A buddy of mine pretty much buys games on hype and word of mouth. I don't think he visits any forums or does any research. So for him- (I consider him to be a casual gamer who's main hobby is playing games)- meta critic means shit to him. And I imagine the vast majority of console owners are like that. Casuals who buy games and play them based on what their friends are saying.

I convinced him to not buy AC: Unity, or at least do a bit of research before buying it. Then he bought the Order and told me he was surprised it was only like 6 hours. If he would have told me he was planning on buying it, I would have told him to read up on it first.

I think the reason we go to meta critic, and keep an eye on various media outlets for review scores, is that we are all savvy gamers. We want to avoid the crap, and buy what is good.

Look at all the people in this thread who don't even like Souls games wanting to buy Bloodborne just because it's meta critic score is 90's. It's kind of sad, but very telling of the way the industry is today. Great games are few and far between. When one comes along, people like us don't want to be left out.

Reviews don't matter to me in the long run. But I am glad all the critical acclaim it's getting because it can definitely help sales. And this game deserves to sell gangbusters. We need more games like this and less dudebro crap.

Too spoily to see it?

Nothing is shown for so long that it leaves a lasting impression, but it definitely shows bosses for a brief time, as well as some items and environments that you may not want to see until you get there yourself. For the bosses, I didn't see any of them use any special moves or what they evolve into- I think GT did a good job editing those parts.

Nope... just watched it and it doesn't spoil anything. Shows bosses but there's no context or explanation for any of the scenes... they speak purely on gameplay, feel, the mechanics, and touch lightly on the technical pieces. So no worries.

So far i'm incredibly hyped for this release. It seems like this game has a ton of things to do in it that it cannot be looked at as a simple rental. My gamefly copy comes in the mail soon (shipped yesterday) so i'm hoping it's a keeper.

I just swung by the GameStop near me and was shocked that at 1pm they only had 3 copies available for those that didn't preorder. Good thing I went by at 1pm, as I rarely preorder except from Amazon and had a GS gift card to burn.

I love the design of that. Give you
plenty of enemies and health items to incentivise staying in the action and keeping it fast pace, but they do give you items like the pebbles if you want to take it slower and pull.
I don't see how you can beat that encounter without pulling some foes or running past the enemies (which still amusingly works). If you try to fight them all at once, you're gonna be torn apart by the gunmen.

But yeah, it's a really well-designed encounter, with lots of ways to tackle it and a variety of hazards you have to pay attention to like
the gunman behind the corner, the fire, and the dog.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!

It's pretty much standard operating procedure for Gamestop to have almost no non-preorder copies of games available at launch.

I don't think its quite as reliable as all that. DriveClub and Destiny both seem to have sold well despite lacklustre reviews. And I'd guess The Order will have sold fairly decent, too. Hype and marketing can go a long way.

Yeah, I'd say metacritic score is only a subset of marketing and hype in general. There are plenty of counter examples of games that reviewed well and sold badly, and vice-versa.

I'm glad Bloodborne is reviewing well, though. If anything, it is the game that would make me buy a PS4.

I definitely pulled a few before rushing in there, but taking care of the gunman first is a priority. I was surprised at how much quicker I am than the enemies and it made the encounter go smoother. Also, they give you so many health items and the HP regen on hit mechanic so its not too big a deal if you take a few hits. Just keep going.

Just picked up my copy (Best Buy had close to a hundred copies behind the counter).

I never finished the first Dark Souls (let's face it, I don't have time to finish any games these days), but I wanted BB from the moment it leaked. I'm glad the critical reception is so high.

Please define how this could be a sleeper hit? It's received decent marketing, amazing reviews, and internet hype like crazy.

I think the sleeper sentiment and niche labels refer to the fact that the game doesn't have the traditional markings of mass appeal like a AAA series such as Creed, CoD, or even exclusives like Uncharted or Gears, but is garnering lots of attention and positivity regardless.

I saw another 0 review comment that was deleted, it was more straight forward:

" Mediocre **** for sony fanboys because they don't have games. I feel pity for them that don't have games so they need to cling to mediocre games. You are all vinrgins that need to get laid. "

And yeah it a direct copy paste, so that is all his spelling.

The only question I have now is... what's a vinrgin?

I don't get why people bother spending their time hating stuff they don't have. I don't think that's something I'll ever understand.

Mechanism people use to make themselves feel better by tearing down something that others may enjoy. Or just being a troll....my guess is troll.
