This is just further evidence that EA was trying to replicate Apex's success with BF2042.
Speaking of which, that tweet in my post mentions how it'll be a "bit toned down" version of Caustic's clown skin from Apex, yeah?

Here's what Caustic's clown skin looks like:

So now imagine a "bit toned down" version of that.

Well we don't really know that, I'd argue in the past EA has listened to lots of feedback.

BF4 rushed to launch with new systems and had server issues,

BF hardline delayed

BF 2042 skipped new systems.

Battlefront 1 had tons of DLC, Battlefront 2 had free DLC, same with Titanfall 2

So they have a history of listening to that feed back and some other title adjusting to something that was done prior, which is why after BF4, we never really had that same type of server issue where you couldn't get into a game, we had issues, but nothing like BF4 though, regardless..I believe they will simply make Specialist optional and simply add on the class stuff like you see in BFV as that actually already exist in 2042 in Portal, it would simply be a update to make that the default in the whole game. Locking abilities to them would be a breeze tbh

I also believe you'll see them make the 75 weapons all available in 2042's base modes.

It's why they tapped the guy who made Apex Legends. They're not going back to Battlefield. The executives listen to the shareholders, who want that hero shooter, battle royale type money.

I know, Caustic has a Santa skin too lol.

None of this belongs in this game imo.

Except you can have Specialist that are optional and still do that....

So if they wanted Battle Royale, why did this game not ship with a BR mode?

So its clear simply based on the updates, the fact that you see larger maps, higher player count, a return to bots, server option, no BR....they are factoring in something here man, all you have is a fucking tweet guessing something when lots of real actions show what they listen to and what they don't. EA over the generations especially last generation doesn't really do iron clad features...as in they don't just do 1 thing forever, its why BF4 was rushed to launch, yet Hardline was delayed, BF1 had DLC paid for and folks cried over it, Battlefront 2, BFV thus had free DLC, folks cried about BR, 2042 doesn't have BR, we have a real fucking cause and effect to say what they generally do and what I've see is they will react to what players say, if they didn't we'd just have smaller maps, no destruction, BR modes galore, paid DLC in terms of maps etc

The man who fucking made Apex, also fucking made Titan Fall, Star Wars Fallen Order, Call Of Duty, Medal Of Honor etc, but hey...lets cherry pick Apex to force a narrative...-_-

So they can still have them optional, get that skin money, do a free to play that has them as the main thing or something and keep that seperate from the regular BF titles and have their cake and eat it too, I don't even know why you tried to force this either or shit as if they couldn't do both, even though the BF series has literally had several side games by other studios, why did you make it sound like they are not "going back to Battlefield" when its clear several studios are working on the IP and it could just be split into something else? smh.

Enough exist to show us what they might do and what they listen to and what they don't. I see no reason to guess BR shit when the game didn't launch with it and they easily could have just did the same mode they had with BFV if they really wanted it THAT badly. I can only go on historically how EA behaves vs some fucking tweets and guesses, they have a history of changing things over time if they don't work, the fact that theses changes in leadership are happening clearly means they might not agree with how things are currently going, thus this whole Hero shooter by default sounds unlikely, it does how ever sound like they will be used differently in other BF projects vs forced by default. For all you know they are using that Portal data to even see how the community really feels about being forced to use them and how the majority interact with the old class system vs the hero shit. I feel they should just leave it optional like in BFV and get the best of both worlds

That guy has all the direct inside information. And it’s clear what they’re doing and why they picked who they did. You’re the only one continuously speculating in ways to comfort yourself.

They’ll add some things players are asking for in 2042 to try and salvage some good will and customers. But the future of the franchise is certain.

That guy has all the direct inside information.

