Assassins Creed Shadows: Real-life Japanese shrine officials are “taking action” over Ubisoft’s portrayal of religious site

What a retarded take.
I'm very sorry I hurt your feelings. It's a fucking work of fiction full of all kinds of violence, but destroying a couple of props in a shrine, that's too much, right. Equally as bizarre as people who were upset by some trans jokes, caricatures or whatever in GTA V that ended up being removed. Some people should really get a grip.

So you're telling, that Ubisoft taking a Japanese shrine from Japanese culture and allowing users to break some things on it is disrespectful?

I'm saying that is what the Japanese people mentioned in the article are taking issue with. I don't think we know the details on what is destructible here, but seems to be more than just some random "things".

Well there's a case to be made that their book (in their opinion) is sacred.
Hard to argue a wooden table is.

But if it were the quaran and the protagonist was chopping it up or taking said shit on it. Then you'd have alot of angry Muslims.

What if the items in the game that can be destroyed are considered sacred?

The irony... from the same folks that force other countries to use pronouns, type A/type B, unskipped woke/cringe scenes, put LGBT flags into a fucking viking ship.
WTF are you even talking about? I think both this outrage and the things you mentioned are retarded.

I think you're reaching and I think the Japanese are still pissed over the black guy in Japan (rightly so) over a Japanese guy and now they're bitching about every detail to take issue with the game.

Honestly this is getting ridiculous, people just want to jump on the hate train about this game.
It has no obligation to be either faithful or even particularly respectful.
If the same criteria was applied to every game we would play just with fantasy cartoon stuff.

I don't. Let the Japan tell their own culture instead of a western group.

So by your own argument, Japan isn’t allowed to make Resident Evil games set in the US and Silent Hill (a town in the US) games anymore?

We literally live in a time where the entire zeitgeist of arts, media and culture is hellbent on destroying anything of value and you're out here playing nuance-bro because "durrr it's just a game durrrr". I bet you loved that movie "Conclave" where the new pope is trans. You probably can't wait for the new Jesus Christ Superstar where a female black diversity hire plays Jesus? Bet you lapped up the Veilguard as well with its insipid lecturing on gay shit or Dustborn, Concord, Life is Strange, etc.

Stop just accepting all this cultural destruction. Yes you should feel somewhat bothered that a token black character is smashing up Japanese cultural sites in time where black on asian hatecrimes are through the roof.

You dummy.

I mean I like to dunk on Ubisoft as much as anyone else, but this seems a bit of “Look at that bitch eating crackers” sort of reaction.

How many times did Churches or religious figures get attacked in games?

Of course considering all the controversy around Shadows, Ubi probably should have thought certain things through better.

The first one was having a black dude killing japanese people in the most violent way possible tbh

It is what it is

Yup, this is their whole argument while everything gets burned and destroyed.

Yeah, like I said, you are one of the people that should seek treatment. I haven't even seen or played anything you mentioned, but feel free to keep assuming some random shit. Imagine complaining about woke snowflakes while you get triggered by a couple of props getting smashed in a game. Clown.

Yes. Good comparison btw, I was expecting something like this from you anw.

A zombie game is a culture from USA. Bravo.

The RE games are frequently set in the US. It depicts homes, businesses, churches, etc. being destroyed. Are you under some insane assumption that American people don’t value their own homes and such?

Also, hey, sweetie, I’m going to spell something out for you…..it’s entirely possible that somewhere in Japan, a Japanese person said something really fucking stupid. Try not to fall out of your chair in shock.

Also, Silent Hill games have monsters, not zombies. Educate yourself.

I think a lot of this is due to foreigners (typically streamers and tiktokers) acting like fools in Japan and taking the piss out of their culture. Including their Shinto shrines.

I wish people in the UK stood up to preserving culture too. As we are literally witnessing it being utterly destroyed the past 30 years.

Reminds me of that dumb cathedral controversy that insomniac recieved for Resistance.

Had those cathedral officials trying to get it delisted from the BAFTAs.
My first thought too. Just ignore it all and wait for the game to come out. I'm sure it'll be mildly disrespectful (in the way that most historical fiction can be) and mostly dull to play through. So, just like most modern games in the series.

Please don't gaslight me.

"Cultural appropriation takes place when members of a majority group adopt cultural elements of a minority group in an exploitative, disrespectful, or stereotypical way."

Isn't the whole controversy around this game that Ubsisoft is making the main characters are a black samurai and a woman?

All this time I was being told games are just fiction.
"Cultural appropriation" is a made up term by mentally ill degenerates who apply it selectively when it suits them.

People are really arguing and getting upset over the dumbest fucking things these days. Oh no, a character in a fictional video game destroyed some random objects in a shrine! Truly, nothing on this level has ever been done in videogames before.

I miss when John Thompson was making these kind of stupid arguments.

They've always been disrespectful to religion, with one exception.
So this isn't new.

Highlights the difference in Japanese culture (or eastern in general perhaps) vs the west. Many western cultures emphasize freedom of speech and, by extension, the freedom to offend. Seems to not be the case in Japan when it comes to their shrines and religion. I've noticed what you have as far as Ubisoft's treatment of religion in the past. Will be interesting to see if they will stick to their guns here.

So, the "drama culture chasers" and grifters on Twitter got what they wanted sharing that stupid video and getting attention. I wish all of these idiots would just go away. But they won't considering they keep getting attention so they keep getting paid. I really couldn't care for this game, but it really is being dragged by all those idiots, lol.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
I'm starting to turn around on AC: Shadows. I was really turned off by the devs making a game set in historical Japan and then making Yasuke the main protagonist. Ultimate DEI choice. But now there are so many overblown controversy around this game that I'm losing my patience with the people who keep serving us these nothing burger stories. The chance of me buying ACS is becoming more with each fake controversy that hits this forum.
