I just wish developers played their own games. Reminds of Cyberpunk on last gen. There is no way they played Alan Wake 2 and Jedi Survivor and went that's an improvement. Happened with the PS4 Pro with Skyrim where it ran a lot worse than on the base system because 4k was too much. I don't have much hope. Should just preserve all existing modes as an easy way out because their incompetent.

Deffo looks like the mission objective Cerny went for when designing the pro.

Stellar Blade has 5 modes iirc, resolution and framerate for base console and resolution, framerate and pssr enhanced for Pro.

Personally I would’ve wanted the full graphics settings menu, like on PC. That way I could tweak things exactly as I want it. Just call it Pro Settings and throw it all in there.

Cerny only wanted to sell the power console factor, so you could have similar IQ to quality modes at 60fps or higher as possibility.

From day 0 in the PS blog they already commented about improving both modes quality and frame rate in several games.

The same people is complaining about multiple settings, are the same people after complain Bloodborne is locked at 1080p and 30fps in superior hardware

Sony needed a holiday tent pole, and they have something to backfill some of this years…”softer” performing releases.

Also who in their right mind wants to release a console in Q1 or Q2 of 2025?

This is what happens when things are released too early.

PS5 Pro owners are basically beta testing the hardware.

IMO, this should have released next summer or fall to give developers more time to
see what the system is capable of doing.

Explain the shadow flickering in DD2 on PC when using DLSS then? Or other games that have issues with DLSS? AI upscaling isn't foolproof no matter what platform we are talking about.

Thankfully, it can be turned off on PC and so that is an option folks want on PS5 Pro. Makes sense as there are obviously some games that need more work early on.

“PSSR is amazing, but it is not the magic bullet that fixes all image quality problems that some games have if you just replace the previous upscaling solution with this new one,” one fan noted on Reddit. “It still needs to be properly implemented and tested. Maybe Sony should mandate that all PS5 Pro patches need to still include all modes of the standard PS5 version.”

Makes sense. New tech growing pains shouldn't prevent people from being to play the game in base PS5 mode until the devs figure out how to fix their issues.

Already have a couple PCs but there is no settings menu for Stellar Blade there because it’s not out yet. So 🤷‍♂️

Already have PCs, problem here is that some devs mess up the preset modes and there is no way to fix it besides complaining and hoping they hear the complaints.

It’ll improve with time. It’s fine. I’m playing rebirth at mo, and quality mode is chugging, def not 30fps, am on the versatile mode now, and it’s good.

I blame Phil over at Xbox for not releasing Series X Pro and pushing Sony to it's true potential. I also blame Phil for my ex wife cheating on me with my neighbor.

I always thought that console makers should allow a toggle on pro consoles that allows you to play the base version. partly to avoid issues like this, but also to open up more options.

like, how would the Series S version of Elden Ring run on Series X for example? could that have been a way to get a locked 60fps?
or maybe some people don't like the look of CBR, or the framerate isn't as stable due to the increased resolution... stuff like that.

I'll be honest i bought the Pro knowing it wasnt worth it but i want the best version of consoles and might allow me to choose performance mode more, so bought it anyway, and gotta say it has been worse than i expected.

no hdmi 2.1 bandwidth increase, no clear upgrade to the current game i am playing (DA: Veilguard, still have to play in Quality mode to get decent PQ), SH2 i didnt finish yet and was waiting for Pro but that looks worse too, Horizon forbidden west has been the most impressive game and that already looked pretty good anyway feels like lol

I have been watching footage of certain games using PSSR and this is embarrassing for Sony

I am not surprised that people are angry
I actually think it’s way more embarrassing for the devs.

Let’s say they implemented pssr, took a step back and saw their work on screen, said to eachother ”yeah maybe pssr isn’t ready yet” and then still goes ahead and publish their update? Glasses aren’t that expensive…

Rebirth is on Unreal Engine 4 and it's widely praised as a having a transformative implementation of PSSR. Although in it's case it's base PS5 version performance mode IQ was woeful.
But i'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, it is early days.
 
It absolutely should be mandatory to include both the original graphics modes alongside the new Pro ones in my opinion. The Pro is not aimed at casuals who likely never go into the Graphics settings never mind change them so more choice for the Pro users is essential. I personally do not like the way many games are replacing or removing the original modes as the Pro patches are, as we all know now, now all great with too many games having worse image quality. That is not what I expected from the Pro at all. Ubisoft are the worst offenders removing two (or is it three?) modes from Star Wars Outlaws and replacing it with a single one when it should have left the originals in and added the Pro one for a total of three (or four?) selectable modes.

I suspect that many of these Pro patches have been rushed out to hit the console's launch, perhaps pressured by Sony themselves because without these then the console would have been an even harder sell since it launched with no new games (and even the recent LEGO Horizon Adventures launched with no Pro enhancements).

While I am mostly happy with the Pro, it is disappointing to see such a mixed bag of Pro enhancements. The first party Sony games predictably fare the best but it seems like third-parties either aren't as committed to supporting the Pro well or maybe just had less time to deploy their patches for the launch? Sony need to step in here and curate Pro patches going forward to ensure they meet the quality expected of a Pro Enhanced patch.

You only really need to look at the trajectory of DLSS and XESS to see what the trajectory of PSSR will be. It's an AI trained model that gets better with more training and more data. I wouldn't be remotely concerned at all.
