Full game remakes of the first game in a series. Play remake or Original first?

So with Yakuza Kiwami coming out next year and me now owning all the gears games including Ultimate I've been thinking about when to play these full remakes in terms of a full series playthrough.

Should I simply skip the original versions of these games and play the remake instead?

It feels weird to skip playing the games that started the series.

Also I then will have to play games next in the series that are technologically less advanced.

Instead I think I should just play them by release date.

What are your thoughts on which you should play first?

I search which version is best and just play this.

And in my searchs it means unless it is resident evil, Metroid or super Mario Bros go with the original =P

The only Yakuza game I have played was Yakuza 2 so I'll begin with Zero and then move on to Kiwami. I am not interested in old versions

Depends on the remake. Some are best enjoyed later, some are best experienced as a replacement. It also depends on you as a gamer. Do you want to play every entry in a series. Do you want to play the same base game told differently twice? Care to see the diffences or have both experiences?

Resident Evil REmake and Metroid Zero Mission stick out in my mind as remakes that basically can be played over the originals as they're an inprovement in virtually every way while true to the original, except for thise curious, purists, or people who find charm in the much rougher original game for any reason.

Really depends upon the remake. There are some examples where the original and remake are so radically different both are worth exploring (lufia 2 vs curse of the sinistrals), some remakes completely obliterate the need for the original outside of curiosity (bionic commando rearmed), and finally some are so inferior they aren't worth playing (tmnt 4 reshelled).

Any remake to Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, both games have aged so poorly that they're original versions are nearly unplayable.

Also whoever tells you to not play the original Resident Evil in favor of the original is just wrong, remake is so different than its almost a new game (though it is a better one), original Resident Evil is definetly a game worth playing today, remake doesn't replace it.

I am planning on Getting Yakuza Zero, but the thing is that it will be my first Yakuza game. So I am not sure what to do going forward. If i like it plan to get 6. But i think ill be super lost when it comes to story :/

I always just go with my gut on this. Some games seem better in their original form, some don't. Things like "how bad have the controls aged?" is often part of my consideration, and sometimes "does the new version have any quality of life improvements?"

I played Kiwami without ever having played the original.
It was great. No reason to play the original if you have access to a better version in my opinion.
Only problem for me though, was I tried to play 2 afterwards, and it just feels vastly inferior to Kiwami making it difficult for me to play.

It depends on the game.

You should absolutely skip the first Yakuza game and just play the remake. It is super rough and much more of a novelty these days. The series didn't actually kick off until Yakuza 2 in my opinion.

a lot of times it comes down to preference. for example a lot of people nowadays probably couldn't make it 5 minutes into OG resident evil, some may find it more fulfilling than REmake

i think people who prefer All Stars Mario 1 are nuts but that's a thing so it's whatever floats your boat i guess

There's also the possibility of Easter eggs or bonus quests added that are best appreciated by those who have played prior entries.

That's what I'm afraid of. If you want to do a full playthrough of all entries in a series instead of gameplay (and graphics) improving they go down.

Think about playing REmake first and then having to play the PS1 2 and 3.

The neat thing about Dragon Quest is that there are remakes of 4-8 that were released chronologically so you can play the remakes since the next game is remade as well. 8 isn't as much a remake as a port so 9 doesn't feel weird playing next.
