Fuck. These woke devs are ruining the hell out of the AAA Western games market. It's not even just the pronouns, it's the devs who seem to have a ton of hate in their hearts for regular people and gamers who don't vibe with their ideology.

I was interested in this game when it got announced, but after reading some of the social media posts from these people, there's no way I'd play their games. What happened to Obsidian? Surely this isn't the same devs that made New Vegas, it couldn't be.

Imagine a different and better reality where we could have already gotten a second big Fallout game from Obsidian by now with Bethesda's Fallout 5 since it's been almost 10 years since Fallout 4. Damn shame.

I frankly don't care what anyone's politics are, but I will never be able to understand the active and deliberate efforts made by games companies to antagonise the single largest market for video games. Where are the higher ups stopping this from happening? They can't all be captured by the same ideology. Is it more important to them to not be cancelled, than it is to make a profit? If so, where's the corporate sense in that?

It feels like the power and pull of such a small sub section of the market has been warped out of all recognition by social media, and plenty of people still think they are the ones to be listened to.

How many Concords does it take for executives to realise that this is not the case?

I just get the feeling they are either totally out of touch in their own little management bubbles or they are too afraid to 'step out of line' and acknowledge the problem as they fear they'll be blacklisted from the circle of CEOs / board directors who just seem to float from company to company hiring each other. Or maybe a bit of both.

It doesn't even make any sense for them to provoke people enough to ignore their games. They should quit their dev jobs and join an activist group and stop wasting people's time.

Who the hell knows.

It doesn't matter if a company makes toothpicks or Ferraris. You'd think everyone at the company would be on the same page which is basic classic business sense..... satisfy a targeted market with a quality product and price they can deal with. If all goes well, they'll like it and buy more. Holy grail is a loyal customer. Customers are happy and the company rakes in the sales.

Obisidian is already an established company with RPG fans. Why any company would want to rock the boat with something political like pronouns and DEI which has sunk tv shows, movies and games last few years is crazy.

They must really think their game is so good, any pronoun or politics can be passed over like in BG3. I havent played BG3 yet, but its supposed to have some options for this, but the game is so good people dont care or bring it up.

It's weird that we are now getting social media wars, just like we now have console wars. It's even more stupid though, but I guess it was a natural progression of "the internet". Just know........social media wars is EXTRA stupid.

So I have worked in Mental Health for 15 years, even up to 5 years or so ago I rarely encountered any of this nonsense, and when I did it was people who had always been entirely confused about their gender from the age of 5 or 6 years old. The most ironic thing about this whole 'trans' movement, is people who are genuinely that way inclined through some natural complication in their genetics, the last thing they want is for people to know they are Trans! Even more importantly, they are disgusted by the whole 'inclusivity movement' and don't subscribe to any of it. These people who shout about it are mentally ill, and should never be taken seriously. Historically it's always the same, an oppressed society become the oppressors. It's not enough that these nutters are now accepted as 'normal', they have to ram it down everybody's neck every 5 minutes.

I really hope people like Matt Hansen are all removed from this industry and every industry after that. This shit needs to end and has gone way too far. This whole "can't be racist towards white people" nonsense is something companies should immediately fire people for.

I'm not even white, was born in the middle east and my family escaped hell...but we're considered "white" because nowadays having semi lighter skin automatically puts you in that category. I don't care about the skin color people are born with, this obsession is one of the primary examples of "woke" for me.

When game developers have this mentality and openly go on racist rants like this, it makes me less and less interested in the game. It's such a turn off. I was even thinking of playing the Pillars of Eternity games before this to get more used to the lore...but now I've lost all interest in every playing this game knowing the art director hates people because they're white. Their mentality is that "old crusty white dudes" are all racist, bigots and fascists and they need to be replaced and shunned.

What RPG's need is giving you freedom to actual role play and approach scenarios and characters in multiple ways. So that when the character that seems like it came straight from Resetera shows up you can actually tell them to fuck off, or kill them or set them on some twisted fate like in Dragon Age Origins.

That problem with games like Veilguard is that they put this shit in, then force you to interact with it and basically give you no options other than being nice.

Yeah, this is all pretty telling. When someone has to jump on social media to defend their message/cause/whatever, it's a pretty bad look.

If you truly want Musk and others to shut up, then let your game do all the talking. That's why "show, don't tell" is a proper saying. Jumping online instead of letting your game do all the heavy lifting shows a colossal amount of insecurity about yourself and your game's development.
