Hmm.

I got my 90 days and no "30 days" email yet.... Only had an account for about 30 minutes so far though.

Still, 30 days is good.

I've had mine for about two hours and no email.

Why the hell did they let the coupon work again anyway?

And why did I try it after reading that it didn't work anymore?

Who cares! I've got free rentals until the day after my birthday!

yea. it's weird. but here is to hoping!

i have no idea what to rent, though.

Same here... ended up with Golden Sun 2 and .hack Infection... and I explicitly wanted a "blow shit up" game :p. Any suggestions for a replacement (preferably for GBA)? :)

It works then it doesnt work what the hell. I'm sure there are other codes. I've heard of there 6 month sub codes for Bestbuy employees and other things but damn.

Yep, I also got an e-mail stating that the promotional code was illegally released and that my 90 day trial was being reduced to 30. In all honestly, Gamefly could've just given me nothing, so getting 3 times the free trial you would normally get off their site was pretty cool of them. Eh, it's free games for 30 days, so I say it's still a good deal.

I emailed them about the 90/30 days thing, here's their response:

The special promotion code was only intended for a pre-determined group of
people. Unfortunately, it was posted outside that group. We would still like
you to try the service and have set you on a 30 day trial, which is well above
our normal 10 day trial. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do
for you.

Thank you.

It was probably meant for higher-ups in Best Buy, people who probably would never use it.

Psi-Ops is listed as a short wait game now, was it when you signed up?

My games are listed as shipped today but they did that account check(didn't realize they were doing it, and I let my checking account go below $22) and it failed.

Maybe they just did the check to see if it is an active card, hopefully.

No it wasn't short wait when I requested it. My q list shows Prince of Persia and Psi-Ops as shipped on 6/22. I got PoP yesterday...no Psi-ops yet

Yup, they just make sure it's active. You might even be missing the money out of your account for a couple days, it depends on your bank though. But either way, they didn't charge you.

And nothing is odd when it deals with the post office. ;)

Tell me about it! Both my games shipped Tuesday, I got one Friday, the second one still hasnt shown up, so I wont get it until Monday. Six days to get a game? WTF? isnt Gamefly in LA? Im ten minutes from there! I wont be keeping the service at this rate.

Hah, glad I didn't bother with a ten day trial. I live on the other side of the country. I wouldn't even have gotten games before the trail ended.

The thing that I don't like is that the most games you can have out at once is 2. Whereas you can have up to 5 out at RedOctane.

Hm? RedOctane's FAQ says they allow 2 out at any time.

Gamefly also has a 3 at once service, but it is more expensive.

RedOctane:

G2 Program - 2 games out at any time - $18.95/month
G3 Program - 3 games out at any time - $23.95/month
G5 Program - 5 games out at any time - $39.95/month

Well I live in Louisiana and I got both my games 2 days later with no problem. Guess the shipping is just picky with how they treat certain customers. Also thanks for posting that promo Wario64. I was debating on whether I should try this out and a free month of this was a nice push. :D

Ah, that 3 games deal is a lot better than Gamefly's, only two dollars more than their standard 2 game service.

5 games is a bit too much, though.

Has anybody used both Gamefly and RedOctane? Is the service for one significantly better than the other?

Haven't received anything from GameFly yet. Then again they did say my address didn't exist, lol. Did that happen to anyone?

Archaix

Yep, happened to me too.

Do you have an apartment number/second line to your address? I think that's what got them all pissy about mine.

Nope, no second line for address, and no apt number. I dunno, oh well.

I was going to say to try both, but it seems RedOctane doesn't have a free trial period. I guess you could always try a 7day rental from them and see how that goes.

Got my copies of Hitman: Contracts (XBox) and Zelda: Four Swords Adventures in today, although it looked like my mail courier dropped them in a few mud puddles on the way here. Oh well, the discs were fine. Looks like I've got 30 free days of gaming to look forward to.

