DEATHLOOP Review Thread

Played a couple of hours, killed the first visionary, invaded a couple of players and have got a pretty good handle on the game.

It's like Bioshock fucked Shaft and had a beautiful baby together. Colt is a great character.

Not really seeing the Dark Souls comparisons myself. Gameplay loop is so different. It's not a roguelike either.

Really enjoying it so far. Looking forward to delving into the nooks and crannies of the levels more and discovering stuff.

It's decided im gonna become a games journalist!

I mean they obviously receive completely different, 10/10 games all the time, unlike us mere plebs

I find actual SJW culture extremely annoying. But, you guys who find it where it doesn't exist to fit your narrative is just as bad.

I love how one of the lead God of War writers confirmed on twitter yesterday that Kratos' actor is 2 black men, and has been so for some time. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Maybe that will cause some people to reflect on themselves, but it probably won't.

Right now the game is a 8/10 for me. I could understand a 9/10 but a 10? No...

Update: the frame pacing is bad. Why the reviews don't talk about this? Ok they are not DF or Nxgamer to cout the pixels or the res but the frame pacing is bad. I don't any tool or count anything to notice it.

Balanced review from Easy Allies. Things to keep in mind:
-You become powerful far too quickly
-Repetition
-Brain dead AI

Its not a 10/10 game by any means.

Dont know what drug IGN and Gamespot were using

But its a notch better than the Dishonored games

If you enjoyed those, you're kn for a treat

Would give it an 8,5/9 from what I played

Even 8 is really fair

A new high watermark for Arkane and developers of similar games to aspire to, Deathloop is a game like no other. Here's our Deathloop review, covering Deathloop's single player and PvP modes.

Reviewed on PlayStation 5 by Matt Purslow. Deathloop releases on PS5 and PC on September 14, 2021.

It‘s because it’s quite an original idea in a sea of derivative shit. They’re all overcompensating because they’re amazed it’s as good as it is.

The frame pacing is bad. I like the game but they don't talk about bad performance, bugs or frame pacing issues.

PC players complaining about performance. Who would have thought? Look at the positive reviews, where it's actually about gameplay and not stuttering.

I play a ton of PC don't @ me

Is this the best shooter ot the year? People who also played Returnal, how do they compare, if they do at all? Which one is the best overall package?
I haven’t played enough of deathloop for a comparison yet. But for personal taste, Returnal is my thing because of the horror and dark sci-fi. Loop is the total opposite in atmosphere. Jolly, bright and hilarious. For now, I’ll say that the combat in Returnal is more arcade and dare I say more refined. They’re both incredibly playable and gameplay focused. 2021 to me is going down as a hell of a great year.

A hell of a lot of people out there saying that this is massively overrated....

That it's not tight and is way too easy..... ACG, Supanova, Sophia above and pretty much everyone Ive talked to...which is about 6 or 7 people have said it's anywhere between a 6.5 to an 8. Most said about 7.

I'd believe that.... there seems to be a huge push behind this game from the media. Of course the fact that it is easier probably makes it more attractive to media types.

I don't buy into the media conspiracy thing, but I really don't see how this game got 10s. It is not a bad game, but it is nowhere near a masterpiece, either. It's a solid 7.5-8, so far.

Also, it is not a rougelike or rougelite at all. There are no randomized levels. You don't "start over" each day. You are progressing, not in just your character getting stronger, but actually completing and unlocking new missions. They just frame the new missions being unlocked by Colt "gaining new knowledge".

Why are people so obsessed with other people's opinions on games and what "score" they give something? Pro-tip: play something for yourself and form your *own* opinion, crazy idea I know. I personally haven't relied on reviews to inform my purchases in almost 20 years, I've been hardcore gaming since the Atari 2600 and know what I like, previews/pre-release coverage/dev reputation and my own instincts are enough to determine whether something will click.

I also find it comical that someone would get the plat trophy for something they aren't really digging (and this is far from an easy plat), someone should of told them life is too short to spend precious time you will never get back doing something that isn't fulfilling/enjoyable. No idea who that person is, couldn't care less about them or other gaming personalities. My trophy level is 517, look mom, I can flex too! 💪

Clearly there are plenty of people in this thread who are loving the game (myself included) so there goes the "game journo" conspiracy theory lol. After 25+ hours I feel comfortable saying it *isn't* as strong as Dishonored, there *is* some sense of repetition but it also does some wildly original stuff mechanically and as time goes on originality is something I place a premium on, it's increasingly hard to surprise me and do something new, this game does it and does it very well, it isn't just a gimmick for gimmicks sake.

