Torii gates are found close to religious shrines all over Japan to indicate a boundary separating the human world and the sacred. The one-legged Torii gate has significant meaning of its own, however, as one can famously be found at the Sannō Shrine in Nagasaki, located 900 metres from the hypocenter of the World War 2 atomic bomb which killed upwards of 60,000 people.

The shrine was destroyed almost in its entirety, with the only thing that remained being half of the torii gate. It has been preserved in such a state as a memorial to the tragedy.

Some were therefore upset that PureArts used a one-legged torii gate in its roughly $70 figure. "The new six-inch Qlectors Assassin’s Creed Shadows Yasuke & Naoe is the perfect fit for any collection," it said in the announcement post. "Where will you display yours?"

Let me guess, retardeds of this cultural bullshit at Ubi though was cool putting things they found cool on their trip to east but didn't give a single fuck about doing their research first. And as a safety measure they simply name call everyone against it.

ohhh it based on the gate? I mean....this is fake though, I'm all for being sensitive to some of this stuff, but this is a fictional IP, it would be like Fallout or something altering the design of something based on looking to not be insensitive, I think it depends on the intent and the content itself, like is it created to make a claim of any historical significance or seeking to make fun of it etc

I've seen a countless destroyed torii gates like that in all kinds of games and anime/manga

Agreed. I mean, look at all the fictional games, anime, manga etc literally within Japan that have altered gates, either damaged, corrupted, broken etc

I think that sort of thing would make sense in Fallout though.
I don't understand the context in which this would be related to Assassin's Creed.

They are both fictional worlds...

So you rarely see this type of outrage because its not like they don't understand the thing being made isn't real

So this would make sense in both titles.

They are fake...

This whole ultra sensitivity thing to exaggerate all news about this game simply sounds fake, this would be like me saying "OMG did you see what they did to the FLAG on Fallout" as if I don't fucking get i'm talking about a fake, fictional thing lol SO if they want to change it based on sensitivities, they are free to.

I wouldn't change a damn thing.

I don't even know if anything could be done regarding some work that 100% NO ONE would be a snowflake over, there is no game, no film, no anime, no manga where every last element, no one would be offended over.

At not point in time do I recall someone making some massive deal on here, regarding Attack On Titan having them thangs completely destroyed, I don't buy any of that shit and as someone that watches lots of Anime, Manga, plays last of games about Japan, that isn't some wild ass thing that a Torii gate is broken, damaged or anything weird like this like its some law suddenly cause UBISOFT did something.

Those that seek to even try to make this into a wild thing, rarely can prove its an uncommon thing within Japan's own artistic works, to then think this publisher doing it is some wild concept.

Its not...

They kind of dug this hole themselves, and now the folks they are trying to appease (mainly the Japanese) are hyper sensitive to it

The Tori gate was but one of the many slights the Japanese percieve, the obvious first focusing on a black man in a Japanese Assasins Creed game

Could be as this is a better explanation of this then any genuine concern.

Lets be honest here, the we Westerners weren't the only ones looking forward to an Assassins Creed set in Japan, the Japanese have been wanting this too (consoles aren't huge there, but they are still a thing) and so I kind of get feeling insulted, GOT was great and they were probably hoping this would be too, and Ubi claiming to want to be historically accurate (*to be fair I think Ubi meant the setting ) with a man who wasn't a samurai and then to straight up hire a unreputable source to push that narrative rather than just start by saying "we're telling a fantasy story here" from the beginning...yeah that's insulting...

And the shit was investigated (or is) by the Japanese Government, so this isn't just a bunch of kids either...

Yeah this reveal rightfully upset more than some

*to be fair Ubi keeps fucking that up too lol

AC numbers have never been massive in Japan and the Japanese government is not investigating video games lol

"No, the Japanese government isn't investigating Ubisoft's game"

Cause using this logic, they would also be investigating other publishers that have had this character as he is in Dynasty Warriors , NiOh etc and that just makes zero sense.

Snapped right into the please don't cancel me dance. Ffs just say 'oops, didn't mean anything by it', stop talking, and let the mob move on to an easier target in a few days.

