That's not true. Unlike Secret Invasion at least this knows it's vapid. Plus, it has guys kung fu punching through dimensions. So that's one more cool thing than SI had.

I just didn't want to sound like a comic snob (which I am far from). I don't expect everything to be Jim Lee quality but sometimes I question what companies were thinking with certain art directions.



The latest issue at least gave us more insight into Miss Hodge and Miss Daramount. I know it's pretty wacky but I am hopelessly addicted.



Overall it may be, but his work on X-Force isn't appealing to me.

Turn that brightness up! Panel 4 was the most memorable " i'm not liking this" Sepulveda art. I think the coloring didn't help though.

Why do people say SI was bad? I read it after the entire series was over so maybe I have a different perspective than the others. I really disliked fear itself (the epilogue undoing everything that happened).

Ultimate Comics X-Men #14 was okay but really slow and i don't think i'll continue with it. So far i'm down to just Ultimate Comics Ultimate Ultimates. I'd be okay if i never saw another Nimrod or Stryker.

I enjoyed it more than the fake shake up brought up by final crisis. At least secret invasion was fun. I did enjoy the snapper carr and cheetah stuff, but the rest... nope.

I liked Ultimate Comics Ultimate Ultimates #13, i'll keep ordering the book, but i'll probably regret it if things get crossover heavy. It LOOKS like divided we stand isn't going to be a part 1 in ultimates, part 2 in x-men, part 3 in spidey though so i'm safe for now.

I was trying to understand why someone would feel that way about Land so I looked up his critical reception and had no idea he essentially traces pictures with a light box :/ This actually bums me out now since this whole time I thought his art for X-Men was really pretty and there's a 90% chance he traced a picture of a porn star to get it. Damnit, day ruined.

Yay Gillen, Boo Land

BC had this rumor down for months. Expect Fraction/Larocca Fantastic Four, Remender/Romita Jr on Captain America, and Avengers Assemble by Mark Waid later this week(as all of those books' respective runs are ending in October to make way for the new creative team in November, like Invincible Iron Man)

Finally getting back into comics after a two-three year hiatus, primarily the Batman universe.

One thing I've got to say, I love the dynamic of the four Robins at this point. They finally balanced Jason Todd from being an absolute batshit asshole (Red Hood to Battle for Cowl) to an enjoyable character and series. Keeping him with a different set of morals while not being a target for Batman and company is great.

Damien is just simply in boss mode. Really enjoy his interactions with Bruce, and how Bruce is adapting to life as a father.

Loved the Night of the Owls arc.

Great stuff all around. Still need to get to Batgirl and Nightwing's books. Started Action Comics as well.

My only complaint still is I WANT MY ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN TO BE COMPLETED. They are clearly dense.

I'll check out Black Mirror. Things have progressed too much since the last time I read. I do want to complete the Return of Bruce Wayne and some of the closing arcs before the re-launch.

Yeah, not everyone enjoyed it, but it was the most entertaining Batman series by far in the last few decades. A great guilty pleasure.

I love LaRocca's Iron Man.

Nope. Nooooooooope. Nope nope nope. Seeing Larroca go from a fun 90's comic book artist working with Claremont on Fantastic Four then X-Men, and going through some creative crisis of confidence and heading towards that terrible realistic style that gives way to hacks like Greg Land from his later X-Men runs and then Iron Man is a major source of my own core comic upset.

Ironically enough, Stegman is that fun 90's comic book artist I enjoy again, and his upcoming Fantastic Four work is going to probably slot in right next to Larroca returning to the book in his new dreary movie style.

Guy can draw! I have entire runs of his that attest to this, but here we are. Blech. I love Marvel's movies, but when so many funnypages turned to the movie style in kind, something really died in comics. Thankfully theres fun artists out there that still keep the spirit alive.

the same thing stands for land. he has actual talent, but he relegates to garbage tracing. as much as i dont like quitelys art, id much rather see his work than lands tracing. the only time his tracing even looked decent was during the uf4 "crossover" arc. and even then, it looked worse when not focused on the 4

The truth of the matter probably lies, as ever, with artist insecurities. I loved Larroca's old simplified fun and cartoony style, but you could thumb the usual crit at him that all his characters look the same just with different facial hair/skin/hair colours and costumes. But yknow what? These are cape books, its the costumes that define them most of the time anyway. Heres a look at how Larroca drew Iron Man back during his FF run:

I guess a route to combatting that sameyness is to then use actors and photo reference for faces all of the time, which in turn locks comic panels to the flat perspectives of whatever TV show or movie theyre ganked from so as to not look out of place. So sure, he's gained more individual looking characters, but at the cost of what made his work so fun and fresh to read in the first place. Comics

I much preferred Larroca's 90s art as well. I actually got into comics for the first time around the time of the Onslaught event, and collected the four Heroes Return titles for awhile. I never liked Claremont's return runs on X-Men, but I thought his Fantastic Four run was pretty good. Of course, I was 16 at the time and haven't read it sense. Larroca's run on FF and the Heroes Return mini before that was great. However, his art was already taking a turn for the worst before he ever started Invincible Ironman. His X-Men run shortly after House of M with the traced Neon Genesis Evangelion Sentinels was pretty aweful.
