Finally fought Gwyn. Wow. What an amazing last boss. The location. The music that is so hauntingly melancholic. His look.

About the boss fight itself, this dude just doesn’t stop attacking. Let me attack too you know. I resorted to using Flash Sweat and the armor I got from the lava demon to mitigate his fire damage. It’s so difficult to get a hit in without getting interrupted now though due to low poise and I have to time my attacks well. Dodging his grab attack is essential in having a window of opportunity to attack.

Story implications are so minuscule though. I really was expecting more and at the very least some narration like in the opening. Like we lit the fire and became like Gwyn. Are we like him now, forced to stay in the Kiln until someone else relit the fire again?

Are there multiple endings? Elden Ring had multiple so I’m expecting it but I don’t know how to trigger them with how little I can actually do to affect the whole thing or am I missing something?

Overall though. What an amazing game. Honestly, I had the most fun up til Anor Londo. The bosses after the duo was more or less gimmick bosses or reskins. The locations were amazing still but nothing tops Anor Londo aside from maybe Ash Lake.
Still there were glimpses of great stuff still like I could see Ash Lake and the Bed of Chaos area in the Tomb of the Giants. Duke’s Archive was as great as the ones before. Crystal Cave was short but sweet and beautiful with those butterflies. How super connected to everything New Londo was with multiple points of entries. New Londo and Darkroot Garden are basically present day Oolicile and the origin of the Abyss and how it became the home of the four kings.

I definitely see myself listening to the ost of this if it’s on spotify. I see why people are so in love with the game and I haven’t even scratched the surface of the lore which I’m sure will entertain me for dozens of hours.

I’ll highly recommend this to anyone even if it is a bit difficult at the start.

It took me 82 hours and 45 minutes to complete the game. Around 25 hours of that were spent farming stuff for NG+ so if you don’t think you’ll do NG+, I think around 60 hours is the sweet spot.

Two endings. You must not place the Lordvessel as instructed by the primordial serpent and must venture into the abyss below New Londo for the alternative ending. To do so you must obtain the red wizard's key in New Londo and the ring from Artorias' mutt in the forest.

Also, does anyone know of the current state of nightfall? After looking into it a week ago or so, it's giving me serious vaporware vibes.

I doubt its vaporware since it’s coming from Fromsoft. You can also apparently play it in singleplayer.

I just can’t be excited about it because I saw post being surprised Dark Souls NPC and bosses being featured in it.

I need to finish DS2 and DS3 to know what the hype is about.

I imagine Nightfall will be like From’s take on the MH formula.

Nightfall is different than the elden ring dlc (which has an uncannily similar name)

You may find it interesting :) it's a fan mod that starts immediately after dark souls 1 and is intended to be a DIRECT sequel as opposed to dark souls 2 and 3.

It's been silent for a while, though the patron seems semi-active

Edit: accidentally double quoted

Great post. It's so amazing to see someone go through this game blind and using all these techniques to beat a boss. Flash Sweat and switching armor etc for Gwyn. I've played for so many years I can't even remember a time I didn't just parry him into oblivion (which is by far the easiest way to beat him).

Thank you for sharing.

It does. Like what is that dash. That’s op. Also is that the chosen undead not linking the fire? I assume the second ending for DS1. Those passive silver knights too. Maybe they think you’re Gwyn because of the pendant. Those moveset too. Is that DS1 or sequel moveset? I don’t remember it being that way for curved swords at least for the Iaito. That seems so fast and smooth that it feels like an Elden Ring moveset.

Lorewise and gameplay wise, it’s right up my alley. Hopefully the mod gets done.

It's nice to read another player's impressions.

Every now and then I think about trying Dark Souls 2. Admittedly its reputation got me hesitant.

I'm actually gonna go ahead and play it.

This video tries to tell why Dark Souls 2 is bad based on the pros and cons. I decided that I could live with the cons and wanted to try out the pros.

Some of the cons I feel aren't even cons and are just mechanics to make the combat feel more realistic. Of course, preferences may vary.

Thanks for sharing, I love to watch of bunch of videos about the Souls games every now and then.

I watched a video the other day that essentially said that the game intends for you to kill enemies as you encounter them. If you run past them you'll stumble upon more enemies and all of them will follow you, making for a very frustrating experience.

It is fantastic in many regards. Mods cover its weaknesses very well. Those mainly being sound effects, stamina recovery, and adaptability stat controlling item use speed and invincible frames on rolls.

Demon Souls Sound Effects
Stamina and ADP Fix

Also, I cannot recommend enough the complete overhaul Seeker of Fire mod that adds more atmosphere and linearity in line with other Souls games. It changes structure a bit though...

FYI: The stamina and ADP fix is derived from Seeker of Fire.

Now I'm tempted to install 2 again. I want to like it. I just don't. SFX and stam/ADP will definitely help - they're both tuned horribly. There are still fundamental issues that I despise like animations and movement, but maybe they won't be so bad if other things are addressed.

(My dream mod is a Souls Skyblivion, with 2's content in a game I like. 1 or 3 will do, I can see an argument for either. Won't happen though, Souls stuff is notoriously difficult/slow to work with.)

killatopak killatopak if you do play 2, you should just continue in this thread. ValiantTraveler ValiantTraveler you too.

Actually you don't need anything special for the second ending. Just exit the final arena instead of litting the fire.
What you described is how to access the other primordial Serpent into the abyss. Not needed for the second ending but it gives a lot of lore about it indeed.

I love how the souls games all have super self explanatory endings that aren’t particularly exciting but are cool when you think of them in context of the lore.

Heck, nearly all of ers endings are the same videos but with different (and only slightly so) words

For me ER has only 3 endings : Elden Lord, Stars and Chaos. All the other are just variants of Elden Lord endings, like you mentioned which are a just a change of color tone change and voice over. Quite disappointing (but it's already something to have 3 endings). It's funny now that I think about it, it reinforce again my feeling that Elden Ring is too much bloated with filler content and should have focus on the unique ones.

Even the most unique ER ending when compared to DS3 endings shows how unfinished the lore is.
You get the extra Melina reveal but we still have no concrete answer to who this woman is. The DLC only gave one extra (important) piece of info but still didn't connect enough dots. If there isn't a sequel they failed in their storytelling.
Contrast that with the ending where the fire is usurped entirely in favour of the dark, rounding out 3 games of it being what was supposed to happen before Gwyn linked the flame.

I really want to play Elden ring again on pc with the dlc. Does it run well? I played it on ps5 last and it was fine. Didn’t play the dlc though.

I should be ok, 5800x3d, 6800, and 32 gigs?
Yeah you will absolutely be ok to go. Your system absolutely mogs mine and I had the highest settings (besides ray tracing, which doesn’t do anything in Elden ring) running smoothly (solid 60fps) at 1080p.
