Rip and tear day one.

FPS have to be played to feel the goodness and this game has so many difficulty sliders for speed, parry windows, etc that I have full faith it’ll be a rush when I’m hands on.

Game will fuck.

The whole art design looks so boring to me.

Just a bunch of generic temples and generic looking horned demons.
Art direction is the low point of the series imo. It looks absurdly generic and the combo of drab levels and eye-searing neon projectiles and possibly one of the ugliest HUDs in FPS history is crazy. There's just zero personality or anything beyond some meme-level interpretation of Doom to me.

I feel like they've completely lost the plot with all this bullshit like dragon flying because "duhhh Metal memes lol" and parrying and open levels with objectives and what not.

Will take some getting used to and it's definitely not for everyone. Same with Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal being quite different from one another. You either like it or you don't. Not a right or wrong answer to be had here.
It looked way better on the higher gamespeed.
From a few of these video's I only don't like that the guns don't seem to do all that much and it's a little too focused around the shield and melee weapon.

I’m lukewarm on the gameplay shown, but everyone that played it seems to like it a lot, so I’m still hopeful.

Especially Digital Foundry’s John liking the gameplay lifts my spirits, since he always likes old school stuff.

I still think they went overboard with the ingame GUI elements. Everything interactable is glowing and pickups are even having this pillar of light. Can this not be more subtle?
Like instead of a glowing purple ring around the monster to indicate you can finish them off, just make them bleed purple stuff out of their mouth or something.

It’s like it is designed for touch screen devices..

I like how you can customize pretty much everything down to gamespeed. Enemies do look weaker and faster to kill, but there are bigger numbers in return. On the other hand its less rigid than Eternal and you can do what you want. I wonder how it will fare. Its looks fun to me.

UI is horrible, but this was the same for the prequels.

Makes me want to install Doom 2016 & Doom Eternal on my Steam Deck...then I rememeber how 'big' games like this on such a small screen are so underwhelming with no sense of immersion, no matter how well they run.

I'd much rather have something that was fine-tuned for balance, or difficulty/rewards that scaled with your skill level. I'm always worried about breaking something or not playing as intended with these kind of customisable sliders for everything.

It's a bit like ordering a Bloody Mary at a bar and they just dump the ingredients on the counter and ask you to mix it yourself. You're the barman, you mix me a killer cocktail, it's why I came here. I should be able to trust your judgement over mine. I shouldn't have to be tweaking sliders for a game to play naturally. That to me says that there are issues with balancing that they couldn't resolve. Yet another red flag with this game.

The projectiles and UI indicators remind me of a rhythm action game. I've been playing Rage 2 again recently (still holds up and blows the piss out of m0dErN games) and seeing Dark Ages next to it looks like a massive step back. Games are regressing badly.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I didn't expected such a cold welcome from gaf for a doom game...
Imo the initial reveal looked way better, plus some people (myself included) really enjoyed Eternal so this looking like a way slower game is kind of a disappointment. Also all the simon-says stuff with the color coding is quite lame imo.

Will still play it, game looks cool but probably not at full price.

I think it looks great. Insta-buy from me.
I like what i see except for the dragon and mecha sections but i understand all the critics, the game looks definitely slower and easier than eternal and more melee based.

Luckily for me, i don't really enjoy super fast paced arena fps so slowing down a little and having large spaces and melee weapons is right up my alley.

Also no more glory kills or platform sections, thank god.

Yeah i perfectly understand all the critics.

Hopefully the game was being played on normal so we only saw journalist mode.

Same. The dragon sections looked really poor. The Mech sections actually looked quite good, could be a nice chance of pace for a level or 2.

I didn't like Eternal at all, but loved 2016. Hopefully this one hits for me as well, I do like what I've seen so far. Should run like a champ on PC which is always a bonus.

The colored circles...I can't stand them. Hated them in GoW Ragnarok as well.
Why..just why?It looks awful and immersion breaking. If you introduce parries, the attack animation should be all you need for the player to decide whether to parry, dodge, or block.
Yeah that's one of my gripes to be fair.

I don't see why you just can't parry any projectile you want back and drop the colours. Is what it is ill reserve judgment on that until I play. I'm sure there will be a way to mod it out if it sucks.

Yeah the coloured projectiles look a bit dumb and immersion wrecking but it is that or having parriable stuff all looking the same for clarity purpose.

At least the color code make them able to make different type of projectiles that only share color.

Unless it's a game where you can parry everything like sekiro, i don't know how you can make parriable ballons without some sort of graphic difference tbh, it is shape or color, not many other options, but then again, i don't make games for a living.

How do you apply that to guns and projectile tho? They don't have animations, just a shape and color.

After the preview essentially say the same thing, lots of cutscenes with a focus of boring shit lore dump no one cares about by destiny look alike characters, im skipping.

I adored 2016, I never finished eternal, this seems to be doubling down on all the shit eternal did, plenty of good boomer shooters on the market now, that do Doom better than Doom, or at least better than this by the looks of it.

After watching the DF video John put together I actually don't think the game looks bad to play at all. That dragon section looks shite though, I can see players and reviewers being quite critical of these and the mech sections. They just look like a waste of time.

I am neither happy or upset about these videos, which could be a problem in its own right, but I am worried it will miss the feeling of Doom. Not having that constant up close and personal fighting in tight places might hurt it. Yeah the newer Dooms had a ranged weapon or 2, but there seems to be too much space and area between you and the enemies in this from what is shown.

I'm not against new mechanics like the dragon, but people said it got quite boring very quickly. It seems like padding and I hope if all of this is true, that there isn't too much of it.

I will wait and see more videos, especially unedited pure gameplay, before I decide whether to buy it. I will definitely not pay the "Microsoft charging an embarrassing amount for their games at £70 so you feel like Gamepass is your only real logical choice" tax either (base game is about £52 on sites like cdkeys, but still a fair chunk)

Hugo mentioned in an interview they want you to get up close and personal with the demons when fighting hence the emphasis on parrying and short range weapons only. There are no weapons similar to the heavy cannon or the ballista.

£50 for a 2025 is a great price IMO. Game pass is an alternative if you don't wish to purchase the game outright.

Really excited about the shield traversal and parry mechanics. Love the look and atmosphere and larger enemy count. Seeing all the custom sliders pretty much guarantees I'll love it. Have to temper my excitement since it's unlikely the steamdeck can handle it but otherwise would be day one.

Did Bethesda really not invite Civvie 11 to the preview event? That’s a preview I’d be interested in.
Might have lost is gamer cred after getting filtered by Eternal. :goog_relieved:

But yeah I agree, would have enjoyed his preview of Dark Ages.
