WCW Thunder 1/10/2000
TO THE BACK. Ric Flair hard sells Sin. Sid vs Steiner for the title tonight! The mystery man is here.
Show run down. We'll also get Kronik vs Totally Buff. And a whole lot more!
TO THE BACK. Shane Douglas convinces the NBT to take out MIA for him.
Kwee Wee/Big Vito vs Palumbo/O'Haire
Paisley is wearing a baggy sweat shirt. Stevie says Kwee Wee's stock has dropped dramatically in the past few weeks. Tenay agrees. "Yeah, now what about that, Tony?" "Wooow, getting double teamed here." Paisley changes into Vito's jacket and hat. Tony may have jizzed in his pants. To be fair, she looked really hot in it.
Vito moves oddly in the ring. His head always looks so oily. Jamie Tucker, the ginger ref, put on probably 25 pounds over the past year. Chuck and Sean don't have the cool double team moves that Jindrak and O'Haire had. Reno Rolls the Dice on JTB on the floor. Seanton Bomb for the win. This was pretty long for a TV match. Reno also lays out Vito. His taunt looks like he's jerking off.
TO THE BACK. Gene is with Shane Douglas. He'll team with Stasiak and Jindrak. I think this is the first time I've heard Jindrak talk. Hugh was watching when Wall and Lash say they can't work because of blood work. "Do not let him SWERVE us!"
Filthy Animals vs Team Canada
Duggan is on color wearing a Cosby sweater.
Stevie asks how we are to believe Jim can call it down the middle when he turned on America just a few months ago. Stevie is again all over #hardbodiedref. The big HO gets the hairs on Duggan's arm stand up. "The what?" "Ho. Ohhh, I got it!" Dragon suplex from Prime Time almost gets the win. Really awkward tombstone reversal spot with Rey and Lance. YAK ATTACK! The YAK fight means they missed some significant spots in the ring. Lance catches a springboard rana into a Maple Leaf for the win.
TO THE BACK. Lash and Wall are trying to get some blood work done, but the trainer is nowhere to be found. The Thrillers arrive with ether and someone makes a Kool Aid Man reference.
A hilarious Ronnie Milsap commercial was included. This has to be a joke. It plays like a Mad TV sketch. It's just him with weird lighting playing piano by himself and singing snip its of songs over and over and over and over.
TO THE BACK. Lash and Wall are throwing up. Trainer won't let them wrestle. The Thrillers and Shane think it is great.
Gene is with Kronik. After a break, Gene is with Hugh. SWERVE is mentioned again. Two guys offered to join Hugh tonight. The Insiders! Nash spanks Gene. Gene liked it. Sid walks around and gets attacked by Steiner.
Shane Douglas/Jindrak/Stasiak vs General Rection/The Insiders
Holy shit, SWERVE is said another 5 times in 30 seconds. Shane is heated because he got out SWERVED. Hugh is in the ring most of the match. Shane won't get in unless Hugh is down. The rest of the Thrillers come out and knock the SHIT out of Nash. Palumbo punched his head off. It legit SHOOT shook Nash. Hugh beats Shane with a powerslam.
TO THE BACK. Gene is with the Thrillers. Gene is going to have Stasiak knee capped.
Harris Brother vs Meng
Who cares which brother it is. They switch, but Meng wins with a back suplex on whichever one switched. Kwee Wee runs in for a save and gets an H-Bomb. They tried it on Paisley. Knoble/Karagias/Jung Dragons for some reason try to attack or stop Meng.
Glacier hype video. I really hope he returns soon.
TO THE BACK. Norman hopes that Glacier got his fan letters.
The Cat and Ms. Jones come to the ring. He's going to eat Sanders' ass at Sin. What? Cat is heeling on the crowd and specific members of the audience. But he's the face? He's challenging fat asses to climb the rail and fight him. Sanders comes out. He's making a big announcement. Ms. Jones doesn't work for Cat, she works for WCW. If Sanders win, she becomes his assistant.
TO THE BACK. Ric is on the phone with someone.
Totally Buff vs Kronik
Fuck this. When Buff is the best guy in a match, you have problems. Goldberg arrives during this match and eventually arrives at the ring. He spears Crush while trying to spear Buff. Totally Buff bail out.
Sid comes out for a pre match promo. How do you punish a guy who walks out on your show because he didn't like his booking? Give him a title shot and a PPV main event, of course.
TO THE BACK. Steiner heads to the ring.
Scott Steiner vs Sid WCW Championship
Having Sid AND Steiner do double duty seems like a bad idea to me. Blatant low blows, blatant interference. "He just PUSSED him out of the ring, guys!" Sid is about to hit the powerbomb when the mystery man arrives. That's clearly Jeff Jarrett. The mask comes off and it's JEFF JARRETT! SWERVE! Wait, Ric Flair brings out the REAL mystery man. IT'S A SWERVED SWERVE! We're out of time, join us at Sin!
The run down for Sin:
Steiner vs Sid vs Jarrett vs Mystery Man WCW Championship
The Insiders vs NBT WCW Tag Team Championships
General Rection vs Shane Douglas First Blood Chain On A Pole WCW US Championship
Chavo Guerrero vs Shane Helms WCW Cruiserweight Championship
Crowbar vs Terry Funk vs Meng WCW Hardcore Championship
Mike Sanders vs The Cat WCW Commissionership
Team Canada vs Filthy Animals Canadian Penalty Box Match
Goldberg/Sarge vs Totally Buffed
Reno vs Vito
IMPORTANT OBSERVER NOTES (Thanks to Sunflower):
It was announced on 1/11/01 that WCW had been sold to Eric Bischoff and Fusient Media. The sale was to be final within 30-45 days. The plan going forward was to remove all sports media from TNT and place it on TBS. Bischoff wanted to drop one of the main shows. TBS still owned a portion of WCW to retain television rights, but not have to deal with the giant financial losses. Brad Siegel said TNT and TBS would promote WCW MORE now that they don't own it, which doesn't make any sense to me. There were again plans for a 2-3 week shut down and reboot, except this time the reboot would come very gradually, which also makes no sense to me. Why bother shutting it down just to continue to slowly phase out everything? Can't you do that just the same without taking weeks off for people to forget about your programs?
Revenue is a result of ratings is something Bischoff was saying on interviews at the time. Eric had non-concrete plans to move WCW to Vegas or
Orlando, as it would be much
cheaper to run from one location and rely on tourists to come to shows. And thus, TNA was born. Now obviously, this deal was never finalized. I don't know what happened, but something fell through last minute and all these plans were scrapped. Most of the ideas Eric had for WCW went straight to TNA, though.