Yet things clearly change.....EA doesn't really do ironclad things anymore, to why this game didn't have a BR mode.

it’s clear what they’re doing and why they picked who they did.

lol, oh its "clear" lol Zero evidence, simply states "its clear" based on not having shit to really back any of that up. He worked on more IP that are NOT Apex, then just Apex, the last thing they did wasn't even Apex lol You just WANT that to be the narrative, it would be like saying it will be like Star Wars or it will be like Titan Fall or it will be like Medal Of Honor, oh my evidence? Oh its "clear bro" it will be a Medal of Honor clone cause.........its clear lol

Come on man, you need a bit more then that as it sounds like you want that to be the case more then anything is really proving it to be the cause. How come Star Wars Fallen Order wasn't a fucking APEX clone? I mean shit "it's clear why they picked who they did" right? Are you 100% sure about that? So they went from Medal Of Honor, Call Of Duty, Titan Fall, Apex, Star Wars etc The closest thing you've ever got to them doing an IP like the last was from Medal Of Honor to Call Of Duty, nothing else suggest Titanfall will be in Star Wars, Star Wars will be in APEX, Apex and Star Wars will be in Battlefield. You want to connect those dots with basically nothing...

They’ll add some things players are asking for in 2042 to try and salvage some good will and customers. But the future of the franchise is certain.

Nahhhh NOTHING is "certain" with this. Many where also fucking certain that EA would have a paywall for maps, yet they didn't, pay wall for specialist, they didn't, would have BR mode, they didn't, would launch BF with new consoles, they didn't...yet when all that happened...more goal post where made to then argue some shit like "is certain" ok Burger, many where not correct on that shit before as I don't think EA makes ironclad moves, as to why those changes got made in the first place and that more evidence suggest they will continue to change vs stay the same regardless.

You’re the only one continuously speculating in ways to comfort yourself.

Nope. I'm using what they did in the past. The only fucking thing certain is that they will change based on reception, feed back etc.

As to why we went from BFs that didn't get delayed, to them being delayed, to paid maps, to free maps, to Single player in BF to be like Call Of Duty, to just MP only again, from small maps, back to big maps, from BR, to no BR, to bots, to no bots to back to bots again lol Shit even Dragon Age removed that MP mode and is now next gen only, as in nothing is fucking "certain" with this publisher...you just want to to be to cry about shit, yet when they actually do change something, the goal post changes too lol =)

2042 is nothing but trash.

It's hilariously sad to read about "EA is listening, you guys just need to wait!". Bruh. People were waiting for BF4 sequel since its release on fucking PS3. Now some say that we should "just play custom games in Portal". How about NO lmao.

Here's what it looks like we're going to be seeing 'soon' (by and throughout season one and two):

- Adding minor things to BF2042 people have been begging for / complaining is missing: scoreboard, all chat, voice chat, larger parties, more gunzzz, more destructible structures, a change in tone for the specialists
- A few maps that are properly designed

Long term, the Halo guy's new Seattle studio will be handling single player experiences. If I had to guess, in the form of stand alone experiences similar to Hardline. Zampella will be spearheading what I mentioned before..

Remember, even in the midst of utter failure executives always believe they're right. So, they are probably saying to themselves "Our vision works, players love it! We just didn't quite get it right. So let's double down on it with some fresh leadership...". Which means they're going to go all in with the specialists, and the tone is about to get even cringier. That's my guess anyways.

And as the insider said, a hero shooter with a battle royale mode. Those are the trends Zampella will be chasing for EA, as he expanded the genre with the surprise hit of Apex Legends.

I'm only looking forward to what the Halo dude is working on. I have no hope they'll ever develop another true Battlefield ever again, and even if they patch up BF2042 with needed content and features, it's essentially not a BF game at its core.

I agree with most of that as a lot of that is a easy fix and more so inevitable, like you'll likely see them just allow all 75 guns playable on all modes as....well its 2042 and I'm sure those guns would still exist lol However I disagree on the structures, I believe if anything that is more so a wish then something I see EA changing or something, shit I wish that was the case, but from what I've read years ago..they designed BF even Bad Company to have destruction limited to certain things based on design, as in even in Bad Company, updates were made to move Mcom stations and make structures that couldn't be knocked down based on simply fairness or to keep the map competitive or something.

