Assassin's Creed Shadows has already passed 1 million players!

I'm not sure if this game hits 70,000 on Steam. I know AC is bigger on consoles, but that seems quite bad. It will probably still end up profiting, but early signs point to it not being much of a success

By comparison, Ghost of Tsushima sold 2.4 million worldwide the first 3 days on a single platform (PS4)

Sold, not "players"

I'm sure the budget for GoT was a fraction of whatever Ubisoft spent to make Shadows

It's not a question of whether "1 million players" is good enough. It's a question of how much Ubisoft spent to make it, how many they need to sell to break even, and how much that Tencent acquisition offer will be

Ppl said this about DAV on release and guess what? they were right
The best part is this game was always going to sell copies. Like, what idiot thinks an AC isn't going to sell a few million copies? That doesn't change reality. And reality is, the last two AC games sold significantly more than that, Ubisoft is on the brink of bankruptcy or being sold, Shadows has to sell at least as good as Odyssey to be considered a success and keep Ubisoft afloat. They also delayed it multiple times, which means more cost. And finally they completely had to kill the cash cow monetization that got Valhalla to 2 billion dollars due to the backlash, completely removed Gold and Ultimate editions, and begged people to pre-order by giving away the DLC that normally would have made them bank. So all the gloating is so premature it's hilarious and reeks of desperation. We've seen this movie before and it doesn't end the way people think.

How many subs on Ubisoft+? Is it included in Gamepass or Playstation+?

I'm in a weird position as I know quite a few persons that work at Qc City studio and I hope them the best but at the same time, I'm tired of Ubisoft copy paste games.

Like all those youtube grifters calling KCD2 woke and then the game sold stupidly well?
This modern cycle of gaming news is so dumb. Both sides claim victory on launch day, then the losing side just continues as if nothing happened and moves onto the next game... god above, it looks so fucking silly.

For the record, while I'm actively looking at the gameplay, music and story of this game because I'm a helpless Assassin's Creed fan, I'd be nothing but happy if this game flopped so that perhaps this modern RPG formula for AC dies a horrible death, but I can't take any of y'all seriously.

I’m surprised how great it looks on Steam Deck. I’m liking it a lot so far. Only a few hours in though. Didn’t unlock George Floyd yet.

KCD2 being woke was stupid i ll give you that, but DAV failure was writen everywhere and i dont think AC having gay romance or Black protag is the problem, major problem was the PR nightmare, game really needs a reboot imo.

Honestly people are so retarded when analysing sales numbers, context goes out the window. Case in point the premature celebrations about Dragon Age being EA's biggest steam launch, completely ignoring that it was the first day one Steam release in years and also the fact that the peak was half of DD2 which sold well but hardly gangbusters.

People who think this is a success should remember Metaphor also did 1m in a day. Do you really think this game, which is advertised everywhere I look, and probably has 5x the budget aspires to do the same as Metaphor? Far too early to tell but this is hardly groundbreaking.

Meh, I’m going with its assassins creed and it would always sell a certain number of million. The question here is how many? I think it will underperform still given the budget.

It's worth pointing that AC Shadows is getting much better player reviews than Veilguard. Veilguard has 'mixed' reviews on Steam while Shadow has 'very positive'. Better ratings on Playstation Store too. Word of mouth can help the game.

I'm starting to think that's why certain people are hyped for this. They haven't been able to experience the gold standard for samurai games.

I mean it probably needs to sell 10 million
I think the baseline understanding of how many sales to hit just the bottom of the line is around 6-7 million from people spitballing numbers based on breakdowns. That is in recouping costs and etc. In order for it to be a financial success it probably does need to hit around 10million.

Sony released GOT on Steam last year, 4 years after release, and it peaked at 77k CCU. I highly doubt AC Shadows reaches that player count. I'm pretty shocked how low the numbers are at this point

They've done a good job until now but week 1 or 10 day milestones will be telling.

Delaying the game to ensure it isn't a buggy mess and giving away the first expansion to pre orders for free and removing the early access won them back some good will.

Wow I watched a bit of this game to check it out. The voice acting is probably the worst I've ever heard in a AAA game ever (probably). I can't imagine anyone listening to some of these and not laughing. Combat also looks pretty mediocre. In typical Ubi fashion though, the game does look great.

KCD2 being woke was stupid i ll give you that,
Barely seen anyone saying it was woke, at least not anywhere even close to stuff like Avowed/Veilguard etc. In fact it's the woke crazies that was hating on KCD2.

Considering this is the game to save Ubisoft from takeover it's hard cope to even pretend that 3M sales would be enough.
Yeah this game's hype and expectation would need to be at least a good deal higher than FFXVI and FFXVI having over 3 million COPIES SOLD(not merely players) within 1 week didn't even end up good enough.

I hope its a massive success so we can have more entertaining bad writing/voice acting to enjoy! It honestly warms my heart to hear the LOL worthy french accents coming through with their pho "Japanese" accents.

Honestly, its art.

Are you the only person in the world that didn't make up a George Floyd joke in your head?
Huh?

In what way? There was no context in his post other than saying he didn’t get to play as “George Floyd” yet.

Diogo or whatever you want to call him is black but leaping to a dude brutally murdered seems like a large fucking stretch and kind of a bit racist if the “joke” here is supposed to be all black people look alike.

Explain the joke to me like I’m 5.

In a few weeks we may find out it failed. Are you sure you want to post that we are coping? You seem very confident this did well. Why are you so confident.....

People smarter than us that make huge bucks were confident Veilguard succeeded far longer after launch that we are from the launch of this. Also, Veilguard's metrics are better so far than this game.

Truth is I always knew the woke crowd would come out and claim victory on day 1 just like they did with veilguard. Careful though, because they were wrong about that one and it appeared to be doing better than this one.'

I can't say for sure, but I do know this. If the game was a massive success, the pronouncements would be a lot louder and a lot more specific. I know it sucks not to know yet, but I think we have to wait to find out about this one. One thing to note is that this game is a HUGE IP, it needs to create a lot of revenue on a scale most other games do not. If it UNDERPERFORMS even if the total sales are really high, the game will still have failed in Ubisoft's eyes. I think expectations were very high for this with Ubi so I am interested to see if it meets them.
Dude it’s a video game …

This game flopping will benefit no one and it’s weird to want a game to fail so badly…

1 million players is impressive because for months if you been following the internet fake outrage you would think this game was going to do concord numbers on release and that did not happen….

Not to mention, Ghost of Tsushima was delayed once to make room for TLOU2 after that game was delayed.

Whereas AC Shadows was delayed twice because it was not in a release-able state.

Why do you guys always blow your load instantly and end up looking silly? One million "players", notice the verbiage they didn't say sales, ain't shit for an AC game. Time will tell, and maybe you'll be right, but you're jumping the gun to a ridiculous degree.
yeah, its the same language as veilguard’s 1.5 million “players”. I guess we’re seeing the surge of this wording because of the various subscription service that doesn’t exist years ago