I've used RedOctane for over a year and I haven't had a problem (except they stopped sending the manuals, and started putting them in cheap sleeves like Gameflys). I went to my account page and clicked "Change your subscription plan" and the most it showed was 2 games. The only thing that makes Gamefly better is that they have GBA games. But RedOctane has Domestic and Import DC games. They both seem both reliable companys with each having their + and -.

i have used both redoctane and gamefly. here are some facts about the entire situation:

- i live in los angeles, not far from either of these places
- gamefly took 1 day to get to me
- redoctane took 2 days
- redoctane has decent selection, but not as good as gamefly. when metroid prime came out, i had that #1 on my list to rent. so, on that day i check the status and it said "in-stock" so i figure cool they'll send it out now. i check back later that night and they had sent me 2 OTHER games. i email them and say hey dude wtf this was #1 on my list. and they emailed me back and said "oh yeah we were still taking it out of the box, so we shipped what was on your list next" that pissed me off
- gamefly has always had plenty of copies of everything in that i wanted.
- gamefly sends instruction manuals, plus you have the option to buy it used and they will send you the box and stuff later

overall i have to say gamefly is the better of the two. hope that helps, enjoy

Just because it seems like this might draw some efficianados on the subject.

Anyone know if a similar system, in any way, exists in Canada? I'm going to be heading to University without transportation, and won't be able to rent games, and a system such as Gamefly sounds like a solid way in which to rent a few titles during a slow month or something. Anyone know?

There's www.dvd-rental.ca, who also have PS2 and Xbox games (no GC games, though). I don't know how reliable they are, though.

If there's only 6 levels, I'll probably finish it today and ship it tomorrow. At least that's the plan. It's crazy that I'm only spending 2 days on each game :p

FMT-Gamefly does ship manuals? I thought I read on their website that they don't send them out unless you decide to buy the game(Which seems better to me, I'd rather have a good condition manual if I buy it than a beat up torn booklet every time I rent).

If gamefly does have a better selection(Haven't really taken much time to look at RedOctane), I suppose I will stay with their service. An extra game for only 2 dollars more per month does sound good, but I can't really say I'd use those three games at once anyway.

There's is no manual with the games from Gamefly. Instead, they give you a link on their site showing the control button layout, etc.

One is a small office in Sunnyvale California. That doesnt carry a large amount of any one title.

The other is a big old warehouse ala Amazon. With game's up to your eye balls.

Can you guess which one is which?

Gamefly is a lot better service wise.

Just a reminder, 2 weeks remaining on the trial period. Cancel before the trial to avoid being charged

How does the trial cancellation work?

How do I go about returning the games from the trial? Do they have to be postmarked before the trial ends? Can I even cancel if I have games out?

Not too sure about the cancellation process. There's a link in the members area to cancel your account, but I think someone in this forum said that you actually have to call them up and give them a reason why you want to cancel. As for the cancellation, they give you seven days to return the games or else they'll charge you for the games. So theoretically, you have an extra 7 days to play them, minus a couple days to account for shipping. I wouldn't risk holding onto the game till the last, last day though

Wow, it seems like Gamefly is trying to fuck me over on purpose. Earlier this week, I sent my two games back for another two games (Ratchet & Clank 2 and Amplitude). I got one of the games today, Ratchet & Clank 2. The problem is, the game isn't R&C2. The envelope says it is but the disc inside is Knights of the Old Republic. Way to fuck that one up Gamefly

The other fuckup. Yesterday, they sent me an email saying Ampltiude is shipped and was on my way. Today, I get an email saying they received Ampltiude back. Uh, what? Now they're sending me my next game on the queue list, which is Mega Man Anniversary Collection. Great, now they're sending me a game that I don't want anymore...my fault on not checking the queue list, but hey, I didn't know they were gonna fuck up twice. Maybe I can bitch my way into getting another week free

Tried Gamefly before, for 3 free months that's too sweet to pass up.

Be warned though, it's an ABSOLUTE BITCH to cancel w/ the Customer Service. Don't be fooled, you cannot cancel thru website, it'll just reference their CS phone #.

That's odd. I was able to cancel through their web site.

my 30days just expired, well it expires in a few more days but i was able to get:

megaman anniversary collection
nightshade
ratchet and clank 2
dark could 2

for free.

thanks gamefly and hdloader

no way i would be able to get more games and return them in time before they started charging me. i would have actually kept the service if it didnt take 4 days to send something out and 4 days for them to revcieve it after i sent it back.

if they upgraded to two day mail or got an east coast operation i would do this.