Though I could be wrong, if they are willing to move entire control points cause they feel something is unfair (which has happened in the past too) I feel maybe they might allow more structures to go down as its clear its not a impossible thing, simply done for design reasons.

a hero shooter with a battle royale mode.

Maybe, they might do some Free to play with all of that, but I believe a lot of that remains to be seen.

I'm only looking forward to what the Halo dude is working on

I'm just the opposite, I have no hope for what ever the fuck that is lol Everyone tried to do some single player thing for BF and it just never works.

it's essentially not a BF game at its core.

Large maps, vehicular combat, capturing points, ability to heal, revive, give out ammo etc I'd say that is the core of BF's concept. 2042 needs a ton work, but its concept is intact. We've heard that dramatic "oh its not BF anymore woe is me" a bit too much, we've heard that shit since Bad Company. Be like "Single player game? NO PRONE, NO PC version...? well...BF is dead folks...DEAD TO DA CORE" lol Once you get into the whole "true Battlefield" or "not the Battlefield I feel in LOVE WITH" or "NOT MY BATTLEFIELD" or "not the Battlefield I said my vows to" etc, its hard for folks to take the view seriously, as if you alone know da TRUE Battlefield....its not that deep. It starts to fall into a zealot fanfiction type of situation where you um..."love" of some past game has you simply hate anything new, keep in mind I agree with lots of your criticisms and like lots of the older Battlefields too, but new features and changes are just as much part of the BF DNA as its original concept.

They went from 1942 to Vietnam, Modern warfare, from that to fucking 2142 future shit, to no prone, single player having Bad Company lol They've been all over the place and I'd argue that sorta is the core of BF, to actually not sit still and JUST do the same shit, they didn't before and I don't expect them to now tbh. You could have argued that same exact thing then ie "essentially not a BF game" RIGHT after 1942, so i'd say you are best to just leave the IP if you are expecting the same shit copy and paste, they've never done that to expect that

Listen...I've been a Battlefield fan from the start. Cringe inducingly cliche to say but it's true. 1942 on I've got every game day one, as it was by far my favourite multiplayer shooter. Im heavily invested in this series, I love it. I love it so much, but 2042 has me shook I'm not going to lie. It's the first game in the series I did not get day one, but fine whatever I was always planning on getting it cause wtf man it's Battlefield. But as time has gone on from launch, and I learn more and more about the game I just don't know anymore. I'm not even going to reiterate it because everyone knows by now.

And the I come across this..

Battlefield-2042-Santa-Clause-Skin-Boris.jpg

What the fuck is this. What jn the ever loving fuck js this. Of all things I've seen regarding this game that goes against EVERYTHING Battlefield is, this is the most egregious example I've seen that this just isn't Battlefield anymore. I don't know what it is, but it just isn't Battlefield anymore. And it's such a bummer. I guess it was a good run all these years and I should just move on but it's hard to not be bummed out at what the very blatantly obvious direction the series is moving towards.

I'm a suckered so I'll still evetlntually pick this up, albeit at a discounted price I'm sure, but it's still a downer to see how this is all shaking out.

Your entire rant could've been saved by doing 5 minutes of Google research to find out that the skin was restricted to a portal exclusive game mode for the holidays.

But yea sure give yourself a brain aneurysm cause one character can look like Santa in one optional timed game mode that you can 100% avoid that in the end never even made it into the game

I honestly didn't realize the gaming community was filled with such mentally sensitive children, fuck me I hope these people don't have kids or choose to never have them if they get this shaken up over a video game character dressing up as a fictional holiday icon.

That "rant" was akin to having an aneurysm to you?

fuck me I hope these people don't have kids or choose to never have them

But for real though, you're so overly sensitive about someone's opinion on the game that you're first instinct is to start spitting vitriol like that? All I did was outline why the changes to the core structure of the game add up to a distinct change in how Battlefield operates, up to and including having a Santa claus skin for some odd reason. The simple fact that they went this far with the outfit perfectly encapsulates how much the design philosophy behind the game has veered off somewhere else. Being restricted to a portal exclusive game mode doesn't change the fact that it's a massive tonal shift. Imagine having something like that in Battlefield 2 or 1943, it would be so far out of left field compared to the overall tone of the game.

