It's more than one thing tho.

- Avowed's primary audience was mostly playing it on GP, that doesn't get tracked.
- Steam CCU for Pirate Yakuza reached higher peaks, *and* it was available on the PS5 too, but it still ended up selling less overall in the month than the Xbox/PC only Avowed.
- That shows that despite just Steam numbers *and* primarily being available on GP, it still ended up selling decent amount of unit sales that it ended up in the top 10 of the month.

Seems alright to me 🤷‍♂️

I can see why Carrie would say they were happy with the numbers.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft is aware of this stat, hence the "everything is coming to every other platform" approach they've taken recently.

The gaming news for this game sales will be just like previous bombs:

*It's selling amazing, eat shit chuds
*Okay it didn't sell as much as needed but it's still a hit
*Okay it isn't a hit, it's kinda bombed, but Ubisoft will survive
*Ubisoft firing employees but they are still working on a new Asscreed!
*Ubisoft shutting down
*Fuck you chuds why didn't you buy the game?

KCD2, which cost 40 million, had 160K CCU on its launch day (and peaked at 256K on weekend).
Keep in mind, KCD2 was very Steam greymarket friendly. But buying keys for the Steam version of Shadows is not so easy (if you can find them at all) in comparison.

Also, the Ubisoft greymarket keys are $20 cheaper than the price on Steam (for me anyway).

So, I guess it's not unrealistic that the majority might get it for the Ubisoft launcher over Steam.

This thread has so much bullshit, I cant believe some of you actually think before you type. The hate people spew outwards onto anything and everything these days is baffling, you'd be better off looking inward than coming on a forum to shit on something you pretend not to care about in the first place. I dont know why you you see a thread about a game you claim to not be interested in, and then think 'I know what, i'm gonna enter that thread and post shit just cos I literally have nothing else going on my life' as though your opinions are somehow important. Who cares if you hate Ubisoft or Asscreed or whatever the fuck, why cant you just scroll past instead of fucking up every thread on the site with hate and negative shit that nobody cares about.

Because like you said, they are pathetic losers who need to spread hate in order to feel seen.

Would not be surprised if these were astroturfer accounts tbh

Of course it is possible decent share of keys got redeemed on ubisoft connect. But even so, do you really think this game is going to be a big success? With these numbers?

I've been saying CCU doesn't matter for some time now and only covers PC players. It's not a true reflection of anything.

As adamsapple adamsapple was saying, it is just one metric. Very difficult to translate Steam CCU to a game's performance across multiple platforms. For some games like KCD 2, it isn't much of a stretch to say those games are kicking ass. But it seems as if some are looking at this in such a polar way. Either it is kicking ass or sucking wind. There's a bit more to it than that. But I agree with you, Steam CCU isn't enough on its own.

Idk what Ubisoft's numbers are going to be, nor their definition of success. I'm just saying it's not necessarily that straight forward to compare CCU numbers between KCD2 and Shadows.

Also, fans waited many years longer for a new KCD game, so I bet Shadows isn't quite as front loaded.

Not even defending anything, I have no horse in this race. I don't even think I'm going to buy this game for a long time yet.

What's my revered elder's take on the game currently?

Too early. I spent last night getting through the prologue which was too long. That was on PC. Playing it on PS5 Pro today to compare. Game is gorgeous on PC. Combat is fine so far. Standard AC stuff really. I'm not expecting this game to blow my socks off. I've played enough AC games to know better. It's just a fun grind for me.

Gamefly or Ubi+ (for PS5) ?

It will probably hit a new peak tonight or over the weekend, but since it already seems to have plateaued for the time being, I find it interesting to compare it to these games.
AC Odyssey was the last Assassin's Creed before Shadows that came out day one on Steam.
Ghost of Tsushima is another samurai game with a similar formula to Assassin's Creed, which was ported to PC four years after its console release.
Veilguard was one of the most recent AAA commercial failures.

Ubi+ doesn't work on PS. I bought the game from Amazon. Sometimes it takes over a week for games to get to me from Gamefly so I stopped using them for new releases. That isn't Gamefly's fault. USPS has been shit in my area for a while.

It's fine though. I'll sell the game on ebay when I'm done and recoup about half of what I paid.

I played on Pro for about 1 hour. And absolutely agree with what you said, just typical Ubi output: gorgeous art, serviceable gameplay, and loads of content. Ubi doesn't really seem to have the capability to breakthrough their own pattern, it will serve the fan knowing what to expect.

Yep. The game has way too much baggage to sell like they need it to. I wouldn't be surprised to see the game on sale for $30 in June.
Even if the game didn't have "baggage" and got perfect scores, it wouldn't make a difference.

Very few games can "save a company", Idk why people the thought that was even I possibly with this game.

Whether I play this or not, I would applaud this game doing bad. There are more things I do not like about their choices. But I mainly stand against the monetisation model they aim to get adopted in the industry. For that reason, I prefer the decline of Ubisoft in the industry, leaving more room for actual customer focussed gaming companies, rather than shamelessly revenue focussed.

This is flopping and you are in denial imho.

I will give you one thing. We aren't 100% sure yet, but I suspect this one will end up well below expectations.

Any time you have to justify that "oh it sold better on consoles" you are probably screwed.

I could be wrong, we don't know yet for sure, but I suspect we see some articles about this in the near future that are very telling. How long until we discovered Veilguard was a huge flop? I remember a period of weeks where everyone thought it sold well and was a success. I remember Scherier's tweet. Top the charts! Don't celebrate early fellas, we don't know anything yet.

Also, remember the PC has a much higher tolerance for woke than console gamers. Just look at veilguard. It was a huge hit on PC. It was us PS5 owners that never bought it(you are welcome). Might be the same with this woke game here.

You need help.

Valhalla was 1.7 mil at the end of the week. If it already broke a mil in less than a day (including preorders, of course), it looks like it'll be pretty in line with that.

We'll see. I want it to do good. It's the best AC since BF (so far, we'll see if my opinion changes as I go on; I was very meh on both Valhalla and Odyssey since the first hour, so this is a good change).

Page 1-6 cliff notes for anyone not wanting to read it all:

- Game looks suck

- Game doing well

- Game a flop

- Praising game

- Complaining about game

- Complaining about people complaining about the game, at a much higher rate that their counter-complains has exceeded their complimenting the game people are complaining about

- Somehow making predictions about people ITT coitus activity level
