Dusk Golem: Capcom wants RE9 to reach a level of critical success to get a 90+ critical score

Hear me out: something similar to Resident Evil 6, but actually scary this time. Some of Leon's sections were really intense, but on the whole, while I still like the game, it's not very scary. Give us multiple cast members but make it scary this time.

I do hope their next game scores well. I also hope it's not a paint-by-numbers approach where they hyper analyze what's popular or trending or cherry pick things that people like about previous games to try to make some chimera of popular ideas at the cost of creative vision or direction.

People liked when Leon said "No thanks, bro!" add that!

People didn't like having yellow tape on everything. Take that out!

Make it scary! But not too scary!

Now it's a carefully measured corporate product geared to tick the most boxes and please the widest audience instead of just a good survival/horror game. 9 is supposed to be the end of the Ethan Winters story right?

Well they can dredge up a 5 remake and have the criticisms the original had due to the setting.... then 6 remake? They're right in wanting 9 to be a success. They still haven't been able to crack the multiplayer formula for the franchise other than the occasional co-op so they really need to make a good game if they want people to stick around for 10

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

I personally prefer one or two character at most to focus on

They already got it with RE2R. Which I thought was weaker than RE7 / RE8.

So, whatever.

If they are aiming for 90+ though, most likely will be RE4 type game. 25 hrs, breezy pacing, variety and maybe set pieces. Lets see how it turns out.

Basically it means they want to make a game that check every box of a what should be a modern game for the current audience, without challenging those preconceived ideas one tiny bit.

It's supposedly been wrapped up with the dlc, so 9 will most likely be about chris and wolf squad going after the BSAA
I wish they'd give Claire or Jill a mainline game that isn't a remake.

I understand why they keep using Chris cause he's an OG but Jill is too. We got Sherry in a mainline game before Jill and Claire. 😑

Hoping for a return to 3rd person. I don't mind 1st person games, but imo RE games has always been a 3rd person game to me.

I don't know about 90+ metacritic but a nice step would be to stop making a fantastic first half just to end up in a predictable and boring super action focused second half that drags on for too long.
They dropped the ball in 7 with the ship, they dropped the ball in 8 with the factory.

This series has sequelitis.

They should make a horror style game under a different brand or start focusing on more substantive offerings.

And it's pretty obvious that this isn't the only franchise from them that's getting stale *cough* monster hunter *cough*

Considering the "most ambitious" rumours, it could very well be an avengers endgame situation where everyone relevant shows up if the BSAA is indeed the big bad now.

I need to look up how well Death Island did compared to the other RE movies excluding the Milla Jovovich one. Death Island is basically the Avengers moment of RE.

Get rid of rose and ethan, bring back the old cast , make the game more creepy, don't copy RE6's formula, and there you go.

I appreciate the leak but, "company wants game to be well received" isn't exactly groundbreaking info, Dusk! How about leak the release date? ;)

These were Remakes. They want a 90+ Score for a new entry

Perhaps I should have been clearer in what I wrote, if they want to break free from the Mikami/Kamiya legacy then they should be aiming *higher*, 95+, that's how you really know they've succeeded. Either way I don't care about the scores, there day 1 for any RE.

Please don't be a Jill game. I'm over her after RE3make ruined the character. I'll take literally anyone else.

You want 90+? Make it third person and bring back Leon.

'Company wants product to be good' is the exact sort of amazing insider knowledge I expect from Dusk.

Honestly, I loved Revelations 2 so at least that gave me some Claire (plus the 2 remake), hell they even brought back the best RE character: Barry Burton!

Jill is definitely due to return. Honestly, what a missed opportunity in Village when Chris is headed towards the village with his squad to not use that moment to reveal they’re all RE characters: Jill, Rebecca, Sheva, Jake, Sherry, etc. (I even want to say Billy, but he’s probably the least likely character of all to return sadly) I’m only omitting Leon and Claire because Chris and Leon usually butt heads and Chris might have issues working with Claire without being overprotective of her so those two would likely not be on Chris’ squad. Still a hype moment, going through the village as Chris with that music was sick, but man I was hoping the squad would be characters we actually knew.

They also need to stop advancing the timeline based on the current year. I mean, if the Rose Winters DLC can take place plenty of years later, why can’t the next game just take place shortly after Village instead of 2024? Like, not all the RE games set in 1998 released in 1998, so I don’t know why Capcom suddenly refused to apply comic book time progression (like since their first issues in the 1960’s, Marvel comics have progressed like a decade in-universe up to today) like they sorta do with Street Fighter.

Welp, Capcoms TGS presentation is done, next hope for RE9 reveal is The game awards at the end of the year. Capcom probably wants more focus on DD2 DLC and Monster Hunter for now.

Hopefully both and then also VR support.
This is what I'm thinking as well. The rendering budget is very different between the two, so you probably can't switch on the fly. Without the main character on the screen eating up polygons and hair effects you can crank up the detail everywhere else.

Also better than RE4(the remake not original).

I wouldn't go that far. RE4 remake is the best RE title we've had since... RE4. Village is incredibly strong though, and like I said I don't think it quite gets its dues. RE9 will have to be really something to top it imo.

After playing RE4, they got their work cut out for them. Village was great but like, that RE4 remake + Separate Ways is gonna be hard to top.
