Black Myth: Wukong helped SONY recover all the money they lost with Concord. Even if it is $200M or $400M they already made that back

How much does it cost to list a game on the PS store? 30% for each sale right? Sure, seems like the Concord loss hasn't hurt them too badly when you look at the books overall.

What a load of rubbish, IGN doesn't know how much Concord cost or how much Wukong has made on PS5 but they come up with this clickbait.
I’m not saying you are wrong or that IGN is right or anything of the sort…. Not like I have a dog in this fight, anyway….. but…… wasn’t the general press saying this game costed what….. 200m…. 400M? I had to Google it.

I’m not disagreeing or trying to pick some kind of fight with you over what IGN does and does not know but lots of news sources posted the same thing as far as the cost so it’s sort of Genaro knowledge at this point…..

lol how, even if we go with that 700m number, and give PS a very generous 50% share from all sales, that's 350m from PS sales, which with the 30% store cut means 105m, that's nowhere near 200-400m..

Hence I'm thinking about either Genshin of Zenless Zone Zero, because these 2 games are pretty popular on Playstation, and they also always on the top 10 ranking in "Best Selling" category.

Hell, we already know from the past Insomniac Games leak that Genshin alone generates $1 billion in revenue for Sony during its first 2 years, so that's pretty much in line with the amount of money that were mentioned in this article.

That's called spin. They have to prove to their shareholders they aren't incompetent asshats who know what they're doing. Of course if a shareholder asks you're going to spin it as "Yeah concord sucked, but we made all this money with Black Myth Wukong so it's all good".

It's not spin, they're a publicly traded company. it's literally an earnings call where they have to explain where they lost money and where they made it.

So DEIn't subsidized DEI, like literally capitalism subsidizing socialist politics since forever. I mean, I don't believe it but it's funny that it would be the outcome by how cliché it looks.

If it was financial reporting it is appropriate to discuss both as shareholders will want to know how Sony is handling the massive loss from the firewalk acquisition, then closure with essentially a 100 % loss on that investment. Shareholders want to know things are stable and growth is happening.

Point to where Sony said that revenue from BMW covered the cost of making Concord.

Given Sony published Concord - meaning they book all of the loss themselves - against BMW's estimated Console / PC split and Sony only taking platform royalties from BMW, I'd imagine Concord's still pretty deep in the red for them. Not that it matters Sony; Sony's making more than enough to eat a few bombs. Hell, Xbox ate Halo Infinite's $500m budget after that game tanked and nothing really ch-- oh. Oh.

I just reread the article and want to speak on the meta issue.

Why the fuck is IGN more or less casting shade on Concord and boosting BMW?

Does that strike anyone else as a crazy 180?

Unless Sony communicated they wanted this as the narrative which I ain't seeing.

So yeah, IGN which was kind of scathing of BMW devs and sympathetic to Concord on each release, are now going out of their way to paint a narrative as one saving Sony and the other being a black hole?

That's weird for IGN to do unless there is changes in their management.

It's weird, this game feels like a true Sony's exclusive than other exclusives even though it isn't.

$200m revenue with 30% platform cuts equate to 11m copies sold on PS5 and $400m equals to 22m copies which is absurd based on sales data we got for BMW.

At this point 3-4 million units probably the best estimate for PS5 version.

Its not even a spin by IGN or Sony. The whole "Black Myth: Wukong helped SONY recover all the money that they lost with Concord." was added by a random redditor when he share the IGN link to reddit LMAO

I don't know shite about finances but Black Myth selling that much is bonkers for an unknown developer and IP. I know I will buy it eventually too. I just have too much on my plate right now.

Yes, the entertainment business works that way. Not everything will hit. It's the net total that matters.

Didn’t Wukong sell most of its copies on Steam since it’s something to the order of 70-80% being Chinese customers? And they don’t really buy many consoles.

Concord lost money for being a failure, but Wukong balanced things out for being a success?
It's a continuous investment, Sony didn't just have a $600M hole in their software financials that was filled by Black Myth Wukong.
In fact, even within first-party software revenue Concord barely made any difference, and it's actually up from Q2 of the previous FY.

If Im Sony I buy GameScience immediately. Invest in them like you did Bungie, skys the limit with these guys, that studio is pure young raw talent.

Also need that PS5 Pro patch immediately. stop being lazy

Why would they want to be acquired by Sony when the bulk of their revenue comes from PC, and when they’ll certainly not lack funding in the future?
