Football Thread 2016/17 & Offseason |OT2| Wenger In Fam! Wenger Out Blud!

Why does he wear the mask!?
Didn't happen with Zlatan and won't happen with Neymar.

Some of you heavily undervalue the Ligue 1, it's not that bad.
Ahahahaha

Zlatan and Neymar are completely different players

You're right though, people go hyperbolic over Ligue 1 all the time

Point was, even with Neymar, PSG aren't that good.
Couldn't disagree more, they'll be favorites alongside RM for the CL tbh. Their midfield is top three, easily. A spine of Neymar, Di Maria, Cavani, Verratti, & Rabiot is already excellent. Which includes one of the best front three's (presumably Emery plays a 433) in Europe. Good depth on the bench, & I imagine Alves will continue to be a force in the CL.

"Aren't that good" is a real disservice. Their showing vs Monaco earlier is already a great sign.

Only real doubt is Emery's ability, but his style has always been more suited for the CL.

They've got 2 Neymar's now?

There are some really bad teams in there.

Sure but not worse then some of the team in la Liga. Multiple double digits scorelines won't happen.

Maybe one but not much more.

I never said they were?

Zlatan was much more focused on imposing his superiority onto the league as you could see with a lot of his statement. That's something Neymar will not replicate in my opinion.

Well they clearly haven't.

They have. PSG are already in and it was a very unusual way of getting a player, certainly not something a club could do to build up from. When UEFA consider money spent on the stadium, wages, marketing and many other factors combined with no recent UEFA tournament history it prevents any club from doing what clubs like Chelsea, City and PSG did. Unless you happen to be a club with historic ties then thats fine as the rules are much looser for them.

The only point of FFP was to protect UEFA's viewing figures.

An unusual way of getting a player? Deliberately bypassing FFP by handing the money directly to the player from the owners is only "unusual"? Were there nothing dodgy about it PSG would have done it direct. They didn't.

How about that QTA sponsorship deal that PSG have, which was renewed in 2016, a mere €175m a year.

So one of the biggest upsets of the year so far with PSV losing 2-0 to NK Osijek on aggregate. First time since the 1973/74 season that PSV have failed to qualify for European football.

Crazy.

Thats just straight up financial doping both are loopholes around FFP. You're not going to get a team such as Stoke having the chance to push into the very top flight of football again using the methods originally used. Even if they did use the methods you mentioned they're not going to get investor to pump over 2 billion (probably need to be more like 4 now) into a club using self sponsorship and backdoor methods.

Ronaldo not Cr7. They made a paper about the top transfers of all time (analizing price , revenue etc ).

Oooh my mistake! And really???!?! At this kind of market? I thought it would be higher like in the 600-700 range.

Also mind linking the paper so i can read?

I'm still salty Liverpool letting him go. Rodgers make me sick, glad his dumbass is gone.

The Nuri Sahin situation irritates me more tbh. There must have been serious beef between them for him to leave after 5 months. I was so chuffed when he chose Liverpool over Arsenal.

Not a Rodgers fan by any means. But Suso had stagnated pretty heavily at Liverpool, needed to move to be honest.

As much as it pains me, I have to agree. He got his chance in 2012/2013 and he didn't take it. He was a starter the entire first half of the season. I still would have kept him though. The last thing we needed was another Dani Pacheco.

For shits and giggles, the conversion rates for some of players last season. This is their league and European stats only, no domestic cups.

Bas Dost 98/35 = 35.7%
Schick 43/11 = 25.5%
Kane 130/31 = 23.8%
Lukaku 110/25 = 22.7%
Suarez 141/32 = 22.6%
Messi 217/48 = 22.1%
Lewa 179/38 = 21.2%
Sanchez 144/27 = 18.7%
Costa 111/20 = 18%
Higuain 176/29 = 16.4%
Aguero 160/25 = 15.6%
CR7 231/35 = 15.1%
Benzema 106/16 = 15%
Zlatan 152/22 = 14.4%
Neymar 125/17 = 13.6%
Rppney 59/7 = 11.8%
Welbeck 19/2 = 10.5%
Bale 86/9 = 10.4%

This also. Again another case of Rodgers playing a player out of his position. Klopp while a Dortmund even made mention of this.

Not that it makes much difference but I think CR7 scored 12 goals in CL + 25 in the League, so it should be 37. Regardless it doesn't change much.

It's interesting to note, however, that him + Messi shot a whooooole lot more than anyone else in that list. Lewandowski and Higuain are the only ones that comes remotely close.

Weird, whoscored only lists him as getting 10 in the CL, but the UEFA site does indeed say 12. Takes CR7 to 16%.

Was on Sky ( Italy). Can't find it on google though. I sent a message ( twitter ) to a Sky journalist. I'm interested too.

Although you both are right, Rodgers didn't do him any favors by insisting on playing him on the wings instead of his natural position.

Suso doesn't even play at his "natural position" in Italy either, mostly playing on the right wing. And even when he was at Liverpool they had Coutinho and Sterling if they were going to play a traditional No. 10.

Rodgers did a lot wrong but there wasn't much to be done with Suso. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. He needed to move on for himself.
