Silent Hill 2 is the best remake of all time.

I was always partial to the Super Mario Bros quadrilogy NES remakes on the SNES in Super Mario All Stars.

In truth, I really love the Silent Hill 2 remake but it does drag on in places. I guess that is a part of the "modern audience" today's devs try to capture. I mean, imagine releasing a game today that is a remake of an all time classic, and the game today is ONLY 5 hours long? The modern audience would complain it's not long enough!!!

I for one just think that remakes should do justice to the original whilst improving aspects of gameplay for us today (much like the Dead Space remake did).
It's funny because while I was playing I would 100% agree with you, but in retrospect, the game was a good length. It was just so intense that it was tough to get thru. I've never felt a more intense game go on for so long.

My biggest and only issue with SH2remake is it goes little too long, no matter how good horror game is the longer it goes the less scary it becomes because we get used to the tension and in SH2 there are not that many enemy types that can support long run.

Other than that SH2 remake was great and I especially like the changes they made with some of the boss fights.
The enemy variety I agree. It seems Bloober wanted to add new enemies to justify the longer run but Konami and the ex Team Silent members involved were adamant about having the same variety as in the OG sh2, such a shame.

The thing is enemies in SH2 is very much tied to its narrative, if they wanted add new enemy type it needs to make sense in context of the story.

Considering all the new endings and the new additions in general are tied to sh2 I can see them making new varieties with the help of Ito

This. Each element is very specific to the narrative, so adding new enemies would be a no go without a lot of consulting. It is just one of those things that would have been too hard to pull off, but damn what they gave us was great.

I do agree that most of the increased runtime was likely due to the "I'm not paying full price for a 8 hour game" crowd.

I mean it would be technically Ito the one who would had made the new enemies

Well said. I think you're 100% spot on.

AITD 2024, for me, is a good example of this. SH2make is a more impressive game but it's length prevents me from ever wanting to play it again.

AITD was heavily roasted for a variety of reasons and it's length was one of them. It'll take on average probably 7 hours to complete. I've put 40+ hours into AITD with various playthroughs. Short and sweet, does not overstay its welcome.

I consider REmake, RE4R, and SH2R to be the best remakes of all time, so I’m fine with this. Bloober did an amazing job here and they deserve recognition. I think it’s legit one of the scariest games ever made.
