Can Nintendo turn Switch 2's pricing disaster around? And how?

Eventually I imagine they will have a cheaper Switch 2 Lite that lets lower income and younger players be able to get one as well. That's pretty much what they did with the original Switch. No price drop, but eventual cheaper model.
And true to the Nintendo tradition, it will feature a built-in CRT screen, after a "Lot of Consideration" of course.

hot take but £429 is a great price for the system and a game. it’s the £395 standalone that’s an absolute disaster.
£100 more than the launch price of the OLED Switch. For a console that is ten times more powerful and has Nvidia's AI DLSS, a larger screen, more memory, a cooling fan on the dock, And an oveall more premium feel. And that is not even taking inflation into account.

This sounds llike a steal to me.

Polygon put out an article about the 'C' button not working unless you pay for the Nintendo online sub. There's a lot of negativity with the price floating around. Nintendo seems to have this issue with secondary system versions lately (Wiiu/Switch2)

Remember in '96, the N64 was originally priced at $249 and was dropped to $199 a week or so before launch. Software prices may have been dropped to in the last minute, but I do not recall.
First generation releases were $65-$75 (Turok sold for an average of $77 at release [per NPD]) with $70 new releases lasting about a year after launch. Moving into Year 2 the average new releases ranged from $50-$65 (Diddy Kong Racing was only $50) and eventually declined to $50-$60 for new releases.

I would kill for this to happen.
Bring back the CRT, You want to offering me a stream of newly made CRTs int 2025? That would be a god send

So just to confirm, I could play 2 players or any game with co op on a single Switch 2 controller right? And this work with the controller that already comes with the base game without needing to buy a improve controller or anything like that?

UK and even EU pricing is decent especially with a pack in. US prices are going to be terrible. Probably $600 plus tax.

Edit: Swedish, Australian and Canadian bros got screwed as well.

What pricing disaster? Even at $500 or $600 this thing will consistently sell out for 6 months to a year. And if they're charging $80 for certain titles it's because they know the value of their top franchises. There is nothing else like Mario Kart, or Smash Bros, or Zelda. Those are games people buy and play for the entire span of the console's life. The only other publisher that could get away with that is probably Rockstar.

There is no disaster.

You couldn't buy an XBox Series X at list price for over a year because of scalpers.

You couldn't buy a PS5 at list price for over two years because of scalpers.

Nintendo wants the scalper money. They know this thing is going to be impossible to get in year one. Why feed the scalpers when Nintendo can pocket that money? Drop the price in year 2.

NeoGAF whiffed epicly on the Switch. You guys are doing the same for Switch 2. Total misreading of the market.

Console preorders selling out instantly what a disaster. 🙃

But if games are not selling, I imagine they will price drop them a little.

Honestly the switch 2 is going to do insanely well, you just have a loud vocal minority complaining about the price and the usual youtube clickbaiter.

Just remember the real reason for trophies and achievements. They are there to convince you there is more content in a game than there actually is. And to stroke your ego. ;)

Point taken but I generally dislike doing these comparisons as the cost of living and wages in each country are so radically different. Although both economies are probably all over the show right now.

God, all the salty threads dripping with Nintendo hate... 😅 I've rarely seen such meltdowns.

I'm not happy about the price but it's almost worth it just to see all these people who weren't going to buy the Switch 2 regardless of price, complain.

Yeah, Nintendo adding a physical button that’ll actually be useless once the Switch 2 servers are shut down seems super strange to me..

I think Nintendo feel the Switch format and online service will go on forever...... Switch 3 anyone?

1. I think the hardware is reasonbly priced, I'd glady pay $450 for it.
2. It's easy to change course on software pricing and I don't see that hurting them too much.. I'd like to see them drop the prices of games..however

I think the real discussion needs to be on the actual value of a game

GTA 6 is easily a $90 game
This does not mean an AC Shadows can suddenly try to be a $90 game

I'd like to think the market can decide what people are willing to pay.. if a game simply is not selling at the asking price they will be forced to lower it.
it's not like I have not obtained the majority of my $60 at $10 on steam sales.

It doesn’t. Hits like Doom Eternal, Pizza Tower, Grid Autosport and Another Crab’s Treasure don’t even start on the system.
Yeah. I was kind of worried about that. Might as well keep your Switch 1. It may be better to not migrate your account to the Switch 2, just add your account to it.
