Split Fiction - Reviews Thread

Bought it for 45 euros, which nowadays is a crazy low price and I'm here for it. Played a few levels with my brother and it's fun! But it didn't grab me right from the start, certainly not as much as It takes Two did. But we did have some cool parts.

However, not yet any parts where I'd go "10/10" but I expect a lot more is awaiting us.

Playing through this with my kid just like we played through It Takes Two, they've done it again, fucking great game.

Yeah me and a buddy played a couple hours tonight and this is fantastic. We're both having a blast. He didn't like It Takes Two due to the characters but he's loving this much more

Played for five hours straight with my girlfriend. We both couldn't believe we had played that long. The time pretty much flew by. Game is really great so far.

I think the pig level is the greatest gaming experience in my life. I played it with my 8 year old and my nearly 6 year old was watching.

How is difficulty compared to ITT? I played that one with my daughter when she was 6. She isn't much of a gamer but we managed and by the time we were fighting bees I didn't even need to help her anymore. Now she is 8 but she still doesn't play all that much.

Never played any Hazelight game and none of my rl friends use mics, do these games require some sort of voice coordination? Or can you play it with reasonable amount of comfort without it?

So you're forced to play the game in split screen even as a single player? If that's a case that is a hard pass for me. It's the same reason why I skipped It Takes Two.
...you can't play the game as single player, it's a game designed for co-op.

My buddy and I played through A Way Out and It Takes Two and we started this last night. We like it better than It Takes Two so far. It’s just a fun game that you can play for hours and not get bored.

Dafaq, they want $50 for this? I'm sure it's good but damn.
Worth it mate. Way better than most of the AAA slop that gets lapped up. Also I only paid $30 AUD for mine with EB trade deal. Was trade 2 get it for free and I only paid $30 for the two games.

Edit - Also you could split the cost with someone and play with the friend pass so it's not too bad.

Pretty much the same difficulty, it's like ITT with a fresh new coat of paint, which is exactly what I wanted.

The amount of time split screen couch co-op has been called a niche in this thread is weird. Not saying you guys are wrong. In fact, you're 100% right. But man we've come a long way from the days of accusing your best friend of screen peeking on a tiny(relatively) CRT.

No OT for this game?
Anybody wants to co-op this (maybe platinum together) I'm playing on PS but that doesn't matter because of cross platform.
My PSN id is - Heaven_Angel52

GOTY so far for sure, I played about 5 hours with my son over the weekend and we had a blast.

It's more challenging than It Takes Two, I find. There's been quite a few trickier gameplay moments that require tight hand eye coordination -- I wouldn't want to try this with a non-gamer or inexperienced one. We're both fine and not really getting stuck beyond 3 or 4 deaths in tough spots but my wife would've been a nightmare to play with. Never punishes you much for dying of course but a certain point you have to execute on things.

With It Takes Two they killed Nintendo, with Split Fiction they buried them. I honestly can't see how Nintendo can make anything on the same level with their platformers, let alone top it.

The polish, art design, level design, attention to details, insane variety of gameplay etc is simply on another level here.

98% positive on Steam is spot on

The game made by a team of ~80 people, ladies and gentlemen.

I can't wrap my head around what the fuck those 300+ ppl companies are doing when they produce those turds one after another

what are you supposed to do if you don’t have any friends?
Find someone online or just not play it? Co-Op only games are an incredibly rare thing so if you can't find someone to play the game with then you've got plenty of other choices out there, but for those of us who do have people to play the game with, it's a blast having a game designed in such a way that means it requires both of you to work together back and forth on all sorts of things.

That isn't exactly true:

Over 1200 people credited, and I went through and manually counted 280+ people who did significant work on the game, excluding all the voice acting, localization, and marketing.

How come any time somebody else makes a good platformer someone has to come out like “oh yeah Nintendo is cooked baby” — same with Astro Bot last year. There exists space in this world for more than one good game in this genre. 3D Mario will be just fine — and in fact I would bet on it getting even better reviews than either game and selling way more too.

i'll be honest there was a stretch of the game before the last chapter of the game where it felt like they ran out of ideas and it was just simple platforming, but the last chapter was some of the best stuff i have ever played

I actually really like the story in this one, not so much the plot as that’s pretty thin with a one dimensional villain but moreso the characters and their relationship and the performances there. Really grows and has a decent amount of depth and well acted by the two leads. Plus how nice it is to have a story these days where two women meet and just become friends without a hint of rainbow undertones.
