Elden Ring is ok

The game is amazing. I get it if some people aren't into it but you can't deny that the Souls games are fantastic.

It's like me shitting on GOW and TLOU. I'll never say those games are trash (because they aren't) but I have no interest in them and don't want to play them.

I put nearly 300 hours in ER and whether it was solo or coop, some of the best gaming I've ever had. Coop all day for me though, it's just so damn fun and basically turns the game into a really intense Gauntlet style arcade game with buddies. It's hilarious too, so much random shit can happen and a good run can go south in an instant over some Leroy Jenkins scenarios. Yea it's frustrating but the laughs make it all worth it. Getting invaded by some scrub and triple teaming him to oblivion, it's fantastic!

I'm actually doing Bloodborne now, some solo, some coop. I just wrecked a few bosses and feeling pretty damn awesome. Also beat Demon's Souls for PS5 last year. The games honestly aren't that difficult/frustrating once you give it some time and come to terms with what the game requires of you. Yea it will still kick your ass but you turn into a tank for the most part and feel like it....mostly. Victory is so damn satisfying in these games and the art style, music, etc. They're all masterpieces as far as I'm concerned.

Also, ER is by far the most approachable Souls game. Everyone says it and it's true, you can spend dozens of hours just dicking around, exploring, grinding. The game rarely forces you to hurtle yourself at a boss over and over. The game is massive.

I just bought the second issue of the ER manga and came back to this thread.
Talk about destiny.

Keep playing OP, sounds like you're in for a good time.

I didn't care for it. I don't like soulslike games but since everyone was raving about it I rented it. Just don't have gittin gud in me I guess.
This big mistake I see lot of people do, you should buy games based on your tase and hype not everyone else is.

You have your own taste everyone else have theirs. Everyone going crazy about BG3 but it doesn't matter to me because it not type of game I enjoy no matter how much everyone hyping about it.

Yeah, that's why I rented it. Wanted to make sure I would like it before I committed to the game. I thought maybe open world would make it more appealing but I just couldn't get there.

Alright lads I really don't like those fucken souls games, and even more that all the shitty cheap indie knockoffs are always popping up on Steam. Pisses me right off. If indie devs started doing their own thing instead of wish.com'ing Dark Souls, games would jump in quality a lot. Fuck that stupid bullshit.

And don't fucken come in here mouthing off you melt. Read on, yeah?

A couple of the geezers on this forum told me Elden Ring is good, and someone said it's different to the other Fromsoftware games, so I put it on my backlog and forgot about it.

Then this happened - https://www.neogaf.com/threads/yeah-no-its-fucking-hard.1662020/ Randy Orton talking about Elden Ring.

I've been burned out and miserable on games in general lately and for 25 readies in the sale, it's worth a shot.

Game downloaded, I boot it up. Max out all the settings + ray tracing...

Instantly: Oh for fuck sake, it's a fucken souls reskin

First off, shut the fuck up. I guarantee anyone about to start mouthing off is like this fucken melt:

So, I bang out the tutorial area and piss about and instantly I'm hooked.

Sneaking and stealth kills? Nice.

I was wandering around a field and saw some dopey kunt carrying a trumpet - right he's getting fucken knifed for being a twat. Then I do his mates in and have a picnick at a campfire but then - hello hello!

Alright love? Anime babe with wavy pink hair turns up. Missing an eye but her smooth voice makes up for that. Proper nice girl. She wants to hold my hand Beatles style or something, I haven't got a clue about the story.
She chats a few times at different picnicks - I'm having a great time!

The game itself is amazing. It's like Breath Of The Wild - no shitty cutscenes or stupid nonsense - you get a direction and go explore. It's not even a hard game. You make your own memories and story.

Have a bubble at this - I was wandering around and some tree started talking, I give it a slap and it turned into a cool rat person. Having a good chat and I killed the nearby enemies so he'd be safe. Poor boy has had a rough time at home and all he needs is a mate.
Later I wandered into a cave and some nasty kunts had roughed him up!
I'm not having this, he was my mate.
I put down a message "time for revenge!" or something. I get some praise and head in to murder every last nasty kunt who picked on my lovable rat mate. Fucken pissed me right off.
I can summon some wolves or a jellyfish to fuck these kunts up too. But I didn't. This was personal.

Where was I? Oh yeah.
I got to the castle and the boss is giving it large, fifty arms poppin out of his arse and all this shit. I give him a slap then he decides to weld a fucken dragon to his arm and does me in! For fuck sake, two can play at that you bender. I summon 2 mates in to help me out and we fuck him right up!
Not quoting Shakepseare now, are you? You fucken mug!

I was cringing like fuck at the opening with some old twat giving it the "Double, double toil and trouble" nonsense. Then he popped a viagra and started going "ooooh!" Fuck sake man, had to jump to lower the volume. What the fuck was that?!
But, 8.6 hours on Steam in 2 sittings, I think I'm addicted.
The fact that people that hate souls game likes or even loves Elden Ring says all you have to know about this fucking game ... worst souls game by a mile and a 1/2...and I wont judge as anything else ..It is a souls like game by the souls genre creator ... just hope that Miyazaki has moved to something else and "team B" handles the inevitable cash grab sequel

Why not? People said the same thing with Sekiro and but I played both Elden Ring and Sekiro multiple times.

