Does it make sense to purchase all multiplatform games on PS5 Pro even if you have the other consoles?

For multiplatform games will you buy them on PS5 Pro, XsX or Nintendo Switch?

RE4 is $20 right now and I was trying to research whether PS5 or XsX has the better version, but then I realized if I'm getting the Pro I might as well default any multiplatform purchases to that. Doesn't make sense getting a multiplat game on XsX if you have the Pro. Maybe consider the switch if you want portability. Anyone else defaulting all multiplat game purchases to the Pro?

PS5 Pro doesn’t have GamePass.
PS5 Pro isn’t portable.

Do you buy games on gamepass?

For RE4 it would be ridiculous to not buy the PS5 version if you're getting a PS5 Pro.

On top of being a better version on Pro, it also has PSVR 2 support, if you have or ever buy a PSVR 2.

And RE4 VR is phenomenal.

For $20? Buy that shit right now.

If it gets personal I buy them cheap, it doesn't matter the reason, if they don't get cheap my answer will be no.

Do you own the PS5 Pro, or own something other than the PS5 Pro? If no to either, then the question is irrelevant.
Do you own the PS5 Pro and does the game have PS5 Pro improvements? If yes, get it on the PS5 Pro. If not, get it on your platform of preference.

I wouldn’t recommend buying third party games on Xbox that aren’t “Play Anywhere” given they seem to be allowing rumours of their next box being a PC to persist. If so, publishers likely won’t simply allow these purchases to be valid, it would need to be an opt-in thing (like backwards compatibility was).

Steam for multiplatform. Playstation for the games they refuse to bring to Steam.
And a Nintendo games once all the major franchise games are available, In OLED hardware Switch 2 form only.

Yeah that's how you do. If you have a PS5 and a PC for example: you have a GPU that is weaker than the PS5, so you buy the heavy games for the PS5. Then you buy a new GPU that's faster than the PS5, so you start buying the heavy games there.

There's nuances of the platform but all else equal, yeah just buy it for your best hardware. That's normal.

I've had a Series X and PS5 sinch launch, I've always favoured PS5 for multiplat games because of the controller and haptics. I just like the controller better. That being said, Series X has always had the edge for proper Atmos on a high end home theatre system, it's a night and day difference comparing two of the same game which I've done before. Now that I've pre-ordered the Pro, that solidifies my decision because why the hell else would you buy the Pro if you don't want the highest performing console.

Speaking of the Pro, I'm calling it now, I think GTA VI is going to have a 60fps performance mode on Pro. Either the base consoles won't have a 60fps mode or they will and it will be noticeably better on the Pro. You watch some people rush out to buy a Pro when that happens. It will be the best place to play considering no PC release at launch. I don't believe for a second that GTA VI is so advanced/ performance heavy, Pro couldn't even run a 60fps version.

I don’t understand the dilemma.

Why would you buy a new, more powerful console but hesitate to play games on it ? Do you have a vow of obedience to anyone ?

I’ve bought a PC recently after dozen of years being only on console so heck yeah I’ll enjoy the hell of what I’ve been paying extra $$$ for.

In the 360 and PS3 era I’d just wait for the performance comparison reviews and get the best version.

So unless Xbox comes out with a mid-gen upgrade—or jumps ahead to next-gen—very soon, it’s a no brainer if you are already getting a PS5 Pro, or if you only care about the best place to play and don’t want to go the PC route for whatever reason.

Even unpatched games with DRS or GPU limited moments of stutter will get an uplift for free in Boost mode.

Just wait and see? It should have the best console ports by default, there shouldn’t be any question about that. If a 800$ console has the worst ports then well..

Depends, the CPU is the problem. But If the game runs on 60fps it could be best console to play upcoming games. 60fps should be normal now for consoles. With PSSR they can do it, Alan Wake 2 is a good example. That's PSSR Ultra Performance, that will be the end point for PS5 Pro. Alan Wake 2 is miles ahead to other titles, so if CPU optimisations for Unreal Continue and developers put efforts things can look much better. I am sure the upcoming first party games will be a real looker on PS5. I always recommend playing first party games on consoles if they have 60fps other than that third party should be played on PC but traversal stutter, shader comp stutter and the worst not talked enough Memory leak on PC does give a slight headroom for PS5 Pro to shine.

P.S. Play RE4 on Pro. I play it with DLSS mod and man ML aliasing makes all the difference. I think RE4 looks stunning on PS5 Pro will be one of the DF upcoming video titles. Like the shimmer in that game will be instant gone and RE4 looks amazing.