When I presented my opinion I didn't say fuck the developers, or even that the game should be changed or is shitty, I simply put out what is disappointing to me, that the series may be going in a direction that isn't what I'm looking for in Battlefield.

And you're going to get this upset over it? For real? You were presented with a brief, benign opinion and went from 0 to 11 at the drop of the hat. You reacted as if you've got ptsd from all the negative press the game has received thus far or something.

"Triggered" is the word I believe the kids use these days to describe your reply, if Im not mistaken.

Whether the silly cosmetics were pulled or not (I was aware that they were, I have Twitter and read Reddit), their very existence and attempt to be introduced - in any mode (they showed up as unlocks in the main mode, BTW, prior to being pulled) - was a visually symbolic example of how out of touch the previous designers were. I say previous, because according to all of the news coming out of EA and DICE, the people who were behind these goofy cosmetics, things like removing the scoreboard and all chat to spare gen Z fragile feefees, are all gone now.

I uninstalled the game so I can't check personally, but that's what happened according to Twitter, PC Gamer, and other sources I've read. Well, at least the Santa one. I don't know if they kept Woody.
Youre right. I googled it. Santa got pulled and DICE responded on Twitter that they didnt intend on releasing Santa to begin with as they got other priorities.

In response to your first comment, I was being hyperbolic but I'll expand on this below...

You're doing the classic "I came in really hot but now I am going to attempt to appear really level headed and paint you as the crazy one" approach which is dumb but anyways. You made your position in the beginning as this long time fan of the Battlefield franchise which is fine but then you posted the picture and apparently if this one skin is in the game (it isn't) that alone will make you stop playing this long time franchise that you have so faithfully been a fan of. Saying such dramatic things like "I guess it was a good run after all these years", like yea, I think you're being a giant child over something so minor that AGAIN doesn't even exist. That alone kinda shocks me that such a long time fan of the series didn't even take the 5 minutes to go and and verify the information before coming in here and making the post you did about how a potential holiday skin for one character in the game is the most egregious thing that goes against EVERYTHING that the BF franchise stands for and then you try and spin it like I am the one that is triggered, l...o...l.

So no I am not upset, you are yet one of many in the last couple of days who jumped on the bandwagon to lose their minds over something on the internet concerning something that doesn't even exist because on the internet it's all about REACT before THINK. It's less about you having issues with the game, look at my previous post and see that I have many, it's just tiring seeing people show up and essentially regurgitate the same shit yet can't take the time to verify information and need others to apparently do it for them. Also maybe the never have kids comments was slightly out of line but to be fair if this really ruffles your feathers that much maybe consider a cat.

Let's not pretend that (not) including some silly skins would make this thing any less of a disaster to the Battlefield franchise. It is becoming more and more obvious they intend to double-down on the operator gameplay and push for further "hero" shooter transition.
This is where I bid my farewell, since this could not be further from what made this series great and why fans have stayed loyal through all these years.

Youre right. I googled it. Santa got pulled and DICE responded on Twitter that they didnt intend on releasing Santa to begin with as they got other priorities.

I understand there is a lot of planning involved for games but for the love of God did no one stop and say "Holy shit this game is in trouble pull the plug on everything else and lets get this fixed"?

I mean obviously they didn't and even made excuses to get this bad product out the door

I am just so tired of broken buggy ass games that are full priced works in progress lets fix it as we go when about every person who spent any time in the beta knew the game was in trouble yet we were given the whole "this build is months old" song and dance

Technical problems yes. This one has identity problems that alienate the fanbase and probably won't be fixed.

Categorize / restrict all the gadgets by class, similar to how all the specialists are already categorized and no ones alienated anymore.

The goofy Apex skins and post game quirps gotta go tho.

