What build character would you recommend to a newbie to the souls games?

I would just recommend getting to the soft caps as fast as possible. In which order you do it is up to you. I'll probably switch between STR -> END -> VIT until I reach my soft breakpoints.

Souls threads here are traditionally a great resource for exchanging information and (spoiler-tagged) secrets and stuff, and just discussing the game in minute detail.

Every community has its warts but in my experience the Souls community is exceptionally welcoming and willing to help newcomers, so hopefully your introduction to the series will be a little smoother than otherwise.

Good to hear. I made the mistake of seeking help with Demon's outside of GAF (played it well after release) and the community was so shitty that I had to bail out. I loved the core combat but the obtuse nature of character building and many mechanics put me off. Bloodborne seems to alleviate that so I'm looking forward to tearing in.

Whichever class has the more well rounded stats, I'd say. Find out what you're good at and then develop those areas. Unless of course you already know what kind of game you'd like to play. If you want to strike quickly, go with Skill builds, otherwise Strength is for you. Choose your weapons accordingly, and you will probably want to avoid putting anything into Arkane for the time being.

I work at a bank as call center advisor, & the busiest week of the month is BY FAR from 24th-30th of each month, I always hated those days of the month...except for now. The game unlocks half an hour before my shift starts (I bought it off the US PSN store & it unlocks 7am local time), so instead of browsing this thread at work hating myself for not playing this game, I'll be busy dealing with whiny customers the entire day.

I just need to figure out a way to let the second day 1 patch start downloading while I'm at work so the game is ready to be played when I'm back.