If you ask that question i guess a bit more power is not that important to you. If money is more important, Series X is the answer, keys from Argentina are unmatched. I'm missing the pc option, where you can have both.

PC is missing from the poll. I play most multi-platform games on Xbox, but if the console port is broken etc. and I really want to play a game, I go with PC. I use my switch only for Nintendo exclusives. PS4 pro was my last PlayStation as none of the Sony exclusives are interesting enough for me.

In most cases--though not all--the vanilla PS5 version either runs better than the XSX version or about the same. Ergo, if you're getting a PS5 Pro, you're already getting a better experience as the PS5 Pro will give a basic "boost" to PS5 games even when they don't have a dedicated PS5 Pro mode. If the game has a PS5 Pro mode or patch coming specifically to take advantage of PS5 Pro, then it's a no brainer.

There is no reason to play your game on weaker hardware when you have the strongest. If you have a mighty need to play a game portably, then maybe the Switch OLED, but in a lot of cases you'd be accepting a significant hit to performance in order to get that portability.

If you have a PS5 Pro, get your games on PS5. Otherwise you're rather wasting your money investing in the hardware.

Hard to say Series x has boost mode for all older games we don’t know how good if at all boost with be with older ps4 titles. I say get them in whatever you plan on supporting going forward

If you have a pro on the way and it's going to be your main gaming box I'd buy everything on it.

I only use my plqystation for exclusives so multiplats are xbox if play anywhere and then steam but if playstation was my main gaming device, like it is for millions of people then the ps5 with pro patch is the clear no brainer

This is such an amusing premise for a thread.

I mean, duh?

Pro will clearly give you the best performance for the rest of the gen. Pretty much a no-brainer to pick up your games there if you’re buying it.

I guess the main hurdle would be multiplayer if your friends are all playing on another platform without crossplay.

But other than that I’d just go for the Ps5 version.

Depends entirely on the game.
Graphically amazing titles will be on Pro,
Indie stuff is on Switch, Xbox is for Exclusives there or stuff i dont want to pay 70€ for.

I just like to keep all my Trophies on the same platform so I try to pick PS5 for all my multiplat titles

Steam Achievements are regarded as a bad joke

Switch doesn't have trophies period

I'm not getting a Pro (at least not until there's a significant sale on it), but if I was I'd buy everything 3D for it. 2D indies can be a great fit for the Switch.

The only things that should stop you buying for the best system is a) game on sale elsewhere, b) when you want to game with pals who are on another system and the game doesn’t support cross play.

Boost mode will only be good for PS4 games that get a specific Pro patch since unpatched ps4 games (with capped framerates and drs) have already benefitted from boost mode on ps5 base in 2020 ...Sony is not going to start making Pro patches for ps4 games at this point even though they should. Honestly, they should've patched these games for PS5 (driveclub, gravity rush 2, last guardian, the order 1886, and of course Bloodborne)

I agree, however the longer you wait the harder it is to patch games. It's simply because the programmers are not active on the project anymore, and already moved on to another project, so going back is not so easy, they have to remember everything (might have to restudy their own code even), also need to reinstall a bunch of things (code + assets). So, usually, it's not happening. That's why the best way to ensure "future patches" is simply to directly add unlocked modes in the first version of the game. Those modes could even self unlock after a specific timestamp if you really don't want to have them directly visible, or with a special trigger (like old cheats in 16 bit consoles).

No
The one with less pixels and lower FPS will be my default version always. Im always signing online petitions to port games for my megadrive.

I play them all on PC because that is the best platform I have. Why wouldn't you get them for the best console if you don't have a PC?

Not necessarily. I suspect that some multi-console owners like myself buy them for specific reasons. My Series X is for digital purchases, and free Destiny 2 Crucible play. My PS5 is for disc games. My Switch is my main platform because of its ease of switching between handheld and tv play.

If I ever get a Pro 5 I'll likely buy big games on that platform, but despite its power, it's not my favorite platform.

I'll probably avoid most 3rd party games and see what Xbox does since most of my library is there. I'll jump on a few sales if they're worth it.

Is this a joke thread???

Why buy a PS5 Pro if you aren't going to buy games on it???

Unless you have a $3000 PC with a 4080/4090 it doesn't make any sense

Xbox platform/store is dying as well, I would never buy third party games on that store unless it's backwards compatibility titles for retrogaming

If you own all consoles than yes it makes sense technically but sometimes games feel better on certain platforms and that's a but subjective.
