DJ MAX Community Thread: Back With More Block-Droppin' Beats

what level do you guys play on i can't get past 4B any tips to get better at higher levels?

What I did was just jump in and take the lower lvl 6B songs head on. I'm still not that great at them but I can at least pass a lot of them. I have been stuck on 4B for a long time but I still have a blast with it. Just need to develop that 6B muscle memory now.

Edit: Also, what speed do you play on? Adjusting the speed can help a ton with reading note charts.

Only really had experience with technika seeing that I don't have a PSP.

When I get a Vita (god knows when) I'll be on a dj max binge.

would re-buy instantly to play it on Vita D:

Hope to find Love Mode, Electronics, Flea etc. in Technika as well as some more K-Pop songs (been playing Tap Sonic on Android for 200+ hours)

Still, i'm more a DDR guy :p

3 sometimes 3.5 i find the faster it goes the easier it is to hit the notes any slower and i hit the notes way to early

Okay, so I'm thinking of holding weekly high score contests.

I need a run-down of what versions you MAXers have.

I have Portable/2/CE/BS/3, so I can do whatever.

I'm leaning towards 2/Fever, since I assume most people have that.

Got all of them (except Hot Tunes), but it's best to do it with DJMP3, that's the only one available on PSN I think, so more people can participate.

Considered doing one for beginners, but nah.

Weekly High Score Challenge #1
(DJ MAX Portable 3)

300px-WhiteBlue_TechnikaEyecatch2.jpg

White Blue (Trance)

Mode: 6B
Chart: NM

Difficulty: ***** ***

This will run for one week. I could only think of one reward I can confidently provide, even if it's the nerdiest thing imaginable.

Highest score winner can name a DJ MAX song, and I'll personally create a Stepmania chart for it.

If we have a tie, well... uh, we'll go from there.

Challenge accepted! I will recharge my PSP when I get home, and then it's on like Donkey Kong...

P.S. If anyone of you picks Ray of Illuminati as next song I will rage.

Alright finally got some time to put into this,

First time playing in a good while but here is my score for Supersonic:

Rank: A
Combo: 1265
Break: 4
Jud: 95.8
Bonus: 21063
Score: 273316

I actually forgot how much I like the track list for 3, it's not my favorite, but there really is alot of great stuff in this set. Man the wait for Techinika Tune is going to be killer.

I find the main way to get better is to play songs that you can beat, but not do amazing on. Basically if you get a 75% - 90% on the song, then you should keep playing that song until you get out of that range, then move on to other, harder, songs.

A tip to make entry into the modes that involve more buttons is to pay really close attention to the color of the falling notes and what button they are associated with. I remember that helping me a lot when I was starting.

EDIT: Has anyone here purchased the Japanese version of Black Square? I'm curious if they removed auto-correct, which would be amazing.

Get 5B. I play at 6B, but I prefer 5 since it lets you use both > and [] for the middle note.

Another reason to get Clazziquai, Black Square, or Portable 2. (Portable 1 is just 4/6/8, I think).

The next song will most likely be Blythe.

Man there's this song that was on DJ Max Fever. Ahh, I can't remember the name. I remember how the beat went. It sounds like Right Now from DJ Max Portable 2. Man now this is bugging me.

What a difference .2% makes!

You know what I noticed..when it comes to judgement, it shows the highest judgement you've gotten on that specific song and with that 99.4%, it happened during a run where I had 1 or 2 breaks. When I got the high score I posted up, I only had a 99.0%:

Whenever I play Technika it seems the soundtrack has a pretty strong tilt towards licensed K-Pop tracks. I know I've played a bunch of the Clazziquai stuff, and there's quite a few Kara tracks in 3 (Mister is a ton of fun). I just hope they fit everything they can onto Vita and offer the rest as DLC, my perfect soundtrack is still spread across the entire series for the most part.

That looked really fun. Hopfeully the Vita version doesn't screw anything up and delivers.

Been playing more Portable 3 lately.

Not the greatest songlist, but there are a few songs that stick out.

My current favorite (which I just recorded) is:

Waiting for the Sun 6B/NM

Not a big fan of how this series handles freeze notes. You have to let go of the note right when it ends or else you'll get a penalty.

They should really release all the other games on PSN to celebrate the upcoming release of Tune. Just some wishful thinking.

Well, with cj_iwakura banned, who is going to pick the weekly challenges. Anyone up for it? It would be sad to see this thread die out.

Downloaded DJMP3 on Vita, game looks great but the D-pad on the left is too slippy. Having all of the buttons feel relatively the same on PSP is a big part of what makes the gameplay so tight. I'll have to get used to it.

Sorry about that!

So Hinomura takes the crown.

PM me or post your song of choice for Stepmaniaization, and I'll get right on it.

Week 2's song is, as promised...

DJMAX_CE_WALL_085.jpg

Blythe (5B Mode, NM).

I believe this should use the same scoring across versions, but if I'm wrong...well, we'll cross that bridge then!

Welcome back cj_iwakura :)

Scoring is different among the Dj Max games; aside from boosts and tweaks, songs patterns are different too.

By the way, I'd suggest focusing on PSN released games, since the other games are difficult to find and are UMD only, excluding a lot of Gaffers from the competition...

Edit: damn, I've just discovered to have lost all the saves safe for djmp3 and fever :( oh well, time to grind again some hundreds hours...

Ah well. If not enough people have access to Blythe/P2/Fever, I'll post a DJMP3 pick later. Enough people seem to have that.

Also, you owe me a DJMP song decision. :p

I leave to Hispanicguy or cj_iwakura the choice of the next DJMP3 track... I'd like something like 4.2T NB Ranger NonStopRemix (TS), but it could be not available from start without massive grinding, I don't remember...

I think I quit Black Square because of how the game registers the notes, it was really annoying. Is there a patch for this?

The Japanese version of Black Square, which was just recently released, got rid of the auto-correct feature that is in the original version of the game. Sadly, there is no patch to get rid of it if you have the original Black Square. The game is still great fun though.

Is it also for FEVER as well? Does their Japanese version remove this annoyance?

I cant read Japanese, can I still play the game? Is there some language patch I can get online?

DJMax Fever also has auto-correct, but the Japanese version of Fever, which is DJMax Hot Tunes, doesn't.

It doesn't matter if you can't read Japanese. There really isn't anything to be read in any of the games. So if you want to import the Japanese Black Square, then go for it. I'd love to, but I can't really warrant the purchase because I already own the original Black Square. And once you get good enough, the auto-correct thing isn't really an issue.

Are you familiar with stepmania? The reward was a stepmania-ization of a DJMP track.
(It's a PC DDR sim, basically.)

My bad, my mind tricked me in thinking the reward was the choice of the compo next track. I know Stepmania, but I'm not interested in, sorry. I'll go on partecipating just for the challenge :)

Ahhhh, yes, one of my favourite game series of all time, ever since Fever came out in the US. Shame there's no mention of Trilogy in the OP...It has to be my personal top choice of all the games released. There's little hope for it, but I'm still craving another PC release.

Hmm, so I was wondering: I own the PSN version of DJ Max Fever, but I can't seem to be able to download it to my Vita. Is there absolutely no way to do it, now that the game's been taken down from the Store?

It was never compatible with the Vita, unfortunately.

Is there a list of songs for DJMAX Portable 2 with the levels we unlock them on (is it tied to levels anyway?)? I played a really nice song on a challenge that I don't think I have on my setlist and I want to know when I could unlock it...

I played a bit of Portable 3 and from what I've heard about its grind, I hoped it'll be better in previous games. Frankly, it doesn't feel that better - maybe there's more of a difference on higher levels?