I would say Armored Core VI has much better and more interesting NG+.
Very honestly I don't know. I just know I have multiple replays in Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, and in Bloodborne, but I can't stick with any replays on Elden Ring for long. Maybe the size of it is what's killing it for me. Maybe I'll be better able to replay it in a few years.

Elden ring was quite a lot of fun the first time through. The sense of exploration and discovery is unmatched. You really feel like you're in a hostile world that doesn't care whether you are there or not.

Everything else is kinda ...meh. The combat is painfully basic. The graphics are ok. The story is non existent. The bosses can be quite good but I can't say they were particularly memorable. There's really too much, it's all disjointed and often feels random, and you walk away thinking "I liked what I just played but I have no idea why exactly".

Bloodborne was a good balance and my favorite game from FROM. Darks souls was too samey after 1, and I actually preferred demons souls.

the souls formula is good but really needs a competent fighting system and good story to go along with it. Also I thought Sekiro was tedious and boring. I played all souls games mostly blind, and I still love them, but I think I got too burnt out on the formula. Had elden ring been my first souls game I probably be jumping up and down like many others.

By Ok, he is saying the game is really good. what I gleaned from this post description.

Elden Ring should have been a little easier. melee is just too damn hard, I'm glad I switched to Arcane build. Now I can actually play the game, which is not beating bosses but seeing all this gorgeous vistas.

Only thing that makes Elden Ring not the BEST Souls game is due to it being the easiest FROM game to date.

I really hope this is not a new trend for souls games going forward.

Elden Ring is simply too long, everything after the big golden city feels ... stretched and imbalanced.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but the last third or so quite soured the experience for me, plus the Elden Beast has got to be the worst end boss of any souls game yet.

I loved it and put 300 + hours in to the the game and platinum it.......currently eagerly waiting for the DLC.

I'm sorry some people didn't enjoy it?🤷‍♂️

Small minority that didn’t. Just look at the reviews and the extremely high sales. And personally even though I’ve never done a Souls-like before, I have to say it’s one of the very best games I have ever played. Stopped at 60 hours, will finish it along with the DLC once that drops.

While I like Elden Ring quite a lot, I think the more claustrophobic, isolated feeling of earlier Souls games suite the gameplay and atmosphere better than an open-world. But that's just my opinion.

I've recently went back to Demon's Souls 2020 and I found myself enjoying fighting in tight corridors, gave me that kinda horror-game vibe of earlier Souls games that took quite a step back in Elden Ring.

I, too, would hope that they went back to actually skill-based fights instead of anime enemies with infinite+ stamina, zero recovery time and the most blatant input reading seen in a big production in quite some time.

I'd prefer a Dark Fantasy Hack and Slash that isn't as grindy as an MMO to feasibly progress anywhere. The SNK Boss Syndrome with shit camera and small arenas turned me off the game real fast halfway through. Requiring a player to read inputs like a Jedi Master for everything got old real quick.

It's got the BERSERK artstyle going for it but still hasn't come close to matching it's combat.

I think out of all the games From made Bloodborne and Sekiro are the best.

Would rather play DS3 over ER.

I'm retarded?
Elden Ring should have been a little easier.

Brother, the game is the easiest souls game ever made. Not only you have classic summons, you also have bell summons that just break the game and any boss entirely. You can shov both your hands in your ass and you'd have no issue beating the game if you use the bells or any of the hundreds of OP melee weapons. Naturally you're bad at the game if you cant beat the game at least once without any kind of summon but dont let me or anyone else stop you from enjoying the game as it was designed.

I don't know if Souls-like games are for me. I got Elden Ring due to the hype around it, but I can't motivate myself to play it any further than the opening area and the first cave-like area I found.

A great game held back by a relatively speaking pretty lacklustre second half. Basically Dark Souls all over again. Except instead of the game going to the total shitter post-Lordvessel, it drops in quality (but not as severely as DS1) after leaving Leyndell the first time. Mountaintops of the Giants is pretty shit, and Crumbling Farum Azula is meh.

I'm convinced the main reason why Elden Ring did as well as it did is because 1) it was most people's first Soulsborne, 2) it had some of that GRRM hype (but I have no idea what he actually did because everything felt pretty standard Miyazaki/From stuff to me), and 3) obviously the Soulsborne formula going open-world was a big deal.

Very solid game obviously, but Bloodborne and Dark Souls III has it clearly beat in my opinion.

10/10 thread

7/10 game due to the heavy asset recycling and general repetition.

Fuck Elden ring, truly one of the most - if.not the most - overhyped games of the past 5+ years

Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro are the best Souls game and some of the best games to date.

Dark Souls for creating a whole new genre and for being such a massive deviation for games back in 2012

Bloodborne for it's unparalled art direction to the point a remake is going to sell 40 million copies in a week.

Sekiro for the incredible addictive combat and shinobi setting that makes for an incredible journey.

Elden Ring is fantastic, but i dont think FromSoftware still quite got the open world aspect yet. You can see they tried to apply the semi open corridors combat to an open world from their past souls games and it didn't work very well. In fact, the best parts of Elden Ring are the dungeons.

The open world isn't totally suited to Elden Ring, it should stay like a semi-open world or linear, until someone figure it out the right way.
