Black myth: Wukong has broken all time concurrent player number record for a single-player game on Steam

"I was completely devastated that all my investigative work on Black Myth: Wukong was for nothing"

When are they ever going to learn how little their opinion matters? 99% of gamers don't care, aren't aware, or actively want to do the opposite of what these journalists tell them.

Also fucking lol.

It, like the SBI conspiracy theory, is fake. That quote on resetera doesn’t exist.

Gachas and f2p are very popular in China and, guess what, everyone has been trying that exact strategy for years and failing most of the time since GAAS are hard markets to breakthrough to begin with.
In western hemisphere it's mostly true, simply because they are not really trying.
In eastern hemisphere there are some new players every year (Mihoyo was nobodies until 5 years ago, Shift Up is 2 years, Kuro games 5/2 years, PW is 2 years in mobile, Hypergryph 4 years etc)

Are you telling me PUBG utilized the same business models and strategies as Black Myth? Gachas and f2p are very popular in China and, guess what, everyone has been trying that exact strategy for years and failing most of the time since GAAS are hard markets to breakthrough to begin with.
Because these greedy bastards have no idea why gatcha games are good.

Those games have a good gameplay value, even if they are heavily p2w. Even a city building p2w is better than crap arena shooter.

Mihoyo has been a pioneer in many aspects, elevating mobile gaming with Honkai Impact 3rd, and encouraging new devs to enter the arena with bigger budgets and more ambitious projects. Korean and Chinese devs can see the obvious: the west is creatively bankrupt and Japan somehow is falling behind budget-wise.

Chinese can't make a GTA due to censorship but koreans have no boundaries and it's just a question of time that they make their own COD or GTA to appeal global market. Not being burdened by diversity hires and policies is a hell of an advantage.

Might be fake, but I don’t know if it was real and got removed either. I’ve seen posts of her mentioning she’s getting harassed, where she kinda QQs anyway.

It’s probably fake, people love stirring shit up on the internet for drama. Like the SBI story, widely shared on Twitter, no actual news source.

I really don't understand what people talking about there about "politics" in Wukong and Chinese media in general
Wukong literally starts with "corrupt government" (and it's actually contrary to original story where Jade Emperor is righteous and his court is proper)
Their general guidelines is the same as I would like to see in any product - be honest, be humble, be polite (like 7 virtues from bible) and anything that considered harmful (excessive sex or wealth, abuse of power etc) should be portrayed negative.
China has Donghuas which have 10s or even 100s millions views per week that portray evil and corrupt governments as antagonist, so they for certain not so insistent on censure, just made a proper focus what is good and what is bad
I agree Comrade, + 1,000 social credit for you. Chairman Xi approves! 👍

So… is this game good? Cause it looks like God of War 1 gameplay.
It seems so if you like boss rush games, and don’t focus too much on a bit disjointed story and some early technical hiccups.

Personally I am going to give it a few months to get patched up as I am not a huge fan of Boss Rush games. On the other hand I do like Journey to the West adaptations.

Stirring shit up is a criminal offense in China. We can write FUD articles and fake news all we like but over there the perpetrator may get a ban or something worse.

So whoever thinks that a national Chinese would lie as easily as the likes of IGN, Kotaku or your average youtuber is delusional. Not saying that the SBI is true without evidence to support it, but it's unlikely that someone from China would make that up.

Even so, the fact of digging up shit a decade old and then harassing the studio is the first step of extortion. It's just missing the money request.

The only evidence of that SBI story originated from a Weibo post. Go ahead, try and find any statement or news article collaborating the story.

Also Chinese citizens lie and spread fake news on social media all the time, especially when it comes to anything that throws aspersions at the West. China being this bastion of honesty doesn’t reflect the real world.

Well that's your average consulting firm. They ask $$$ for their services. This is absolutely not limited to Sweet Baby.
Except they don’t know shit and their CEO is a ho bitch just like everyone in that company.

They tell devs to have women with dicks and guys with purple hair in their games along with all the alphabet letters for 8 millions.

And if the devs don’t want to, They trash their game with their keyboard warriors and Twitter accounts to tarnish the game.

Lowest of the scum of a company. Firm my ass

I’m only 5 hours in but far it’s fantastic. Like, my GOTY. It’s not a boss rush game as some reported, there are plenty bosses fairly close but lots regular enemies too. Plays a bit like a souls game, you read enemy attacks and time your dodges, you get flasks to increase damage negation and ither things, there is a skill tree and you get new abilities and spells as the game progresses. It’s not as open as a Souls game and you have invisible walls but some areas are fairly open or have lots of paths to take.

Haven’t seen much of the over-arching story yet but it’s based on a well-known story and follow it close enough that one of my kids who has seen some TV-Show seem to know a lot about it.

On PC if you have good hardware there us no technical problems, runs well, looks amazing, no crashes.

I would say, if you have any interest at all it’s worth experiencing it. For me it has been better than expected. It just plays super well and the bosses are cool and the skill tree is more complex than I thought it would be. My only real problem right now is invisible walls, I don’t like that, put up a real wall if I’m not supposed to go that way.

-Posts misinformation and calls a game "sexist" on an official article of one of the biggest news websites
-Hasn't played the game (“I haven’t played it” “I have no idea”)
-Has no idea who or how the devs are
-Begs people (resetera) for a few extra clicks

True, but at a time when there is so much pushback against DEI and companies like SBI, from gamers all around the world, a game company pretending that they were victims of extortion from SBI, is a master stroke in marketing.
Wukong was getting a lot of attention before all this drama, but after that, it went into overdrive. All of a sudden, everyone was talking about this game.

I don't know if you remember, but back in the 90's, many music bands were trying hard to get the "Parental Advisory" label on their albums, because it made them look more edgy and subversive, which appealed to teen audiences.
Maybe gamming studios should start putting a label on their covers, saying "No SBI involved", to push more sales.

I see she is pretending to laugh with the lol in her comments, then proceeds to hide like a coward locking her Twitter account and crying at the success of the game, instead of taking the heat for the mistranslation/misinformation and running away instead of apologizing.

All her "journalistic" efforts to uncover the truth (lol) of the sexism in the studio's culture amounted to less than nothing. Nobody gave a single fuck about her articles.

Not sure what else people need to see before they realize that these people hate gamers and their entire goal is to completely eradicate anything that doesn't fit their (mentally ill) worldview... and not just when it comes to gaming, BTW.

Also, whether most of the players are from China or not is irrelevant. At the end of the day this boycott failed in epic fashion.

I'm so confused as to why literally ANYONE cares that many of the players are from China. Why does that matter?