Having a hard time figuring out which smg I enjoy running with Falck. Been trying the MP9 and it's fun but I feel like once I get the K30 I'm just gonna dump it (currently level 39).

I’m coming in to say, for whatever it’s worth, that in spite of the issues with the game I’m having fun with it. Been playing BF since BF4 and I’ve endured the ups and downs. I’m apprehensive of the future that the company tweeted out for the franchise, but hopeful for continued improvements on 2049. I’m finding my groove in this newer more hectic version and adjusting my style to better suit that, but that’s a fun challenge to me.

Your lack of reading comprehension certainly explains your ridiculously emotional response to my original comment. I made a point of saying (as) "I learn more and more about the game I just don't know anymore. I'm not even going to reiterate it because everyone knows by now.", I wasn't going to go through the litany of changes made to 2042 since they've been discussed ad nauseum already, I then brought up the outfit as the perfect visual representation of how far the tone of the series has changed. My opinions weren't based simply on the outfit, it's very obvious from both my comments that isn't the case. But hey, you're all fired up cause people are complaining about the game and went off the handle.

But yes, keep ignoring everything Ive said and try to make it like the outfit is my only issue.

And even then, as I explained, "issue" may not even be the right word. "Not what I'm looking for in the series" is probably more apt, again I never said the game is shit, or the developers are shit, I merely explained how this just isn't what I want from a Battlefield game.

But yes, I'm a child for voicing an opinion with a few swear words in it.

So no I am not upset

I honestly didn't realize the gaming community was filled with such mentally sensitive children, fuck me I hope these people don't have kids or choose to never have them if they get this shaken up over a video game character dressing up as a fictional holiday icon.

Yes, that's a rational response showing you are not "upset" over an opinion that doesn't align with yours. This is exactly how an adult, not a child, would respond to someone's opinion about a videogame.

And you can keep moving the goalposts and say "they aren't releasing it!" as much as your little heart desires, but that doesn't change the fact that someone was paid to design and finalize that outfit, with the full intention of having it released before EA walked the decision back after it saw the reaction to it. And even then, I didn't shit on the game or call for people on the team to be fired or whatever. It's their game, their ip, they have every right to move the game forward in whatever direction they choose to...

All I ever said was that the game isn't Battlefield to me, that it's moving in a direction that doesn't jive with what I'm looking for.

And still you'll have the complete lack of self awareness to reply to me like this..

I honestly didn't realize the gaming community was filled with such mentally sensitive children, fuck me I hope these people don't have kids or choose to never have them if they get this shaken up over a video game character dressing up as a fictional holiday icon.

..and turn around and act like I'm some frothing lunatic.

It's ok, no one is taking the videogame away from you. You still have it and have every right to enjoy it, I never said otherwise. And don't worry, it appears EA is going balls deep with this fortnight-is hero character battle royal type game in the future, and I hope you enjoy yourself with it to be honest.

But you really need to grow up and understand that the world isn't an echo chamber, that others have differing opinions. That others will voice those opinions, sometime they will voice them in toxic vitriolic ways. Sometimes they'll be voiced passionately, but in the end the sooner you realize the world isn't going to conform to your nice neat little bubble and think exactly like you do the better off you'll be trust me.

You'll certainly be in a much healthier state of mind where someone saying a game is no longer for them doesn't result in you instantly frothing at the mouth and lashing out. I'm kinda done derailing the thread with trying to unravel your lunacy, I'm moving on.

All I ever said was that the game isn't Battlefield to me, that it's moving in a direction that doesn't jive with what I'm looking for.

And still you'll have the complete lack of self awareness to reply to me like this..

..and turn around and act like I'm some frothing lunatic.

You are hilarious, you're a collection of conflicting ideas bashing against each other. Also you say you don't want to derail the thread yet your original post is again you posting a picture of something that was already debunked a day or two prior so you already did the very thing you claim you don't want to do. Also there's threads discussing the skin alone if that was the catalyst for your frustration or anger towards this particular game where you could've discussed it but no you chose the OT to air your laundry.

