Day 1 release Vs. nearly 2 year delay. Why is the importance of day 1 so hard for so many people to grasp? Game sales are MASSIVELY front loaded and do a fraction of a fraction of their potential 1-2 years late. Conservatively, day and date 16 would have done 200-300K CCU easily, maybe more. Sony's $15 million dollar check torpedoed that game into the darkest depths of the ocean.

2D turn base game vs AAA mainline Final Fantasy

Absolutely wrecked no matter how you slice it. Dragon Quest is overperforming and deserves to be recognized for it.

Cool story bro

Many people are morons.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
The only good FF game is V.

Dragon Quest? Now those are good videogames, glad to see them getting more recognition.

An excellent result, a classic that deserves such attention.

In the end, it will definitely not bypass FF16 and FF7R, for several reasons. First, we are now seeing a fairly large push from Japanese players, it will not last long, second, it is not the longest game, I do not know how much new content it has, but the original game, if you know what to do, can be completed in 25 hours, if you do not know and are not in a hurry, in 35 hours. Therefore, most likely, we will see an outflow of people by Monday - Tuesday of next week.

Because no matter how much FF 16 is criticized, you will have to hang out in it for 38-40 hours if you know what to do, if you do everything for 60 hours, and if you also do New Game Plus, then for all 80. It is much longer =)

But in any case, this is a very good rush, especially for a 2D old school RPG.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
That's really the highest for a single-player Squeenix game? That's a little shocking, honestly. I guess the late launches and somewhat recent leap in Steam users probably play a part.

Either way, cool to see DQ doing well. I can't wait to start playing the game, myself.

We will see the true peak over the weekend. Probably Sunday morning (US time) before Japanese players go to bed.

The game is very eye-catching and has good word of mouth. Should sell extremely well over the next few days. I wonder if it can hit 80k... huge if so.

This seems like it will be a success for Square. Happy for them.

I really really really really want to see Switch numbers in Japan, and Fimitsu isn't coming out until the end of the month...

I wanna see switch numbers here…I dipped a few times on this. Really hoping my “over 40 crowd” showed up to support the Hero!

Not over 40 though, but almost 😭

Real talk though, how does player choice in modern games pale so badly in comparison to 25+ year old games?

There’s more substantial choice in the opening personality quiz than all of Veilguard.

Don’t wanna talk to the king in the beginning? Don’t have to.

You found the quest objective! Take it or nah?

I’m only 4ish hours in and this game repeatedly gives Hero choices that matter.

Devs have to trend chase. When your core market is focused on social engagement and you know keeping their attention for longer than 10 minutes is impossible…you need to streamline everything and feed them products that reflect what they are seeing on social media.

Just my guess…I’m so outside of a “core market” they don’t care what I think (well they won’t care until I stop buying three copies of every game I buy).

But i have hope that publishers will realize that I’m the same 40+ year old guy that played their games when i was 7…same dude that spent thousands of hours pouring over Nintendo power, game pro, and egm.

Same dude…some refined tastes…but now I would pay $200 dollars for a game that comes in a cardboard box and has a 45 page color manual.

Turns out there’s a high demand for turn based JRPGs that are done well.

And this game is very well done!

Chrono trigger next please Jesus….

They sold millions on ps5

The real question - does launching increase sales at all, or just shift them?

LOL at remake of a 36 year old game doing better than latest AAA extravaganza FF16 simply by launching day one

FF16 could have had 200K CCU if it launched alongside PS5 version, if not more.

Well deserved, it’s a great game.
These numbers vs FFXVI is a compelling sign for what jrpg gamers want.
Most people don’t like the giant incoherent mess that is FF nowadays.

and? Would that have increased the sales?

Or just shifted them? The latter doesn’t matter for Square

Less than Dragon Age ( a far inferior game) and we again fall into the lame trope of creating threads on steam metrics when the games performance is just a fraction of the console versions.
It’s like creating a thread for how many viewers a wnba game received. Lame

And that's at $60 for a remake of a 36 year old turn based pixel game. The fact that Nu-Final Fantasy "fans" think that turn based is an outdated concept that won't sell makes this all the more sweet. Hopefully this at least makes S-E consider various options. I'd love to see FFVI get this treatment (censorship aside).

I picked it up myself but haven't had time to start it yet.

It's dragon quest though? I don't think draque should be used as a barometer for turn based pixel games as a genre.

I don't see why not, is it not a turn based pixel game? It's arguably one of THE turn based pixel game IPs.

Also draque? 🤮

Because dragon quest is basically a national institution in japan. There are plenty of turn based games that don't have a built in audience that dragon quest does. It's like pointing to call of duty and saying that halo should become that.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I think most fans of final fantasy have a PlayStation and after accounting for them there isn’t a huge audience left straggling on pc

Were that the case, Square wouldn't be feverishly making public declarations of making their future projects multi-platform.
