in other cycling x fashion, acceptable to wear the rainbow stripes if off the bike?

Anyone here looking forward to the JW anderson X uniqlo collab? Definitely grabbing a trenchcoat at least. Not usually a scarf guy but might get one just to complete the look.

You look pretty level. One thing you can try is going one degree up or down on seat angle. But other factors could be reach: if you're too stretched out or high on the seat it will cause your hips to rotate forward and apply pressure.

You also didn't specify exactly where pressure is. Gooch means different things to different people

i sorta like that part about it

I'm up during the week at 5:00 so it's just normal now, but nothing beats getting an hour or two on the roads entirely to yourself before the world wakes up.

Cheeky early-morning 25 miler around the woods today, making the most of the fine weather. Just about perfect conditions for biking: good light, warm but not too warm, soft ground, no wind. My first ride in three weeks, i think.

@Gray Matter: Why are you starting out so early?

I get it in the winter when there's a shortage of light, but you could head out at midday and still get an 8 hour ride in at the moment.

Winter though... ugh.

you really have to beat the sun in most parts of the world

the sooner you start, the better

Again though, most people aren't pushing 8+ hour rides.

I get it when I'm driving somewhere for mountain biking and then doing 10-12 hours, but not walking out your front door, swinging your leg over and knocking out 6 hours and finishing back at home.

I went riding in Spain a few weeks back, couldn't rent the bike till 9 and I wanted six hours of riding, never again I'll pay for two days rental and get up at 5 it just became to hot to deal with Andy ended up in a bar.

Well, during the summer months mainly to try and finish before midday, where it would the hottest, the rest of the times it's because that when the bike shops around me start their rides, and for some of those I have to drive 10-15 minutes to get there.

Where I am on the NE Coast of the US between 11 and 3 are the worst times to be in the sun because it's when it's at it hottest. Combine that with the summer humidity and being out past 11 can be really rough on the right day. Consider too on the road you're not moving non-stop so that 2-3 hour ride can be more like 4-5 hours outside total.

Why aren't you moving non stop? At worst you're dealing with 30 second stops at lights no? That's really not much difference to dealing with gates on an off road ride.

But yeah, overwhelming heat isn't something we need to generally worry about in the UK. :D

Right... some food then onto the trainer to see how badly two weeks off the bike has fucked me up.

I've gone for long rather than particularly hard, but I have a feeling it's going to wreck me anyway.

Me again with a noob question, this time about break pads.

Need some new pads soon-ish and was wondering, are all pads the same? If not, what are some good ones for a decent price.

i'm honestly looking forward to taking a week or two off the bike

edit: and you can't go wrong with swisstop brake pads. just be cautious on whether the pads are designed for aluminum or carbon rims.

Blech, first session done. 2 hours, sweetspot.

Did at 90% intensity. Probably could have done 95% I reckon, but that's not how you work back into this shit. Quite a lot of groin numbness, which is unusual.

It's sunny out, but I still CBA riding (plus, only my trail bike is actually built right now). Going to head into the dungeon later and knock out a couple of hours on the trainer whilst watching a film.

Edit - Unrelated, have been looking at events for next year, and wow, there are some incredible ones out there. From the beautiful, to the absolutely beastly.

The Grand Raid BCVS (Switzerland) - 78 miles, 15,480 feet

HERO Südtirol Dolomites (Italy) - 53 miles, 14,765 feet

Azores MTB Marathon (Portugal) - 48 miles, 6,800 feet (Not much of a challenge, but very cool location)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EotN9WxOF6E

Salzkammergut (Austria) - 130 miles, 23355 feet (lawl, plus you only have 16 hours to complete)

So why did the other three catch your attention only one of those looks gruelling enough for you...

no it's not Azores MTB marathon

The dolomites ride looks incredible, scenery wise, and the Grand Raid has been recommended by a ton of people, which means there must be something special about it.

Had my first fall from my bike since...middle school. Stupid, really. Just 10mph on a flat stretch of paved trail. Handlebars just decided to go sideways. All the regular road rashes on the left side of my body.

Any recommendations on affordable cycling gloves? Want to avoid the easy gouging my hand suffered.

Interesting you bring this up, on the last Vuelta stage they were discussing on the NBC commentary that you wear gloves for safety and not comfort, which is something I had somehow never considered, despite owning many pairs of motorcycle gloves with various safety features (palm sliders, etc.).

What's affordable for you? I have been using these this year, really liking them. They are comfortable on my hands, the gel things seem to do something so helps on shitty roads I feel. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/endura-fs260-pro-aerogel-mitt-ii-2017/rp-prod112413

Take it from someone that does 12hr+ rides, there are very few gloves better than the FS260, especially if you currently suffer from hand numbness.

Occasionally when I get on the Miyata 710, it feels like the saddle has magically become slightly low or something.

Hmm...

I should probably mark the post.

I get significant numbness issues with padded gloves. For road riding, I usually use full-finger MTB gloves.

I wish I was wearing my armoured full-fingers at the weekend - I've been picking microscopic thorns out of my knuckles for the past few days. It feels like I punched a cactus.

oh man, the bike I want, wont be here before november, mayber even december.
now I don't know if I should wait.
could be, that the delivery time gets even larger when I wait with ordering..

Interesting... I'm slowly working back into my training and it seems that I have access to my higher heart rates again. Back towards the end of my last training block I couldn't get above 171 and when I was around that, I felt like I was dying.

Today I was at 178 and felt pretty good. I guess I must have been overtrained before, which is odd, because I was doing HRV measurements every morning and nothing was obvious.

Glad to hear performance is coming back... Next is power right ;)