I agree though we shouldn't keep going back and forth, it's pointless. But please understand I have zero issue with people having problems with this game or any game. Check my post history concerning this exact game where I've discussed my issues with it and will continue to do so because there remains problems with the game.

But this is the OT, a place for people who are playing the game currently to discuss it now and moving forward, it's rather pointless for people to dip in and make their one post about how shit it is using one reason as the main focal point when that reason was already debunked. If you can't understand that then oh well.

Hope you find something else you enjoy and a thread you can actively engage in rather than shit up one when you're not even playing said game that the OT is based on.

Maybe i'm stupid but what settings gets rid of the automatic camera pan when driving vehicles from third person? Everytime I turn to left or right the effing camera does a quick pan to the direction i'm turning. I dont have view buttons binded so that shouldnt be it. :S

my favorite "only in Battlefield" moments are when you shoot at a guy with an assault rifle and hit him with 3 bursts, he turns around, you're now reloading, and he lasers you in 2 shots with an smg from 500 meters. super awesome.
This happens way too often to me. I really don't know if it's broken lag compensation or just terrible net code but it's unacceptable.

Are there more things you want us to stop talking about because it doesn't fit your narrative? Specialists perhaps? Wallhack gadgets? Post game quips?
Cry all you want about missing features or stuff that is in game you dont like. Why would you keep bitching about something that is confirmed to not be in the game unless you are just a troll?

Agreed, but I feel people like this can't be helped.

Will state its wrong to be in the game (never added)
Then will state EA should listen to fans (they did when it wasn't added)
Then will state.....well it should have not be considered (continues to go in circles to cry)

I've seen this over and over with the gaming community and I always wonder if what is being stated is even REALLY believed by them. They'll move on to the next goal post and only acknowledge when something is a hot take or something to bitch about.

You'll get more videos and comments about the skin almost being in the game, then you'll get on the choice to remove it, listening to fans etc.

Most people just like to shit on stuff they dont like to waste time because they dont have anything else to do, and being constructive is way too hard.

This game was being shit on before the beta. DICE butchering the launch gave these malcontents exactly what they wanted. It is what it is.

I'll save the benefit of the doubt to companies that deserve it. Look at the marketing to see what they're trying to pull here. How they deliberately obfuscated game mechanics and characters until the very last moment, through the beta even, just to avoid this controversy pre release.

PS5 first time playing since the update: two rounds, two crashes.

Anyone else noticing increased crashes on PS5?

It seems clear to me dice is balancing complaints and the game is damaging the brand they’re balancing and engaging with last generation.

Vehicle loadout still resets quite often which is annoying. I need to remind myself to check each time I start the game up. Grabbing a vehicle without Repair when vehicles are already made of paper is not a good time.

Also Sundance does NOT need 3 types of grenades. Remove her anti-vehicle and that would be fine.

Game appears to increase RAM usage the longer you play it on PS5. I played for 3h straight and the PS5 menu was slow as hell. It reminded me of the slow PS4 days. I couldn't even open the menu to close the app.

My current issues post patch 3:

- dead enemies remaining on the Battlefield usually in a upright position. I always shoot at them which gives away my position sometimes getting me killed.

-no scoreboard

-low fps animations leading up to match start, not a massive deal but from a presentation standpoint it looks bad and is a bit jarring.

-rubber banding when getting shot by vehicles is simply God awful. I think its tied to the 30m cannon. Probably my biggest complaint lumped in with how strong the Bolte is currently cause they go hand in hand.

-this one is less of a complaint and more of something I hope they change. Emp grenades impact should last for just a couple seconds longer.

-change around some spots on breakthrough for the attacking side cause they're laughably bad. Rush on 2042 maps even kinda is suffering due to this on a couple maps.

-they have to reward xp to players who assist in the majority of destruction to vehicles. It's defeating to get a tank down almost to no health and then someone comes along and destroys it and you get no xp for your troubles.