Did they even have a mob forming here or are they preemptively prostrating themselves? It starts with obstencably civil criticism so you're already talking too much when they go to cancel.

I don't understand. What harm could these have caused people?
It still a personal tragedy for some people and the nation as a whole.
It's like depicting WTC bombing and brush it away "it's just a fiction" - a lot of people will find it inappropriate and offensive. Some random skyscrapper - ok, there are a lot of depiction of those blasted. But WTC has a symbolism and it's a personal tragedy for some people.

Nah, thats like taking any building that is destroyed in a fictional game that has literally nothing to do with 9/11 and saying THAT IS based on the tragedy of the WTC...

This is a reach man. This game is not based on WWII.

We have games based on that, from Japan mind you that do some wild shit.

Let me remind this man is fucking named from one of the bombs

mgs2_fatman-boss-guide.jpg

I'm sure someone really is this sensitive to something like but they would be about anything at this point, they would have to avoid Bleach, Attack On Titan, Gundam, really anything that has such a thing destroyed based on some fight or something.

They are free to feel this way, but I don't know if it makes sense for someone to create around such an exaggerated idea. I think if the intent is made to demean, make fun off or something, maybe it just, but to just criticize off bat purely based on the existence of it, nothing is allowed in any game then. Thats like me saying I'm offended from a Ford Cars cause a car accident, MS, take them thangs out of FORZA....NOW!!!!!!

If I said the US government was/is investigating it don't mean the big house of white...it could be a State senator that's still Government

And yeah as Lockley (you know one of Ubi's main sources for Yaskue's inspiration appears to be completely full of it, I stand by what I said

Is it like making a toy in US with an unrelated hero sitting on the skeleton of the twin towers?

This game is sent hundreds of years before WW2. It's clearly not the same gate from Nagasaki.

Yup. The people that said it and misled others that the Japanese government is investigating got that info because they don't even know japan politics and took the words from that right wing party that opposes the government. NHK Party is an opposition party that doesn't run japan, and Satoshi Hamada doesn't speak for the Japanese government. Haha, it's crazy how many people went with this talking point just to pile on the game.

What is insensitive about them? What harm did it cause?
No one is actually offended, it’s more about pointing out their hypocrisy about pretending to care about social issues and other cultures. Ubisoft is the publisher that put out the South Park games, no one actually believes they stand for any social messages that they are attempting to push now.

TBH is it really "pretending" in this case? Isn't it more likely that they just had no idea what a single leg torii gate represents? I sure as hell had no idea before some Japanese dude got pissed about the collector's toy. They then responded by fixing it. That doesn't seem hypocritical.

So the pussies that weren’t going to buy the game, still won’t. There’s times to buckle to consumers, and then there’s times to tell the vocal minority to eat shit and deal with it.

I’m far from a Ubisoft/Assassins creed fan, but the pussies over at Ubisoft shouldn’t have catered to a group that was never going to buy their product in the first place.

If you’re offended by anything AC:Shadow was doing, you’re a moron. It’s a game. Get over it.

Do you really think that using the broken tori gate is not offensive?
WTF. Next thing you'll tell us that Asians should not be offended with Mickey Rooney portrayal.

Do you understand concept of symbolism?

If someone will make a game 200 years in a future where twin towers heavily resembling WTC will be bombed - it'll still be offensive, even though it's clearly a fiction and towers are not WTC
It would be offensive to someone, but I wouldn’t remove or censor it, if it made sense in the context of the game.

I recall many Japanese people speaking up about it. It could be that in view of all the other criticism they received for Shadows, they decided to 'err on the side of caution' and remove the figurine. As well, everyone is free to have their own opinion on it, but I think they made the right choice. Not only did the One-legged Torii Gate not exist during the time period Shadows is set in - its historical and cultural importance to the Japanese people doesn't lend itself to a figurine for a game.

It would be more like a creating a figure of a Call of Duty WW2 soldier doing a cool pose under the Arbeit macht frei entrance at Auschwitz. It's just shockingly poor judgement.
