Absolutely. Hardware is a money losing business unless you own one of the major platforms like apple, sony, nintendo, or valve.

The surface line completely blew up so it’s not like there is any indication that there is demand for a MS made prebuilt gaming PC. And there is a ton of competition in that space to begin with. MS and consumer hardware have historically not done well.

If he's saying they're going to push more games out to Nintendo and PlayStation platforms, it seems inevitable that will give players less reason to buy Xbox hardware in the future. Nintendo and PlayStation have no reason to allow Game Pass on their consoles, so this isn't really about "services", it's just the "content" part. This sounds like he's accepting they can't hope to grow Game Pass or Xbox hardware, so he's focusing more on becoming a third party publisher by pushing their games to the other platforms.

Is there some detail here that's leading people to think this will result in actual growth for Xbox hardware and/or Game Pass?

Very true. It will lead to even less Xbox consoles being sold. It will become a niche platform for the most dedicated Xbox gamer. They had every chance to succeed with all the money they spent on studios and instead let the gamepass effect cannibalize game sales and ruin any chance they had. Pushing people to not buy their console and play anywhere also was the most ridiculous idea ever. It’s as if they wanted to destroy the console base by doing so. The utter stupidity of Phil and Co. is beyond explanation. They have effectively destroyed the Xbox brand and yet are still collecting a paycheck. Insanity.

Why would anyone be considered delusional for thinking all games are coming? Phil Spencer directly said that no games are off the table. It amazes me that people like you still exist. Even when Starfield comes over to PS5 you'll move the goal post to something else.

If not all the big name exclusives were coming to PlayStation before, you can bet your ass they are now.

I’d expect we’re going to see a heavy push with the switch 2 as well. Much easier for their developers existing catalog to play nice on switch 2 without major tweaking.

If true this means Phil is just a yes-man. Likely both will retire in few years time. But this also indicates in numbers, Xbox hardware this gen has not really made any gains.

It is quite obvious that the target here is to make MS the biggest game publisher by revenue. They will probably still be releasing consoles, as they do with Surface tablets and laptops - just to push innovation and showcase their OS strengths. It might be that they will get some OEM partners to release their own Xboxes. I guess 2026 is just around the corner so we should start seeing more actual/real leaks in 2025.
