The original Oblivion brought us microtransactions with it's horse armor, I wonder if the remake will add something stupid you have to pay for with real money, and people will mindlessly buy.

/s (sort of)

The leveling system in the original was retarded, probably the dumbest character progression I’ve ever seen in an RPG. Hope they completely rework it.

Also hopefully no bisexual lighting
I think a fix for the leveling system was one of the first mods I ever downloaded for a game. It was out and working within the first week of release on PC IIRC. So I never really experienced that gripe with the game because it was fixed for me immediately. Would have sucked to play it on console and be stuck with that ridiculous leveling system, though.

It's really weird that over the years I've seen dreams about new Elder Scrolls game and in those dreams it was always basically Oblivion 2.0. I don't know why but Oblivion remake just seems super odd. Although I'm bit hyped.

I liked Oblivion back in the day, but best part of it was that one Inside Painting quest, dark brotherhood questline and Shivering Isles. Rest of the game - story and quests - were very weak. So I hope they will remake that stuff too and actually write and design good quests this time around.

I'm certain they'll get rid of the level scaling. I'm hoping though is that they mostly preserve the amount of player stats to level. I remember enjoying all the different use to improve stats there were and being really disappointed in how little there were in Skyrim

Nothing annoyed me more in Oblivion than leveling up and having the entire game get harder because I had (unknowingly at the time) leveled up useless stats, meaning some random Minotaur on the path between two cities would just one shot my ass on the default difficulty slider setting.

Still adore Oblivion though.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yep, so it’s going to be interesting to see what changes will the Remake bring.

Like I couldn’t play Oblivion vanilla with the default leveling, level scaling and inventory handling.

Man, feels like I'm the exception. Through the decade(s), I've only played Oblivion in its vanilla state, with expansions etc. Never felt the need to try modding it.

What, you didn't enjoy jumping all the time to get your athletics level up?
Fuck man, still triggers my gamer OCD to this day any time I think about it.

I got it at launch for 360 and suffered. I double dipped on PC a couple years later, mainly so I could mod it and fix the leveling and other crappy mechanics.

Oblivion imo shouldn't be touched as left as is, however used to say that about Silent Hill 2, and the remake for that absolutely delivered, so meh we'll see.
I can’t be too down on this tbh. Oblivion is easily one of my all-time favorites and it’s the first Elder Scrolls game I played. It’s special. The memories I have from pre-release to finally starting this game and stepping out from the starter cave tops almost everything in my gaming life.

But a remaster or lifting it over to the current Creation Engine would’ve been enough for me. I’m worried of what they’ll change.

And with UE5 the modding community will have to reboot everything. And I seriously doubt that physics and item placements etc is going to be as good. And performance will likely be problematic unless you have a 4090+ and use DLSS and FG and console performance is going to be 30fps again at like 600p. And how are they going to recreate the creatures and people with high fidelity UE5 assets? It’s going to be uncanny valley deluxe ultra plus.

I’m looking forward to getting the “touch of rage” spell and triggering town-wide melees again. I got more entertainment out of that than playing the game properly.

Also dropping paintbrushes to make floating stairways so I could reach sniping spots that nobody else could reach (even though guards would magically spawn behind you regardless)

To be honest i love Oblivion so much that i would just rather have a Night Dive style remaster with you know a clean up, add controller support, etc.

This will probably not end up the Oblivion we know and love.

Chairman Yang

if he talks about books, you better damn well listen
So, a different game?
Hopefully. Initial big impact aside, Oblivion kind of sucked aside from a few particular questlines (like the Dark Brotherhood one). I certainly wouldn't be sad to lose nearly all vestiges of its actual gameplay systems, especially combat.

If they're improving it that much could they really not just come up with a new storyline and side quests to make it a new TES game taking place in the same or similar area? What was even so good about its story and progression to need a remake?

It better not have the same crappy Oblivion gate crap, Oblivion should be its own dimension or some shit, not just another samey crappy dungeon every time. But again if they go to the trouble to actually make this happen, why not do a new game?
Reducing the writing of Oblivion to the main story is somewhat stupid because it’s only such a small part of it. That game had some amazing quests. The main faction quest lines alone are worth it.

A studio known for remaking games is making a remake to a game. I don’t know why you are asking if they will make something else.
