction. It feels like there's only two mipmapping steps for the game to choose from, and the otherwise great graphical presentation is being hampered once I move into a more open space.

It depends on the area. Some places look incredible, with draw distances similar to RDR2. However, there are other areas where you can notice the issues you mentioned. That said, I think those less impressive areas are a minority compared to the rest of the game

I refunded the game just before the cutoff on Steam. Absolutely noped out of this slop so fast, not for me. Such an under appreciated feature... love it

Will try rise of the ronin instead.

20 hours in and I think Iā€™m ready to call it quits.

The world is incredible and Ubisoft deserve credit for the love and care that has gone into the craft.

But the gameplay remains really tired. The AI is just awful, even on expert. You never get any rhythm to the combat, instead standing and waiting for a parry opportunity.

Itā€™s so shallow.

You have a point about lod levels, but not everyone is Rockstar with unlimited budget. Game looks great still

Iā€™m around 10+ hours into it now, and still in the first area. Itā€™s such a stunning game. Naoe is an enjoyable character to play as, possibly my favourite since AC Syndicate. And her hair! Itā€™s the most realistic hair Iā€™ve ever seen in a game. I had her standing on a hill in a storm at night, with her hair and outfit blowing in the wind - truly superb.

And the gameplay has been great - just the right side of challenging for me personally. Iā€™ve just completed a castle area with 3 Samurai and it was a lot of fun taking out their allies before going in for the kill. Probably took me over an hour to complete it!

Iā€™m also enjoying playing in the explore mode, using the occasional scout to find the objective. Saying that, they all seem to be busy collecting stuff from the castle at the moment.

I also found a cave that ended up being fairly vast, with some nice treasure. Nice to find stuff like this without being prompted of its existence on the map.

The animal drawing collection is cool as well. Iā€™ve only found 3 but I can see me wanting to find the whole collection.

This is a good 9-10/10 for me so far.

Enable guaranteed assassinations from the menu and go for mostly stealth, its way more fun that way

I sometimes encounter a ronin that is two or three levels stronger than me and he will absolutely fuck me up. There is no counter for the power difference, the only option is to run away.

I wish the combat was better. Having to constantly stat-manage and upgrade gear to keep my weapons and armor on my current level is not only exhausting but fundamentally a time-waster. Fast-travel to the hideout, walk to your forge, talk to the guy, select the menu, upgrade each individual item, quit out of the menu, quit the conversation, fast-travel back to wherever you were.

Such a slog.

Im constantly getting new stuff anyway so why should I invest in old gear really

Why can't a company like ubisoft makes good animation and cutscene. I want to get invested in the story but seeing the voice acting, character expression and overall animation just break the lore.
I know that it is difficult to do for a vast open world game but I have seen it with Horizon forbidden west or a smaller budget game like A Plague tale.

I don't try to tell you how to play or anything, we all play our way that is the most enjoyable to us personally, but it's possible to simply hunt those 3 or 5 or 2 however many of those big guys are at the fort or castle and completely ignore all other guards and that will give you access to the chest.

The cutscene direction and the japanese voice acting is great. Such a huge step up above Odyssey and Origins. Didnt play Valhalla.

The facial capture [if that was even used at all looking at some of those cutscenes] are not that great for sure, but I keep seeing animations being mentioned... does any other game even has better animations at all? They're are great.

Couldn't ubisoft simply used Metahumans or is that not possible in their engine. Didn't HFW used it? They look superb.

to add I find older people look really good much better thna young ones. They're so detailed.

imagine playing this game after playing 150 hours of ac valhalla

I have done that.

And bumped the stealth and combat difficulty up to expert.

The game does come alive for the stealth sections. But itā€™s just too big, too unfocused. And thereā€™s nothing like enough meaningful loot and gameplay progression to justify the time sink.

Incredible world though.
