DIY Perks recycles old TVs to create "Infinity Contrast"

DIY Perks is a YouTuber who's made some pretty impressive shit in the past, some good practical wise, others bat shit crazy, but this current invention feels like something that could be actually adapted for the TV market. He ends up recycling an old LCD TV and a projector to create a TV with a much better contrast than most LED LCD TVs.

This was a great video. I also liked that other one he did where he layered two LCD screens to make an OLED-like pixel perfect backlight.

Heh - that's actually pretty cool. I was thinking of same thing a while ago but never really figured way to align that black and white high-con image or actually syncing the image to both led panel and light source...
Still, I'm glad someone actually did it. Of course not so practical with a lot of OLED panels out there, but it's good to know that the theory worked! :D

Didn't Hisense do this in one of its TVs a few years ago?

And the Bravia 9 says that Micro LED is what Sony is going for.

Also he is clearly comparing it to a bad LED tv. A lot of newer models have very little bloom.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
Genius! Impractical in real life but still: genius.

That was really cool. I wonder if the dual mirrors used at the end caused image degradation. I'd think even the cleanest best mirrors might.

I doubt it. The only thing the mirror is affecting is the backlight, and that signal is already being blurred on purpose to refine the edges of the backlight.

That's what I get for skipping around. I thought the image and the backlight were both coming from the projector. Should've figured this guy would've called it out if it was an issue.
