HEY! Good luck, Man! I remember talking to you about doing the improv stuff awhile back! Glad to see it's starting to pan out for you. Make sure you post in here when your show is if you make it in! Have you done auditions for other theaters or other shows yet?

Thanks! I haven't really auditioned for any plays, since I want to just go the comedy route. If I don't make the conservatory this time, I might audition for the Writing 6 shows.

Wabash and Wacker.

This area is boring!

Are you fucking nuts? You're right smack in the middle of the action.

If you're looking for a nice selection of bars/pubs/restaurants, go North a couple blocks to Hubbard between Franklin and Michigan, tons of great places to go there. I used to go to Mother Hubbards all the time, awesome little sports bar. Also Rockit Bar & Grill is across the street, another must.

How is Humboldt Park as a neighborhood? I have to go over there for a tickets via Craigslist and I want to make sure I'm not going to get robbed or something

Be careful. It's improved greatly over the years, but be careful.

I'll be going early in the afternoon and gonna meet at a public place of some sort, so I should be fine. I didn't think of anything possibly being an issue until one of my buddies told me it might be a little rough of a neighborhood depending on where I go. The tickets are pretty expensive so that's why I was a little worried about the whole getting robbed thing, lol. It should be fine though

I live right down California from Kumas and I'm now prepared to say it's the most overrated burger in Chicago.

Granted, I live in Logan Square and would put Best Burger up to Rocking Horse, but still. Kuma's was good, but not THAT good.

yah, it was pretty good, but definately not the best burger I've had. I've been mainly wanting to go because of the whole metal atmosphere combined with food + beer selection.

Stuck around for another day, had Pequod's pizza, Jim's Original hot dogs, and some random coffee places. Spent most of my time in downtown Chicago, just like the last few times. A lot of people looked at me funny because I was still freezing in my leather jacket while Chicago natives are in t-shirts in 30 degree weather.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

Well, the thing with that gangs there. If you don't mess with them or their business, they will generally leave you alone.

Latin Kings, Maniac Latin Disciples, Spanish Cobras, I beleive are the major gangs in that area. But I think the hierarchy for those groups has been incarcerated or weeded out. But just a quick primer.

MLD and Spanish Cobras are friends. They both do not get along with the Latin Kings. MLD and SC are part of the Folks Nation and the Latin Kings are part of the Peoples Nation.

Just don't stare.

Are the Gaylords still around?

I carried my brass knuckles and had to use them only a few times. I got the tickets and I can't fucking wait (Seeing Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel in Milwaukee)

Of course I'd rather see him at the Chicago show but I could only get Milwaukee tickets. The Pabst Theater is supposed to be amazing so I'm excited

Oh shit. So jealous. :(

I completely screwed up getting those tickes. Oh well, he might tour again in 20 years or so. :.(

What happened? Also, check Chicago and Milwaukee Craigslist. There's some insane postings for 200 bucks a ticket but I got 2 for $150 thankfully today. There's still time!

Did you really have to beat someone up? lol

I'm staying at The Palmer House Hilton the first week in April. What am I looking at for temps? Much like Boston where it could be 40 degrees but also the outside chance of 65?
Going to NYC the first week of March. First time trips to these cities so I'll come back and post my impressions and vote a winner.

Anyone ever had Falcons pizza on the corner of Archer and California. This is by far the best pizza I have ever had. It is a bit pricey though but it is so worth it.

Having lived in the northern Chicago suburbs my whole life and transferring out to an Illinois university for school next year, what is everyone's take on attending a school in the city? I always thought that it would be better to go to a school simply in a "college town" and figured school in the middle of Chicago would be a bit much, but recently and after having seen this thread I'm kinda softening up to the idea of picking a school in the city. Thoughts?

Given how crazy this winter is, who knows. It'll probably be around 40's, maybe early 50's...

Going to college in the city is just basically living in the city, and you go to a class room every now and then. That might sound stupid, but that's really what it is. It's the exact opposite (at least what I've found) from going to UofI, ISU, etc. No real campus life (compared to the alternatives south of the city).

Not necessarily a bad thing

It's way better to be in the city. You just have more stuff to do at your disposal. Plus, you don't get the sense of claustrophobia that you would being stuck in a college town surrounded by the same things and people all day.

Ok bros, I just got in to my hotel. I'm staying on Wacker in the Loop. Where's a good place to go eat? Is Pequod's really that much better or would I be ok going to Lou's?
Holy shit, Welli. I had no idea you were in my town.

I live two blocks from Pequods!

Everything is tsundere to me
Hey ChicagoGAF, NYC Metro dweller here. I'm going to be in town for an event over Memorial Day weekend due to something my dad is dragging me along to. I was wondering if there were any good blues/rock independent music venues to try and get booked at since my band would like to come along if we can get a show there that weekend. Any suggestions (and commitments to come out and see us would only help :p) would be much appreciated. I know the New York/North Jersey scene pretty well, but that's only after a couple years of exploring it in depth. I'm wondering if there's any venues that would take an upstart band from North Jersey to maybe open up a night or some-such.

Thanks for the suggestions if there are any.

No help? Damnit, I don't wanna be bored in the Windy City. D:

Since submitting this new city sticker design... Little Herbert has had MANY "police & juvenile section contacts" and is now a self admitted Maniac Latin Disciple...

Look at his city sticker design. The HEART is the major MLD Gang Symbol. Look at the hands pointing up to the hats on that sticker... Look closely at the fingers and how they are being held...The 1st finger in front of the 2nd finger with the thumb extended back... It's the pitchfork sign. A normal drawing of the hand would not have each 1st finger extended past the 2nd finger.

Saw him tonight, and he was great.

I like the NMH album I own, but he's way way better live!

Fave taco places?

Mine are Las Asadas and La Pasadita.

Anywhere else I should be looking?

El Presidente on Wrightwood/Ashland has good tacos, and all around amaaaaazing Mexican food. Mm. I want some now. :|

I've always wanted to check that place out.

I usually get pozole whenever I go there. So. Fucking Good. Oh my god, I'm totally gonna go get some today.

I hate that you made me hungry.

As I've alluded to, I hit the food scene pretty hard. One of the biggest reasons why Chicago is one of the most exciting food cities in the world is because of Grant Achatz, from Alinea. Last year he opened up a high-concept restaurant called Next where he changes the menu and feel of the restaurant every 3 months. I was lucky enough to go twice (once for the Paris opening and another for the Thai menu.)

This is a food porn video of the next 3 month menu; a 29 courser tribute to El Bulli; Ferran Adria's restaurant and the birthplace of molecular gastronomy that closed last year.

I soooo want to go, but unfortunately tickets (yeah no res's, just tickets) are gonna be even harder for this one since they're only doing one seating a night, and it's going to be SUPER expensive, like 3 times more expensive then any of their other menus.

I live literally two blocks over from it, and I have never been.

I like La Pasadita. Big Star is great as well, but I'm a known Kahan kiss ass.
