I really don't comprehend how Brad can presumably know how to play fighting games, with all the nonsensical obtuse button combinations, but not know how to play Smash Bros. It's so much more intuitive, is he like over thinking it?

He has played the games a handful of times and hasn't bothered to remember how it works in the years-long gaps between each one. I don't see how it's hard to understand.

Owning games I presume it is still stored on the system not account based?

Also King Kong is on tv.

Games are all tied to the system. If you want to transfer to a new system it's possible, but you can't just log in with your account on another system and play your games. TD;DR - It's still shitty.

Watched some of the Smash Bros Quick Look, still looks boring on WiiU. They should just take out the Pac-Man character and put him into his own game because that's clearly the best part of the game.

The Wiimote was one of the worst video games controllers ever made.

If we're discounting Kinect which simply doesn't function in the way it is supposed to more often than is acceptable, I'd say Wii had the worst controller ever. It didn't have enough buttons to accommodate even the simplest of games being made in the previous generation which resulted in even Nintendo replacing button presses with "shake your hand like you're having a fit." It also wasn't precise enough for anything but a fun novelty until a peripheral/controller revision was made.

I can't tell if Neogaf users vehemently hate or unconditionally love Nintendo. There's never a middle ground in these things.

Nintendo makes the best games in the world, but I have strongly disagreed with just about every hardware decision they've made in the last decade. Nintendo makes it real hard to love Nintendo.

Well Neogaf isn't a single-minded group so your initial premise is wrong.

Well since I said "neogaf users" I think I'm still on point, but I get what you're trying to say. It just seems like every day there's a hate or love Nintendo thread and they all get the same amount of posts.

What about those stupid plastic toy Amiibos, eh? I bought nine.

Waiting on them a bit. I love the Samus figure but so far that's the only one that's really caught my eye, and seeing her up close, well, I didn't really like the paint job.

It's about a 50/50 split, and both sides are very passionate about their views and when one side does creates a positive/negative thread the other has to one-up them in the opposite direction and it just escalates continually. There are a couple of rational people on both sides but they are in the minority.

The game still plays pretty differently from most fighting game. For instance, you can't button mash and expect to accomplish anything. And when you're playing with multiple players, items and stage hazards and stuff, things can get super chaotic.

Plus, I doubt Brad takes the game seriously, so he probably doesn't try very hard, either.

Patrick needs to do his piece of competitive Smash and possibly show the rest of GB that it's not THAT crazy and weird.

I'd love for Nintendo to compete with Sony/MS spec-wise with their next console, but I don't think they can wait until the end of this console cycle, the Wii U will be very long in the tooth by the time the PS4 and One are considered old.

I just want to see Nintendo make it through this cycle. War chest or not, the sad reality is that the other two companies are getting sales hand over fist compared to the WiiU.

I don't yet know how I feel about Nintendo being exclusively handheld.

They can definitely get through this cycle, they have quite a bit of money saved. My fear is that they're in a bit of a pickle. They can't wait 6+ years to release their next console along side the next Playstation or Xbox, their hardware doesn't have enough power to last that long. If they release a new, powerful console in a couple years they will regain 3rd party support for a while, but once the next round of consoles comes around they'll just end up as the weak 3rd wheel again. It feels like releasing the Wii U as early as they did has trapped them in a constant catch up game in regards to hardware.

Maybe they take a cycle off? Do releases on... PC?

They should actually do something with the 3DS since it's getting so few games. And by something I don't mean more ports of old games.

Not just critics. GOTY last year.

Should do another top down Zelda instead of porting that terrible Majora game.

You're both wrong. Deal with THAT truthbomb, nerds *sits back in chair, sunglasses materialise onto face*

Reading over and over again that ALBW, a game that completely fails at my favorite aspect of Zelda (dungeons and puzzles), is the best game since the Wind Waker (what) because you can do the terrible dungeons in any order was frustrating, especially since the upcoming game indicates that this is now the direction the series is going in. We've lost something unique so it can be like every other open world game ever. You people had those games. Now you have Zelda, too. Good for you, I guess.

Wind Waker's dungeons were the worst part of that game.

I know! People have fucked up priorities. But that's what the critics say. For example, Nintendo World Report recently named it the best Zelda game because they are staffed exclusively by people with misplaced GameCube nostalgia.

I actually like the Wind Waker up through the Helmaroc King fight and then again at the ending, but the middle of the game is excruciatingly bad, and the best dungeons is probably the first one.

you care way too much about what the "critics" say

like, the beautiful thing about having an opinion is that it is not actually invalidated by what a majority of people say, so you're not required to constantly rage against that majority all the time

but yes, Wind Waker has middling dungeons

Dungeons are never what sticks in my mind months or years after I finish a Zelda game, it's always the side-quests, overworld, and parts in-between dungeons that I love. That being said, I'm currently playing through Ocarina of Time 3D and some of the temples do not hold up.

I care because it has an impact on the series moving forward. Complaints about linearity in Zelda games and "the formula getting stale" has led to stuff like item rental in ALBW and the Wii U game being open world.

And I'm allowed to express an opinion about an opinion, just as you're allowed to express your opinion about my opinion about their opinions.

Could not agree more.

So what is your favorite Zelda?

I've found that I just don't enjoy 3D Zelda games. I've tried all of them besides the Wii one, and I get a dungeon or two in and just lose interest. I find this weird because I love the 2D Zelda games. Minish Cap and Oracle of Seasons/Ages are some of my favorite handheld games.