I will reserve my final judgement until after I completed it, can already say it won't surpass Returnal as my GOTY (so far) but maybe it will crack my top 3. Either way I'm happy I picked it up day 1 and have Arkane the support they deserve. I understand some users on gaming forums spend more time talking about games than actually playing them, whatever floats your boat I guess 👌.

Games take a significant investment in both time and money. There are dozens of games released every week. I don't know how you manage to just play them all so you can form your own opinion about each.

Until, I get unlimited time and money, I'll still appreciate the importance of reviews.

Do you also buy 30 cars, so you can make an informed decision? I personally do research and read reviews and trust other people's information.

Now, THAT we can agree on. Returnal is on a different level, although the games are nothing alike.

I like Deathloop too, but I don't see it being in my top 3.

1. Learn to read lol. You quote my post and ignore my personal reasons for not relying on reviews, if *you* need reviews to inform your purchases then fantastic. Nowhere was it stated I play them all and there are plenty of games I know I'd love but simply don't have the time to play. I know plenty of people who are in the same boat as me, been gaming for a looooong time and know what they like, previews etc are enough. Love the cars comparison though, I'm struggling to think of a sillier false analogy 👍.

Oh and I don't disagree that reviews have their utility but anyone relying on a single individuals *opinion* is probably braindead, never understood people who say "xyz gave this a 7 so I'm not playing it", at least look at other points of view.

2. I'm glad we agree on Returnal, it's a special game 👊.

Yeah, I was watching Supanovas review...which is 30 minutes long and he said you just start in the same place and it's not roguelike.... that it was not explained or advertised correctly and it's a very different experience to what he was expecting.

Beat the game today. I really enjoyed it.

I think 8.5 is fair for this game. Because its a cool concept. But it has enough flaws to keep it from being a 9.

Why would you tell someone they can't read and then proceed to type that many difficult words? Jerk.

A) not a shooter. At all. Think Bioshock/Prey. Not CoD/Halo.

B) Not a rogue like, so nothing like Returnal.

C) Deathloop has far more going on story and mission wise than Returnal.

D) Deathloop way more fun. Returnal way more challenging.

A) It's still a shooter, as are BioShock and Prey.

B) Correct

C) I found Returnal's story much more interesting than Deathloop's story.

D) I agree Returnal is more challenging. It's also more fun though.

E) Deathloop is pretty good. Returnal is GOTY great. They are also nothing alike.

Have to agree. Returnal is kind of an immaculate experience. Gameplay is tighter. Deathloop is kind of messy in its overload of menu level objectives. I love the sandbox and the main two characters but the narrative in Returnal is much more cohesive even if it’s open-ended. I’m lost with the name-dropping on Deathloop.

Anyway, we’re blessed for having these games that are way above the generic bullshit we’ve been served.

I see the value of Game Pass but I don't see it lasting that long with this kind of mentality. I see devs slowly turning away from it. Xbox users are starting to become too confortable, waiting for free games instead of actually buying them. This is terrible business wise.

Well it obviously isnt because devs are more than happy to have their games put on GP, many are saying its the best thing they have done for their games. You literally could not be more wrong with this hottake

Hopefully they wont support this with dlc or stuff and they start on that Dishonored 3: Tyvia, lets return to form, shall we Arkane? cause I'm pretty sure that Redfall thingie aint it also.

I've been thinking about it since beating the game, and I think I've come up with the reason IGN and Gamespot gave Deathloop a 10:

Because it's on Easy/Journalist Difficulty by default. "Oh I actually beat a game on the difficulty it was designed! This game is a 10!"

But seriously though, it's baffling. Prey deserved these scores, not this. Hell, I remember IGN giving Prey something like a 4 because the reviewer's save got wiped lmao

At the start the game is confusing and hard to work out but middle to end is where this really comes into its own and it’s now one of my favourite games

I think you are confused between Easy and Journalist difficulty. Easy is for new players but you can still fail. Journalist difficulty is Normal but with cheat mode on but not reflected in the HUD because they have to do video reviews and stuff.

Majority of modern games are complete cakewalks, you are a fool if you think this is the reason for the high scores...

I think they just want to show that they also praise games with a slightly original concept and not only the usual bland blockbusters...
