Dead Rising 2 Review Thread

Looks like DR2 is getting some pretty solid review scores. I thought I would see a score of 9 here or there, but 8's are very good. Reading some of these reviews has gotten me really hyped for this game, even moreso than before. It is too bad to hear about the technical issues though, wish that framerate was a solid 30 minimum.

I think what's keeping it from being a 9ish game is:

Too much load screens
Framerate
Psychopaths are cheap/annoying to fight instead of enjoyable.

conspiracy theory complaint:

co-op is two Chucks, could sour people's opinions and make them think the developers are lazy.

I can agree with the 2 bolded from holding it back, even if framerate issues manage to get overlooked in other, recent games review scores. Too much loading does suck though and that can really kill someone's enjoyment of the game, just like a chugging framerate.

Psychopaths being to cheap is just laughable. Sure they are tough when you are level 10. Psycho's aren't all meant to be fought and defeated until you are fully leveled and equipped to handle them. So anyone who is complaining about that just needs to suck less or play co-op.

2 chuck's in co-op shouldn't be an issue at all. Nobody ever cared about 2 master chiefs in halo 1 and that is one of the best co-op games of all time. Also, with all the ridiculous clothing options, no 2 Chuck's will look alike.

I haven't played DR 2 yet, but there were a few psychos who were more annoying than fun in the first game ( which i did play!)

Well deserved scores.

The game sure does have technical problems, but it does one thing right.
It's bucket loads of fun! :D

Unless you hate killing zombies in fun ways this game is not for you.

Let me rephrase this: This isn't a game you should buy at bargain price. :O

The bosses tend to be annoying in both games. Some of them, at least. The way the psychopaths have been handled in the sequel is not all that different compared to those in 1, so it's for the best if you wait 'til you've leveled up or collected decent enough weapons / firearms to deal with 'em later on.

I do have fond memories of taking out one guy of the sniper family with nothing but a hockey stick and pucks though!

Well F. Waiting for it to hit a bargain bin price point for sure now.
To be fair, the framerate rarely messed with the gameplay, if that's what you're worried about.

Or maybe you simply have a low tolerance for fluctuating framerates, so in that case you'd be better off getting the PC version if that one turns out to be an alright port.

It seems that the reviews for Dead Rising 2 have started to come in, especially from Europe.

I know a lot of people were wondering how this would turn out so I thought a review thread might be interesting.

solid scores but after reading some of these , I'm highly disappointed , look like Blue Castle succeeded in copying the first game but did noting to evolve it as a sequel.

What did you expect?
They established a new main character, made bigger enviroments, added a superior gimmick to the character (combos vs. photography), Co-Op and more.
You think they should have added a cover system or some shit?

This.

And F wanting full voice-acting for the survivors instead of text and a mini-map (you've got an objective arrow for a reason) like some reviewers have been writing.

Why are some people opposed to voice acting in games when it makes perfect sense? I can understand not wanting Link or Gordon Freeman to talk but NPC's in Dead Rising 2? Really? What does text do to make it that much better?

They're survivors. You only meet them once in a single run before you leave them to rot for the rest of the campaign after leading them to the safe zone. Most of the time you're not even busy fending off zombies while trying to read what they have to say, unless you specifically have to protect them against a small group until they're willing to provide more details. You're not stuck in place or anything if you start a conversation with them, and there's a skip button this time around for each line of text to speed up the process. Plus it's not like they're completely mute, as you can regularly hear them shout cries of help / cheesy one-liners along the way or whenever you occasionally drop by at the safe house for whatever reason.

If they were main characters, fair enough, but I don't see what full voice-acting for very minor NPC characters (as much as they amuse me) would add to this game other than a waste of time and resources for the developers.
