Hilarious hit piece. I've never noticed any stuttering and I'm on an LG OLED tv and have had both the PS5 and PS5 Pro and I played Hogwarts Legacy.
If this was truly was a widespread issue, DF would have mentioned it FAR earlier... but this is the first time since VRR was implemented on PS5 that they're mentioning it...
It also does not appear that they reached out to Sony for comment on this hit piece. It's getting really funny at this point. There would have been a mountain of threads on this if this was the experience people were having on GAF.
Ironically, though, I hope this hit piece results in Sony implementing AMD Freesync.
Edit: Speaking of which, DF didn't confirm whether these displays they tested used AMD Freesync and whether AMD Freesync was enabled during their testing, which could explain why it wasn't impacting Xbox.
A proper test would have engaged the community to build a better test case for Sony if it was truly a Sony problem rather than a hit piece (could still be a Sony problem).
What was the firmware on the specific models and what were the specific model numbers for each of the displays used? What's a possibility is that these are all using a version of HDMI 2.1 VRR standard that is causing an issue.
After months of reports of VRR issues on PlayStation consoles, Digital Foundry confirms that there is an issue impacting both PS5 and PS5 Pro.
