The Game Awards 2024 Nominees List Announcement

Yeah I don't know when we decided DLC is eligible.

Metaphor ReFantazio is the obvious frontrunner for the jury, I think, but probably less likely to get the audience vote.
They just decided this year that DLC, Expansions, Remakes and Remasters will be eligible for GOTY. I can agree with remakes, but not remasters, and much less DLC or expansions if they are not standalone.

Should def been there IMO, but hey, at least they got a nom which is honestly more than I expected considering the bias some jornous have against Vanillaware.
We both know why they didn't include it......because character designs are too "sexy" which in their eyes its too "problematic".

Did you play Shadow of the Erdtree? The content in it is rather substantial.
Its still an expansion that needs the base game to be played. If its not a standalone game it should not be considered for GOTY. My opinion. I thik they should have got a category dedicated to DLC and Expansions to reward this kind of content.

Imagine if Fortnite launched a kickass season and soon you have Fortnite Season # wathever as GOTY.

Which remaster are we talking about?
Are you asking me what remaster they find elegible? All of them, its in they new guidelines. In my personal opinion no remaster should be eligible for GOTY though. Remakes that change enough or some mechanics from the original games are fine. Most remasters that just receive a new paintjob, are not fine in my book for a GOTY award.

I don’t get it. Which game from these nominations is a remaster? Rebirth?

Nop, no remasters got nominated. But in the new guidelines from The Game Awards they are now eligible to be nominated. Just like Remakes, Expansions and DLC are also now eligible to be nominated.

Ok, I get it.

I don’t think we’ll ever see a remaster being nominated for anything, ever. Remakes, a whole different story.

But I wouldn’t have a problem with a remaster of some super obscure and inaccessible game being nominated. It’s all about the zeitgeist and what captures the industry.

If anything, I’m surprised Helldivers 2 isn’t on that list since it was the talk of the town for months.

You could same about FROM games heck you can say for lot of games. They even included Astro Bot which looks exactly like Playroom and Rescue Mission.
I didn't play Rescue Mission but Astro Bot is on a whole different level in terms of variety and scale from PlayRoom

If Briana White gets snubbed for her Aerith role I am gonna lose it. Rebirth needs to clean up in a few categories.
At least she got nominated. Can't say the same for the original Japanese VA that's voiced the character since Kingdom Hearts.

Astro Bot must simply win, anything else would be pure nonsense.
a Mario clone for GOTY? really? This is why Nintendo somehow stays in business because people just like whatever is put in front of them with a brand.

I was shocked that the Marvel vs Capcom collection got a nomination for fighting game of the year. On one hand, sure it's amazing and I bought it. But on the other hand, it's literally just a collection of games from 20 years ago.

They share same aesthetics and artstyle.
well maybe it shouldn't have been nominated either, just saying why Unicorn maybe wasnt

I actually dont really like that Vanillaware aesthetic except in maybe the beat em up they did.

Loved shadow of the Erdtree but I still think it's hilarious a DLC got nominated for GOTY.
Also Black myth seems weird given how several other games reviewed higher with critics (Tekken 8, Infinite Wealth, Unicorn Overlord, Silent Hill 2, Dragons Dogma 2 and more)

What a meaner person Geoff is, how is a card game a candidate for game of the year and not Silent Hill 2 or Stellar Blade???

At least there was no anger over Dragon Age veilguard.

Luke Roberts definitely deserves to win for best voice actor. That was one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long time.

Gotta make waves with that Chinese audience. Really though it's because of TGA methodology. They use a ton of different media outlets and every year it boils down to how many big sites/publications actually played half of the games. And their ballot is a compilation of people from each publication. So think about each site's GOTY and how it's chosen by committee, then wrap it up into a metacritic style consolidation into the final result.

Glad to see Balatro nominated. One of my favorite games this year.

Oh and the 'Innovation In Accessibility' category is basically how much DEI did you shove into your game.

I was surprised to see Balatro. I'd never heard of it and had to look it up. Apparently it's popular and well-liked, but I'm still surprised to see a $15 indie title alongside the big boys.

Not a very impressive list, but this whole thing is a marketing racket. Hope some people paid punchable face well to show some cool new trailers at least.

I would have liked to see Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth up for GOTY.

My GOTY is Persona 3 Reload followed by Silent Hill 2. Like a Dragon:Infinite Wealth is up there, too.

Oh, well, I don't need my GOTY validated by The Game Awards--Just by strangers in this forum.
